I have a tethered 3.1.2 jailbreak, i do not want to upgrade, i just want the ability to restart my phone without having to carry a computer with me!!

Just so I’m 100% clear on this… because I already use blackra1n, i cannot use Spirit without a fresh 3.1.2 installation (which i cant get because 3.1.2 is no longer signed)
I would therefor have to have a fresh 3.1.3 installation. (then save my blob!!!!!)

Spirit will not work on an already jailbroken device correct?

yeah, thought it was the network?

See I'm not entirely convinced on that... My friend has an iPhone 3GS on O2 placed right next to mine. Now although a number of factors come into play regarding signal strength and you can't expect both devices to have the exact same strength, you'd expect similar results.

Sure enough, full 3G signal but after a few moments browsing the web mine drops down to 1 bar with GPRS whilst his is still happily surfing on 3G. I've just installed the Push fix from Cydia and while I've seen an improvement, something's not right. I'm going to update to stock 3.1.3 and hopefully this will resolve the issue.

Annoying though, right?

It will work on a currently jailbroken device but that device would have to be on 3.1.3 so pretty pointless. To get an untethered jailbreak on the new bootrom you'll need to hit update in iTunes for a stock 3.1.3 then run sprint. Bare in mind your baseband wont be preserved but you can always go back to 3.1.2 but downloading the firmware from Felixburns and modifying your iTunes server activation.

Just on that quote - you can downgrade a 3GS to 3.1.2 without the shsh? I dont think so!

I dunno whether to do it or not...I've got my 3GS with no 3.1.2 shsh blobs just the way I like it, working perfectly with a Redsn0w jailbreak... I'm not sure whether to risk going to 3.1.3.... Might just wait til something forces me to :p

Just seems wrong to deliberately upgrade to 3.1.3 after so long avoiding it!

I could really go for some UNtethered action though :)

Just downloaded the Spirit file, but Sophos Antivirus is saying Spirit.exe "has been identified as suspicious file of type Sus/Dropper-A?"

I can't believe I am see users on here using subscription, pay based anti-virus:eek: Why pay for something that can be free and does not take over your computer, imbed and intermesh crap into your OS when you can use free without fear such as AVG, or in my case Microsoft Security Essentials that works perfect, is not heavy on the system and will not cause lag in any open program while scanning. It is FREE and stays current at all times...It is also Virus and Malware protection. Never had a virus, trojan or invasion of any sort while using it and you all are still paying for this stuff???? Yet users scream for FREE stuff, jailbreak and all other restriction free...don't get it:confused::confused::confused:

So, going to jailbreak for the first time, iPhone 3G 3.1.2.

Quick questions I feel I should double check after combing through the forum:

1: So SHSH backup doesn't apply to the 3G iPhone? No prep along those lines besides a sync and backup?

2: Probably no reason to update to 3.1.3?

3: Do I need a clean restore before using Spirit, or leave the iPhone as is (This iPhone has been jailbroken, or any other kind of hack)

I'm at 3.1.3 FW with 3GS, and Spirit was a matter of about a minute total time. Went back to using Cydia v. the Rock, but that's ok. Like being JB again, don't really need the unlock. Seems fewer options with Cydia v. Rock. No crashes yet...

hmm, just downloaded and file seems to be clean. Doesnt seem to be able to jailbreak my iphone 3gs on 3.1.3. Error keeps popping up. Maybe its not legit or i'm being stupid :p

Sent from my iPhone

check your bootram...06.02 = no dice because it cant be downgraded.

Please excuse my ignorance, but to what do the expressions "tethered" and "untenthered" refer in this context? I see lots of comments about being untethered, and I don't have a clue what that means.

Okay, so im running iPhone OS 3.1.3 on a never jailbroken iPhone 3GS, modem firmware 5.12.01, with this i can jailbreak it right?

After no luck in downloading mywi (without rock) yesterday, I got a message today saying that purchases have been disabled by cydia on the current update and that a fix would be available by 5/9. So I'm guessing that mywi without rock (at least for me) won't be available until Sunday....

Sorry for having to ask this, but I didn't want to mess my 3GS phone up, and thought I'd check first.

Currently running 3.1.2 JB on my 3GS with firmware 05.11.07

Can I upgrade this to 3.1.3 and JB'd ?

I wouldn't normally bother with such a minor upgrade as 3.1.2 is working fine, it's just that there appear to be more and more apps that have 3.1.3 as a minimum requirement these days, and I can't run 7 of my apps because of this.

Thanks

So I'm on Firmware 3.1.3 and Modem Firmware (or is it baseband?) 04.26.08. I am trying to figure out if I should upgrade to the stock 3.1.3 Firmware with the updated Modem Firmware (or is it baseband?) and then jailbreak using Spirit. Is there any real benefit to updating the baseband or should I just stay at 04.26.08?

Just jailbroke my 3.13 3G. Just as easy as blacksn0w. Cydia's not very responsive, but I imagine the servers are still getting hammered. Think I'll wait 'till late tonight to grtab a bunch of appz. So far it seems to work fine.
