This goes with the territory in the social network arena.
I, for one, will not use Ping. Just like I won't use Facebook's "places" feature or whatever new thing there is to keep me constantly on the grid. I prefer to maintain as much privacy as the internet will allow. Besides, I'm sure no one really cares if I was at Starbucks five hours ago.
And while I don't begrudge anyone's choice to fully embrace social media and networking, I for one think there is a distinct irony in the fact that while we are presumably using to connect, and constantly feed the need to feel connected, it is (in my opinion) actually keeping us distant.
I look at the kids growing up with this as a ubiquitous part of their lives, and I realize how socially awkward some of them really are.
I'll hang out with my friends and hear about new music and what-not the old fashioned way, by actually talking about it. With our voices. In person.
Eh. Maybe I'm just getting old.
