In the interest of science, I went to Sony's Web site yesterday and priced a fully tricked out 3.06lb 13.1 inch Sony Vaio Z i7 with 512GB(!) ssd, 1920x1080 display, and a bunch of other goodies. Are you ready for the price? It will be $4,499.00! Yikes! Of course, it STILL hasn't shipped. Nevertheless, if I weren't a confirmed Mac nerd who insists on being able to run both OS X and Windows apps on the same computer, the new Vaio Z would be tempting.

What do you mean it still hasn't shipped? People all over the world has been receiving them and in the US you can go to any Sonystyle store and purchase one there.

I don't want to be dogmatic about this (there may be a hint in there) but the page to which I linked in my last post says that the top-of-the-line Sony Vaio Z i7 is "Backordered: Estimated ship date 3/31/2010." If the Sony Vaio Z is available in the US, I was unaware of it. Perhaps you could provide a link to a site that has them in stock and available for sale. A brief search of at Amazon convinced me that they don't have them yet. A Google search of "Sony Style USA" linked me to the site at which I found the page to which I linked in my last post. Nevertheless, I will be willing to be convinced if you can provide credible evidence to the contrary.

was that hard? fanboys trying to find any excuse why apple is so much better

Your link refers to the $1,899.99 i5 machine. The same site to which you linked, and I linked earlier, shows that the $4,599.99 machine about which I posted earlier is, indeed, backordered until 3/31/2010. The devil's in the details.

This detail is irrelevant, it does not change the fact that the Sony Vaio Zs have been shipping. You said:

Well, you should be aware of it now. No need to thank me.

And if you are going to insist that you only meant to ask whether that one particular model has shipped, then you can have the last word on that. I'm not interested in arguing over the interpretation of your statement. I'm only interested in making you and anyone else who ventures here aware that the Vaio Z has been shipping, and I've said all I need to say for that purpose.

Your attempt to change the subject was unconvincing. First read the Thread Starter's initial post that referred to the $4,500 i7 machine. Then reread what what I posted and your response to it, which also referred to the $4,500 i7 machine:

When the the subject of my post with which you took issue, the $4,499.99 Sony Vaio Z i7, ships we will have something to talk about. Until them it remains vaporware.

He has an i7 Z...

and considering it's an i7 you priced out to the max ... and custom made... How is it possible that it has shipped already?

What is it with you Mac haters, which makes you refuse to face the fact that the $4,500 Sony Vaio Z i7 is not yet available in theUnited States? The poster to whose post you linked is in Tokyo.

As these links show, the Sony Style site makes clear the $4,500 i7 is the only i7 Vaio z that Sony offers and it is not currently available.

Sony has terrible support and uses cheap plasticky parts including in the Vaio Z. Plus it uses Windows so comparing specs is really not relevant.

OSX trumps everything....better hardware means nothing. It's all a matter of "does it run OSX or not?". Windows 7 is light years beyond Vista, but it's not up to speed with OSX.

The above is a comment I heard from a friend of mine at lunch today.

Go ahead. Tear him apart.

I just want to watch.

Sigh.. Considering I have an Iphone.. Work on Macs at work (Recording Studio) and waiting to pull the trigger on my first personal mac for video work I do on the side. I really don't see how I'm a mac hater.

I just pointed out it has shipped. Since you were sticking to the specifics of your post I didn't see anything about it having to be in the USA? You just said it hasn't shipped when in fact it has. BTW I don't know how that really relates to hating macs too ? Again a little confusing.

You can customize a Vaio Z with the i7 620M option. http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...52921666065650&categoryId=8198552921644569398

These ship in 7 business days if you choose the Verizon WWAN card if you order today. People who ordered earlier have gotten them already.

What is with all of the Sony Fanboys on this forum? They are in the Arrandale thread too.

#1 Your Sony can't run OS X
#2 Until they ship with the i5 and i7, then we talk. So far they are even with Apple as far as shipping goes.

It's not about being Sony fanboys. I can't remember the last time I bought a Sony product. The fact is that they made an impressive computer.

sony vaio z with core i5 are already available at bestbuy and sony style stores. And there are already people who have the core i7 models like this person here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=6025917&postcount=1338
That's interesting. Based on your link, I gather that Sony had some i7s to ship early on but ran out, which has caused them to be back ordered. I wonder how long ago the folks who are receiving i7s now placed their orders. I'll be interested to see what people have to say about the i7s after they have had the opportunity to use them for awhile.

Just some info

I have posted some info regarding my purchase of a Vaio Z quite some time back. I can't believe we are still questioning the availability of this device. I am typing on a top of the line core i7 with quad SSD right now. I also know a couple of others who have the device in their hands and are happily enjoying it. It is way better then anything i have used including my unibody macbook pro which is a hard thing to say from myself but it is no desktop replacement.
I bought it for an ultraportable purpose with hopefully a 17inch macbook pro as my desktop replacement in the future.

Performance wise, well it kicks my current MBP's ass to the high heavens. It is that fast. This is somewhat of an achievement as my MBP 3.06GHz has been upgraded with a Patriot Torqx 128GB module and still cant be as prompt as the Vaio. From my experience we are looking at around 475MB/s transfers compared to around 200MB/s ish on my MBP and a 3Dmark06 score of 6120 compared to around 4100 on my current MBP in bootcamp.
I wont talk about the weight as you all know its featherlight at around 3 pounds.
Its built is not as sturdy as a unibody MBP but is more than sufficient.

So before we start bashing anything not made by apple, let us consider the facts that the Vaio Z is available and is better than the current top of the line MBP specifications wise. As for OSx, if it was a must have, you would not be reading this thread anyway :) just my two cents

The CTO with i7s are not backordered. If you bothered to check on the link I provided you earlier you will see that they ship in 7 business days, which is how long the CTOs take normally.

Lets stop pointlessly arguing about the obvious. I just don't understand why some people are trying to convince themselves that a product is not yet available, when you can clearly pick it up from any bestbuy or sonystyle brick and mortar store or just go online CTOed and have it delivered in a reasonable amount of time (5 to 7 business days) except for the signature edition which is a Limited Edition hence the scarcity.....
Anyway, let's stop the none sense and look at some interesting data I have found.
According to PCmag.com here is the "base" Z compared to other laptops currently on the market including the macbook pro and a couple that are suppose to be power laptops whatever that means..... LOL
