I see buzz on here, with the gazillion articles… but has anyone in real life actually mentioned AVP?

Hand on heart, be honest… they haven’t.
Believe me that they are aware of it but prefer to stay in ”wait and see” for now because Apple hasn’t advertised this thing heavily yet (and they can’t afford mass production of the materials esp the display). it is also good news for Apple to have the launch pretty much under control, and see the initial interests to expand (or falter) by itself.

Does MacRumors have a snail mail option that I'm not aware of? Surely you wrote your comment by hand and mailed it in and a MacRumors staff member typed it in for you? How much did that cost you? Or do you have a personal assistant to type your comments for you so you can avoid touching a gadget?
I get you irony, but I do not spend too much time on gadgets these days. Learned my lesson early enough. There's very little utility in VR apart from entertainment, but it has a huge profit potential for companies to sell the virtual crap to satisfy our hungry ego.

fact 1: every time Apple release a new product, someone always stating “Apple will fail”
fact 2: and a year later they always end up looking stupid
conclusion: clickbait may work to promote more views but we all know the contents are all already “dead on arrival”
Apple failed on many products in the past and was on the verge of bankruptcy. Got rescued by Microsoft.

Funnily enough, four decades later Microsoft still can’t make a decent smartphone that people actually wanted to use.

My main objection is that I don't see VR headsets as being some kind of worsening of the status quo.
I find the iPhone more concerning. Apple makes a ton of money from their 30% cut of in-app purchases from predatory games designed by mega-corps that hire psychologists and economists to help design systems to extract as much ongoing revenue as possible from players of "free to play" games. Players are rewarded for playing long hours, or can skip the long hours by paying ever increasing amounts of cash to buy in-game currency.

Perhaps because of VR's more niche nature, it has largely avoided games like that. Also, games tend to be more active, which places natural limitations on play times, but if people do play for longer, at least they are getting some aerobic exercise.

The intuitive 3D input system that VR enables also enables developers to create experiences where users can exercise their creativity.

One thing I've been disappointed with in all the Vision Pro content Apple has shown us is that almost everything is about passive consumption.

The iMac is DOA!

The iPod is DOA!

The iPhone is DOA!

The iPad is DOA!

Apple is Doomed! DOOM'ED I SAY!

I mean, sure, maybe it won't become the next big thing that everyone else will copy but, eh, I wouldn't place bets against it.

If you're on my side in this argument then don't, whatever you do, mention the Newton! You've been warned!

Nothing is better than a real life experience. Don't waste your time on gadgets. It leads to depression and burnout.
Easy on the sweeping generalization haha. I use a lot of gadgets to be productive so that I can earn money so that I can eat so that I can live so that I can have those real life experiences. Without gadgets I might experience real life homelessness. Or I guess we could all become Amish (but I hear even the Amish aren’t totally Amish).
Also I’d love to watch NBA games in real life all the time, believe me, but also believe me that’s not in the cards, so I use gadgets to watch them and it brings gives me a lot of joy. There is of course gadget addiction, or more accurately in much of today’s society content addiction, but one can also have balance. The key I think is seeing devices as tools—a means to a (hopefully greater) end, not an end in themselves, and using them only as much as they help you toward that end. In other words, no need to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Both of these points are true because VR is basically just Beat Saber right now. But I don't think they are inherently tied to VR.

For $3500, you can buy many years worth of non-predatory games on any platform, except smartphones/tablets (or at least they are much harder to find there). Just look at the success that a random $20 fixed-price game is having out of nowhere on Steam this week. We don't need to wear VR helmets to protect us from microtransactions.

Books and Kindles are passive consumption devices too. Nothing inherently wrong with that.

We know that Apple sold out of 160,000 - 180,000 VSPs in a few hours, making somewhere between $560-630 million dollars (assuming $3500 per set), which seems good to me. /shrug

Either way, this is a great thing for VR, that's what I'm here for. From the moment I put on my Oculus I was amazed and later thought, "...man, what if Apple did this?" I've been stoked about this hardware since the first rumor. I get it, if you aren't into VR it's difficult to convey the coolness of such a device and how the VSP, in technics alone, blows the competition way out of the water...let alone with the app and established user base and a dedicated media company....there's a lot going for it. Like...youve never seen a 3D movie until you've seen it in VR (and in the original Klingon ;) ).

Time will tell, but I think this thing will be a hit, particularly when the SE model or whatever comes out and everyone can stop hating on the price. As far the rest, some people are just going to hate on Apple no matter what they do.

Apple’s VR is dead on arrival.

This is a result of Apple’s poor relationship with app developers and competitors.

As we have now seen all the major companies Apple desperately needs are not only not developing for Vision Pro but are yanking their iPad versions from being compatible too.

I suspect their behaviour with the 27% third party app store fee this week has been the straw that broke the camels back.

Downvote me all you want but these are facts… they have no interest at all supporting Apple’s entry into another new category and continuing their market dominance and for once Apple needs them more than they need Apple.

Apple are screwed.
Vision Pro is dead on arrival.

Save this post and look at it again in two years time, then give me kudos
I agree that Apple hasn’t handled the App Store the best. They allowed freemium greed completely ruin it when legit gaming could have made it amazing and competitive with something like Steam (hence the reason Steam deck is so successful). Consider iPads are more powerful than Steam decks they could be used for really good gaming and probably through the use the same wrapper Apple uses for MacBooks to be able to run those games.

Nice troll post. It is so dead on arrival that you can't even order one right now because they are all sold out. :-D
Up until a few days ago, at local Apple Store, 256GB was unavailable, but 512GB/1TB was available Feb 3rd. Now, all 3 show March 4th availability.
