I bought one of these at the target willowbrook outside Chicago....great case....the smart cover is now in the closet.

Just picked up that HD wrap today at Target. Everything is great about the case, great fit, doesn't cover up the bezel, and doesn't add too much extra thickness to the iPad, but 1 thing annoyed me enough to make me return the case... the cover! Why is the cover so dang heavy???

I like this case...

but I LOVE MY SMART COVER

What to do what to do?

I know there are less expensive options but hey, the case was sitting there doing nothing and I had an Exacto knife that hasn't been used in ages.

Funny thing, Speck would probably charge the same price for a Smart Cover compatible case.

I just love what you did! That is how the entire case should have been designed in the first place!

Do you find it's lighter in weight now?

Do you have something else underneath the Speck? It looks like where the Smart Cover attaches, there is a weird checkerboard pattern that doesn't look like it's part of the Speck case.

Yes, that cover was a boat anchor. Because of the weight and the fact that you can't remove it.

The case itself is excellent but that cover just killed it for me.

I bought and returned the same day. Case adds too much weight. It also screwed up the edges of my BSE screen protector

That looks good! A combination of both cases good points!
How well does it hold the ipad when you fold the smart cover to a stand?

alternative to Pixelshkin HD?

ya..same issue here...it's just too darn heavy...not the most stable in the stand positions either...gonna have to take it back...what are the best options that have similar features to this? I saw really good reviews of the Switcheasy Canvas..is it as heavy as this thing?...i guess i'm looking for all the features of Pixelskin, minus the weight...sleep/awake feature would be nice, as would stability of the stand positions when on your lap or on a bed or something

thanks!

Heavier than this one, yet there are no complaints about weight in that thread. I wonder if it's the weight distribution? All the weight of the Pixelskin seems to be in the cover which makes it a little unwieldy I suppose.

Do you by any chance have a postage scale or any other scale at home that you can use to weigh it? I like this case, but I'd really like to know how much it weighs since the iPad2 is so light
.

I weighed it on a triple-beam scale and it came in as 300 grams, or 10.5 ounces, adding significant weight to the 'pad, but then I read that the Smart Cover weighs 4.8 oz., so just covering the back also would double that, at least, so it seems in line, technically, but still feels heavy to me. It does, however, feel very secure.

The cover is pretty funky to work with, especially the tab that slips in to keep it folded. But I only just got it, and maybe things'll work out. I have my doubts, though.

I attached a strip from a business card style magnet to the inside of the cover with double-stick tape, and it functions to some degree. The trouble is that it's a very weak magnet, so any movement of the cover, even just normal handling while its closed, triggers the on/off switch. A "super" magnet attached to the outside of the cover does the trick, and I expect that a strip of decent magnetic tape or somesuch will work fine to convert this to "smart".

Completely agree. I've been using this for the whole weekend, and depending on what case options come out in the next few weeks, I think I might return this because of the weight of the cover.

brian, this is russr1123 from the VZWCC...how much does this thing weigh in grams or ounces?

It's 9 oz = 255 grams, which is more than 40% of the weight of the iPad 2. I'm honestly baffled why they couldn't make it lighter, and even more so about the fact some people said "it's light" or "I don't care if it's heavy". Just baffled since it completely beats the purpose of buying an Apple mobile product.

Very good protection though. The lack of magnets and the weight were the dealbreakers so I returned it after trying it for 20 minutes. SwitchEasy's Canvas (screen protector included and detachable stand) and this would be better bets:

I just got this case from a online store and I love it. Yes, it is a little heavier but it just makes me feel so much better knowing my new iPad 2 is protected by a solid case! I've always loved specked products for my iDevices - ever since I bought a Speck case for my first iPhone.

Here is a little tip: My friend somehow found this promo code on a blog or something and it is good for 10% off your entire order and free shipping on orders over $25 at GleeMobile.com. This is where we both ordered our cases from. Enter "gleefriends" into the discount code area in during the checkout process and you will get this case shipped to for $40 and some change. A pretty good size savings on a pricey case.

Oh and I don't know if you guys have come up with a solid answer yet - but the exact weight of the case is .625 lbs...

Just buy it at Target for $39.99 + tax and have it in your hand today.

For those that have one, I'm a little curious, since nothing really seems to tell me: is this actually a hard plastic case, or is it a bendable rubbery case (if perhaps a bit stiff)?

Does anyone who has one have any thoughts on how well it might work in terms of impact and shock absorption?
