Only a slight speed increase between opening those apps.

The real difference will be when devs write apps specifically for the iPhone 4S to make use of the better hardware.

Except this in the vast majority of cases wont happen as devs wont want to cut out everyone who doesn't have a 4s/ipad 2, think of all the iphone 4, 3gs and ipod touch users you would lose making a game for the 4s, the same thing happened with the 3gs and ipad 2, very few apps took advantage of the hardware.

I can see all the 3G(s) iPhone users being happy with this upgrade but the difference between the 4 and 4S is minimal. I don't see enough of a speed difference in everyday use that would make it seem like the 4S is a major upgrade.

Wait for the 3rd party apps to be optimized for the A5. If you look at Safari on the 4 and 4S Safari is easily 2X as quick on the 4S. ;)

Not worth £499.99 just for a 2x speed difference in safari, if your a heavy gamer or had a 3gs this is worthwhile. Any who upgraded just to have the latest is a bad move in my opinion.
I will pick up the next gen and skip the 4s. Cant be throwing money away, at the end of the day my 4 is fine and i at peace with myself. Seems like some upgraded just for their ego, so sad

Very true. Only the big time devs will probably make iPhone 4S exclusive apps for the time being I reckon, and they'll be in the minority.

Personally I am still very happy with my iPhone 4 and can't justify spending all that money for a slight speed increase and Siri. I can see 3GS users being happy with this type of upgrade however. Seeing this video has actually made me happier keeping my iPhone 4 haha.

What are you smoking? How about:

- Superior, faster camera.
- Siri.
- Better Antenna.

The only time you'll see the iPhone 4S trounce the iPhone 4 will be when A5 specific apps are launched. Infinity Blade 2 will be an interesting side-by-side.

In UI navigation, it's not quick enough or beneficial enough to iPhone 4 users.

In the UK, I've never had an issue on O2 with "Antennagate", and that's me gripping the phone like a gorilla on heat, and at most I lose one bar throughout the parts of Glasgow I go to.

Siri ... sorry, the amount of joke sites that have been set up and gags that people have tried on it, prove it's a mere gimmick right now. Siri is the iPhone 4S version of FaceTime.

I am reluctant to spend £499 on a 16GB SIM free 4S, when my iPhone 4 is still flying. I'm a big iOS gamer, so perhaps the A5 will sell the 4S to me.

And the camera on the iPhone 4 loads quicker on iOS 5 from the lock screen that it ever did on iOS 4. iOS 5 has optimised the iPhone 4 brilliantly. I'm truly struggling to justify the cost.

Hello,

Just to clarify a few points.
I do not claim this to be in any way a scientific test. It was made quickly for a friend who wanted to see them side by side. I did try to hit the screens at the same time, most are pretty accurate.

The iPhone 4 shown is a 3 month old Apple referb. Both phones had just been installed with iOS5 (reformat) and rebooted.

The clips are edited to remove the footage of me closing the apps. Each launch was made with no other apps running.

Both phones are connected to the same wireless network.

Although at one point, the iPhone 4 does appear to have a single (perhaps two) bars of WiFi compared to a full signal on the 4S.

Well said I feel the same +1.

im also skiping 4s and going to 5 when it sout in a year or so.
im just swapping my black iphone 4 to a white from a colleague of mine, so it looks just little different.
also with ios5 it will give me something to play with tillnxt jully !!! ;)

How about this baby JB and running fakeclockup?? The "manufactured delay" due to animation is huge!!

Yes, huge. I wish short of a JB + FakeClockup there was a Settings switch to turn them off.

Nothing too dramatic. But I guess the real speed difference is in the graphics. They did say graphics would be 7x better (or faster).

I'm actually quite surprised, but my 3GS is chugging along fine with iOS 5. I don't see a speed based need to upgrade to a 4, so I wouldn't see a need for anyone with a 4 to upgrade to a 4S solely for the reason of faster speed.

It won't change your experience from a 4, but it is a noticeable improvement.

That's debatable. I doubt I would notice any difference at all unless I was doing a side-by-side comparison.

The speed difference going from the 3G to the 3GS was pretty dramatic. This, not so much. If I had decided to trade in my iPhone 4 for a 4S instead of a Galaxy S2, I would be pretty disappointed. ;)

So if the performance is not noticeably better, then all you are really getting is a better camera and Siri.
Yes I know they are selling like hotcakes and I'm not saying it's a piece of junk, but no matter how you spin it, the 4S is a major disappointment for those of us who waited 16 months to see what Apple was coming up with next while several excellent Android phones came to market.

First, that music makes me want to poke out my eardrums to stop the insanity. Why do youtube posters think that adding a soundtrack improves any video?

Second, the ONE biggest time consuming task is launching the CAMERA, yet they didn't demo that.

Finally, not too scientific. Both phones are on the same wi-fi network, so any demo of apps that accessed the web are subject to interactions and queueing on the network.

Not saying the 4S isn't faster, just that the demo is not impressive.

I purchased the 4 on launch day last year, and was actually already eligible for another subsidy because my bill was over $100 for the last year. But I still skipped the 4S. AT&T is going to start going to 20 month upgrades once people use up their current one, so I didn't want to use it on the 4S, and then be stuck having to pay a fairly high early upgrade fee for the 5 next year.

I think I would have preferred to see the test with both iPhones in their factory default state which the iPhones in this video were clearly not. I saw Skype on one of the home screens as well as folders that are not like that by default. No extra apps, nothing running in the background. Having apps running in the background, (even if they aren't really running) take up system memory. In fact I just did a test with my iPhone 4. I had a bunch of stuff in the multitasking bar that I had been running, when I checked the available system memory using the System Info app in AppBox Pro it said I only had 9.18MB free. After I killed the apps in the multi-tasking bar it said I had 264MB free. That could affect performance.

I find it funny that apps load nearly twice as fast on the 4S and people here are saying "meh". Yes, there is room for improvement. But not much. If the next model is twice as fast as the 4S at loading apps, it's going to be damn near as fast as you can get. I wish apps on my Core i5 Windows 7 desktop loaded that fast.
