For those that have one, I'm a little curious, since nothing really seems to tell me: is this actually a hard plastic case, or is it a bendable rubbery case (if perhaps a bit stiff)?

Does anyone who has one have any thoughts on how well it might work in terms of impact and shock absorption?

It's a "stiff rubbery" case. In terms of shock absorption, it's probably among the best out to date. But honestly, any case from reputable brands (Speck, Incase, Marware, etc...) I've seen does sufficiently good in this regard.

I didn't buy one but checked it out at Target and said meh. I think your review was fair.

I did the same. I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. Oh well. The search continues. I really just want a feather that works with my smart cover.

Hey, all. PixelSkin HD Wrap review just went up on my site. Hope you "enjoy" the review. :p

Thanks for a really great, detailed review. It answered all the questions I had for this cover, and it confirms my first choice for a cover , which I will stick with, (my yoobao.:) with the zagg keyboard when I travel)

The weight would be a huge issue for me, not to mention the aesthetics.oh.....and as for that micro-sticky......strip...

I can attest to the heaviness of this case. Tried one out yesterday and was immediately turned off. Ugh. Back to the smart cover for now...

Can't wait to get my Yoobao. Using the Pixelskin for now and it's such a piece of junk. Sad as the Pixelskin for the iPhone 4 is my favorite case.

So it sounds like my perfect case would be this with just a few minor modifications:

1. Flat, instead of pseudo-pixel pattern
2. Magnets for sticking closed, not sticky stuff (added bonus: auto-wake/auto-lock)
3. A little lighter, preferably without compromising shock absorption

and out of left field: 4. some way to prop it up in portrait mode, since that's how I'd prefer to read books

I figure #4 isn't actually realistic (since I really like the triangle-prop style this has). Any idea if things to fix any of those three are coming down the pipe, or are available from other cases?

I like this case...

but I LOVE MY SMART COVER

What to do what to do?

I know there are less expensive options but hey, the case was sitting there doing nothing and I had an Exacto knife that hasn't been used in ages.

Funny thing, Speck would probably charge the same price for a Smart Cover compatible case.

This site is using your hacked version picks to sell this case (as their review of it). It's funny they don't even notice it isn't the original case.

Omg.....that is just toooooooo funny, or maybe not so much for the people that order the case because of the "gleeful"review, and are shocked and confused when their case and those pictures don't match up.

It's such a pity about the weight of the front cover. I really loved the design of the case from the pictures on Speck's site, but for me, the whole beauty of the iPad's portality would be detracted from. And as for holding it while reading, unless it's resting on your lap.......I cannot even imagine.

If they correct this weight issue, I think I might still go for it, as an alternate case when I travel, because I do love the look of it, how thin the bezel is, providing protection all the way around the iPad. Cases with just the corner clips make me very nervous in case of accidents, when the sides of the iPad are left exposed. Then there are others, that have this huge bezel, which covers right up to the screen and look just plain ugly.
Design-wise, the aesthetics of the Speck case are gorgeous, they just need to go light as air with their materials.

If Speck made the same case minus the cover it would sell like crazy IMHO. They could make two versions, one that is Smart Cover compatible and one that is not.

Here's one with the cover hacked off NON-Compatible with Smart Cover. I smooth out the cut edge with 160 grit sandpaper. It feels quite nice without the cover flapping around. Idon't understand why Speck haven't thought of this.

Picked up a Smart Cover over the weekend, but I don't like how the back is exposed. I will be picking this case up this evening since Target is across the street from where I'm headed to make a return and thankfully they have them in stock. Best Buy is down the street so I can return the Smart Cover.

I had the Speck cover and got a leather smart cover on ebay for $40 and a $10 clear back case for it and I don't miss the speck cover one bit. I love the smart cover so much more. The speck case was just so heavy and not very flattering to the slim look of the iPad. I'm glad I made the switch to the smart cover.

I posted my quick review of this case here:

http://blog.gleemobile.com/2011/04/product-review-specks-pixelskin-hd-case-for-ipad-2/

The case does not have magnets, but I seriously like the micro suction technology. It makes the case feel more secure. I wish it would wake/sleep the device when opened and closed - but seriously - all you have to do is press the home button once you open the front flap. If we can't do that - we should consider ourselves lazy! LOL!

The case weighs in at 1 lb. You can findthis case for an awesome price if you click through one of the links on the blog and enter the promo code when checkout out. It's the cheapest I've found on the internet. I just talked to a customer service rep from the company and she indicated that they still had 54 left in stock but they were selling fast... Just thought I would share!

I found that with the suction, if I ever had the case open and the front folded around the back and I put it down the suction strip never failed to pick up dust or lint or whatever. Could very early scratch the screen if you don't wipe it before closing the case.

Just an observation

Picked up my case this evening and ilove it. The Pixelskin HD for my iPhone 4 is in the mail now. Great combo!

I made an account to post on my speck case. I got mine in raspberry and while I like the color and the protection, the micro suction strip doesn't stick any more. Mine was never very sticky but I've had it less than a week and the flap inevitably will rise from the screen now. This means of keeping the flap closed just doesn't seem durable because even if you get a stickier strip than mine, it will lose the tackiness over time and will become ineffective. So if the flap staying shut is important to you, you might want to reconsider. It might not be a big deal to some, but it kind of sucks seeing as how pricy it is.

I would contact Speck Customer Service and make them aware of this as well and request a new case. Their CS is pretty good.

Picked one up yesterday at Target and like it so far. It is a bit heavy but the form factor is there and I like the stand feature (using it now to type this). The micro suction works well and is nice and strong - and isn't leaving marks on my BSE screen protector.

Took a bit to get the last corner on, and didn't mess the BSE up at all. If the FitFolio comes in black I might exchange it but so far I like the case and the protection and utility it provides.
took mine back today at lunch... couldn't deal with the weight, probably because of the posts I read here ;) back to the Targus TPU for now.

I noticed mine not sticking to the screen yesterday and needless to say that this case will be going back. Either today or this weekend sometime. Nice case, nice concept, poor quality control. I'll just rock with a sleeve I ordered via eBay last night for $9.

Yeah, I just can't see how the strip will hold up over a longer period of time. Unfortunately I had my eye set on this case for awhile and I actually really like it other wise so I am just going to keep it. The biggest thing for me is the stand option and a nice bonus is the back protection. Considering I would end up paying more for the smart cover than I paid for this, it is worth it to me to keep it but it is really understandable why people don't like this case.

Ellellelle, can you tell me if the raspberry color is a darker, deep pink or is it a lighter pink? Different pictures on the web show it as light pink, deep pink, etc. Thanks for any help on this.

I picked this up over the weekend, and have mixed feelings about it.

I wanted something similar to the Gen 1 Apple case and until now had a Griffin folio case for the iPad 2, and while it was close, the workmanship & fit left much to be desired.

I was quite intrigued to see this case at Target and decided to give it a shot.

My first disappointment was finding out even released this late in the game, it did not have magnets in it. I am leery of the strip that grips the glass, but so far it grips quite well. Since I come from an older ipad with the Apple case, as long as it doesn't flop around I won't are too much.

On the plus side, this case fits very well - and while it adds heft, I was never bothered much by the gen 1 iPad's bulk, so the weight doesn't bother me much. The cover flap is thicker and probably responsible for a lot of the weight, but offers very good protection. I do say that I am very pleased by how well it fits the iPad 2 and protects the back and sides. I have no concern whatsoever of the iPad popping out of the case.

I'd imagine if this case had a cover that had the flexibility & function of a smartcover, it would be the perfect case for me.

I'm going to return mine today actually. I bought the Speck Smartshell instead and also going with a smart cover. Much thinner and lighter!

That's a translucent hard shell, isn't it?

For those who modded their pixelskin by cutting it, how do the corners work out on the left side? Do they get loose?
