I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. The rumored dimensions for the foldable iPhone imply it will be an iPhone mini Pro. Using the outer screen will feel like an iPhone mini with the added option to use a larger screen and obviously a real all-day battery.
No, for two reasons:
  • It will be significantly heavier.
  • By my calculation from the leaked diagonals, the outer screen size would be around 3.18” x 4.49”, versus the 2.27” x 4.92” of the mini. In particular, that would be wider than even the Pro Max screen (but shorter than the mini).

The irony is: Not an insignificant number of those people likes the Vision Pro, and they act offended when others say that AVP is not a success and most people don’t care for it
I mean I guess if mini phone people are willing to pay $4k for the phone there maybe enough of margin for them to make them again.

So... I guess I will stay with my 13 mini. I do not need a backpack to carry my phone. Some phones are now close to iPad mini.

Mac mini is in an offer, while iPhone mini is not. Same for Vision Pro...

Sales:
  • iPhone 12 mini: ~5,000,000 units
  • iPhone 13 mini: ~3,600,000 units
  • iPad mini: ~4,000,000 units per year
  • Vision Pro: ~500,000 units (so far)
  • Mac mini (all generations): ~250,000 units per year
  • Mac Pro (all generations): ~750,000 units per year

But I need one. If it were a Pro Mini model and not a staggered delay release, I think the numbers would have been significantly more favorable.
I would buy 2 of them at launch even if they cost more than the bigger sizes 🤞
The foldable phone is supposed 5.5” when it’s closed. You’ll have your mini then.

I succumbed and downgraded from a 12 Mini to a 16 when my Mini's speakers started to fail. It's been over six months and I still hate the size of the 16, its infuriating camera bump, and the too-slick-to hold glass back. I could also easily do without the camera button and the action button.

I'm certain that Apple doesn't want to deal with (1) scaling the resolution to a slightly smaller screen and (2) Apple Intelligence draining the battery.

Apple, and to a smaller degree the technorati, need to accept that technology has surpassed the needs of even the more advanced average person. The "Pro" line and regular line should be nearly indistinguishable from each other. And beneath the regular line, there should be a normie line. Yeah, I guess I'm saying we have too much technology and they should slow down.

Big screens and big batteries are necessary for small group of people. High compute power and high performing cameras are necessary for a small group of people. I would argue that a large number of these people do not actually need them to be productive or enjoy their lives - but that's beside the point.

Aside from failing components, the iPhone 12 series is still a more than usable product for most people. And the Mini version of that still has a bigger screen than every regular size phone prior to the X. (and the X was only .4" larger).

I still have my original SE that I use for a music player every day. If I could, I would be using it as my daily driver. It's a gorgeous and practical device.

Yeah I came to a similar conclusion to you just now, after wanting to actually visualise it compared to my beloved mini (although my dimensions are a bit different). My logic is probably flawed because I can't quite wrap my head around how the hinge would fold. One page back if you're interested in my own guesswork!

In any case this will be a wide boy, I confess this makes me very sad.

Not at all surprised about this, but it does still kind of suck. I’ll hold on to my 13 minis as long as they work reasonably well, but really wish they would have kept something close to this size (even an SE would be preferable). At the end of the day, when I do have to upgrade, I”ll get whatever iPhone is the smallest at the time, but man do I love the mini’s size.

It was kind of funny, I googled for best small phones of 2025, and pc magazine’s top choice for a ‘small’ phone is the iPhone 16. Not my definition of small, but I do understand that is what the market is now.

Good riddance. This is super annoying for developers who need screen real estate and have been forced to compromise their UX just to support the only small screen device on the planet including Android.
The minis are using the same assets as the X/XS/11 Pro. They never had to do any adjustments for the mini size anyway.

If Samsung, which sells dozens of phone SKUs, is reduced to making the Flip as its small phone option, I don't have much hope for rigid Apple doing the same. The market is simply too limited. I had hope that the mini would have evolved into a new smaller SE at some point. When the 13 mini was discontinued so was that idea.

Like how they are developing the iPhone 17 Air that nobody wants? Clearly they have some headroom for niche products.

The difference is the iPhone mini has been proven to be a commercial failure. iPhone 12 and 13 mini were sold at $699 then $599.

If Apple keeps repeating the failure, there won’t be a chance for future hits.

All potentially cool stuff like health rings and AI assistants need hardware and software engineering resources.
