Thanks for all the replies. I am going to make my decision tomorrow. I am leaning towards exchanging my SG series 1 for the SB series 2.
I did just that. I had a SG S0 and got a SG S2 after Christmas but I decided to go up to the SB. You won't regret it. I picked up the link bracelet used

The SB SS with black link bracelet picture shown is exactly like mine. Beautiful!!

The SB SS is almost unscratchable :) I use mine at the office, scraping against the table or laptop constantly, absolutely no sign of wear (SB link bracelet)

Read about the coating: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond-like_carbon
I have been experiencing the situation noted above. I concur with the comment above.

Space Black is drop dead sexy!
SB SS is definitely drop dead sexy especially with the SB link bracelet.

Well.... I exchanged the SG series 1 for the SS SB series 2. Best Buy had to order it. Hopefully it won't take too long and hope I made the right decision!

Has anyone paired the SB with the black leather loop? I have the leather loop and I'm thinking of selling my S0 SS and trading up to a S2 SB.

I'd love to see a picture if anyone has this combo :)

[20 minutes later . . .]

This was the photograph that made me pull the trigger on trading up from a S0 SS to an S2 SB -- thank you!

I love the look of the SB Link bracelet but I can't really justify the cost and I do prefer the Leather Loop in terms of comfort and convenience.

Shipping is allegedly 7-10 days, but recently Apple has been overestimating shipping times, so you never know.

In the meantime, I really need to sell my S0 and SS Link bracelet!

I'm glad the pic pushed you over the edge. Just for reference, I ordered my SB from Apple on 12/30 and it came on 1/5. I did opt for expedited shipping so it shaved a couple of days off the slow boat from China. It looks like more SB have been popping up at stores.

Enjoy!

I just cancelled the order :(

Because I remembered that they sell them at John Lewis, and they come with a 2 year warranty when you buy from there. And they're available for delivery on Tuesday :)

I really need to get my existing watch sold!

If you want to sell it faster, I would suggest EBay. Macrumors sales are somewhat sluggish. Unless you already have it listed on eBay.

The strap's on eBay. Will put the watch (with Sports strap) on tomorrow.

Am naively hoping I'll come out even but I suspect there'll be a difference I'll have to make up.

To chime in with some relevant info -

I spent yesterday cutting firewood. That included dropping trees, chain sawing, as well as moving logs. I wore my SB 42mm the entire time. It got hit with sawdust, knocked against a variety of things, wet from snow, etc. probably the worst conditions one could reasonably put the Watch through.

Not a mark, not a scratch, and one long, hard workout registered. OP, hopefully this reassures you in your choice!

Love hearing these anecdotes. Was the main reason I returned my regular stainless steel model. While the regular stainless is beautiful, I really wanted something that would remain pristine under most circumstances.

Glad to hear that! I am looking forward to the arrival! Hopefully less than two weeks.

Same here. And the black stainless should hopefully retain that immaculate look with the diamond like carbon.

My SBSS is one year old. I'm really happy with its condition. The glass has some fine micro scratches that can only be seen at certain angles in direct sunlight.

I clean my watch every day with a damp microfiber cloth. Not sure if it's the daily wiping or just regular use, but the oleophobic coating has worn some. Next time around I'd probably avoid cleaning the glass so much.

If it's indeed the coating, I imagine it will eventually wear off completely and the scratches will be gone. Or you can remove the coating. You don't happen to wear it with the black milanese loop, do you?

Order status still has not moved to preparing. Anyone order a SB SS recently? Are they shipping on time as scheduled?
Thanks

It's been a couple of weeks now but I ordered on the 27th and received my SB early on the 5th with expedited shipping

Those are my exact thoughts with the Sort version. If feels like a cheap toy when compared to the stainless model. The black stainless is completely under rated and it's such a beautiful Watch. Good choice going back to the stainless model.

OP, the black stainless I own is extremely durable with the diamond like carbon coating. I have zero damage.

I like the space black one but I rather have the silver one for better matching with bands IMHO

Here's a pic of my Series 0 SSSB. I ordered it on launch and have worn it every day since it arrived.

I bought the SB Milanese Loop when it came available, and really love it. The Watch body has micro-abrasions on it, but you need to look really hard to see anything. The strap is in perfect condition; I think being flexible makes it even more resistant to knocks or scratches.

When I come to upgrade it will be another SSSB for me.

Still looks new since day one. Nice.

I only have the sports band and classic leather buckle. The scratches don't bother me as much as having to clean fingerprints more often. It's not that bad, but I miss the fingerprint resistance I had for the first few months.

The oleophobic coating certainly helps with fingerprints. Which eventually wears.

The stainless definitely pairs better and has far more band options that you can wear it with. The black stainless has options, but they are fairly limited.

After three months of being scratch free, I woke up from an overnight flight with a huge scratch on my Space Black link bracelet last week. It was most likely from the seat belt buckle, which I already thought would be a problem at the start of the flight. I could feed the scratch if I ran my fingernail past it, so it seemed permanent.

"Oh well," I thought, "Shame I scratched it so early, but that's the sort of wear and tear you expect from a watch."

Now a week later, I'm surprised to find the scratch is almost entirely gone and what's left is almost unnoticeable and disappear in a few days. I don't know what sort of magic this is, but I'm super impressed by it. :D This must be why this finish costs so much...

I own both the stainless and black stainless. You would surprised how many bands actually pair well with the the black stainless. Plenty of leather bands in a variety of colors and of course the link bands are a guarantee, along with sport band options. Once you own the Watch and mix and match, it's actually easier to pair than just trying to think about what would pair with the Watch without owning it.

i had wanted the SBSS but got the SS cause there was no stock...the SS has been for when i want to dress up and go out...finally got the SBSS and that will be the workout watch, the dress up or dress down watch....it just looks so sexy to me and i want to get the brown leather band to wear with it..my nice watches are collecting dust...

The same thing happened with my Space Grey MacBook Pro. It got a small scratch on the lid when something fell on it. I was traumatised for days. Then it just seemed to heal itself and disappear :)
