I jail broke my iphone 32gb 3gs with 3.1.2, I know it says only works with 3.1.3. But it worked and I have restarted several times with no errors. So quite chuffed to be able to personalise my iphone again.

I am using 3.1.2 and jailbroke awhile back using blackra1n.

I have noticed that Rock & Cydia crashes a lot and my battery life is horrible.

So, my questions/options are
1. should I update my phone to the newest Apple software, then use Spirit to jailbreak
2. do not upgrade to anything and use Spirit not blackra1n
3. or leave it alone all together?

Thanks!

Do you need a carrier unlock? If not, may as well upgrade to 3.1.3 and use Spirit. blackra1n has caused problems for people in the past. You'll have to do a fresh restore for this to work, though.

Also, if you can get away with it, try using just Cydia for awhile; the Rock extensions have also been known to cause instability.

I am on 3.1.2, but my iphone is officially unlocked but I am happy with 3.1.2 so am staying there. I jail broke it and it works fine.

Actually it says this
Any iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch on firmware 3.1.2, 3.1.3, or 3.2.

So that's why it worked. :)

Well that was interesting. Last night I jailbroke my iPhone 3GS with Spirit. On the first try it locked up on the splash screen (yes, iTunes was closed). When I tried to restart the phone it stopped on the Apple logo. Had to do a restore.

On the second try everything worked but this time when I tried to load MyWi, the phone locked up again. Restored again.

The third time I guess was the charm. Everything came up correctly but MyWi kept crashing. It finally stablized and seems to work fine now.

When I restored my content backup from iTunes (apps, music, movies) everything seemed to fall into place with no issues thus far. My camera roll is even still there.

Will probably go back to jail in a few days. Just wanted to fool around with Spirit and MyWi. I honestly don't feel safe with the iPhone like this. I use my iPhone for my daily routine and don't want to worry about the phone suddenly crapping out.

Once you get the actual thing jailbroken it should be pretty stable. Generally a restore and then jailbreak is the best way to do it to be safe.

The photo deletion bug was fixed pretty quickly according to the website.

But yea, jailbroken phones aren't necessarily prone to crashing or anything. My iPhone 3G has been jailbroken since I bought it and I never had any issues relating to it. The only crashes I had were because I was doing development and ended up breaking things, but they were my bugs. :)

Thanks. I will see how things go over the next few days. Might change my mind about going back to jail. Who knows. :)

I will say that MyWi really sucks the battery down quickly. Seems to work well though.

But thanks for answering, I will give it a shot! Thanks!:)

error c0000005 for 3G on 3.1.3

windows 7 64bit for extra info

seems like this wasnt ready to be released so far all ive heard is 3g and 3gs failing on 3.1.3

Its a windows thing. Windows just sux. Unix rules.

Windows 7, 8, 9 ....... Wonder when it will ever work !!!

Double post just to flame Windows... Classy. I don't believe the developer was developing on a Windows 7 x64 bit machine. It has nothing to do with the OS quality that it didn't work. It's a matter of supporting a vast number of systems and OS versions. It's actually really good that Win7 was actually able to run it. I think that says a lot about the compatibility features.

Btw... Typing this from my Ubuntu desktop right now.

Lets just not jump to conclusions. Windows is not that bad.

So I JB my 3GS today using spirit and when I opened Cydia for the first time I did not get the "Make my life easier, thanks" button because of the insane traffic....

soooo will this come back or no since i've been using Cydia. I'm just trying to make sure my SHSH blob will be uploaded to the servers just in case...

Use umbrella before Apple quits signing 3.1.3

ok. Just curios. I have a 3gs on 3.1.2 with an untethered JB by blackra1n. Can i just run spirit to upgrade the firmware. I dont care about unlocks or anything like that. I just dont want to have to go back through and install all my apps and repos back into the phone. I dont really need the new software, i am just worried some of my apps are gonna need 3.1.3 to run. Apple did that to me on the last update. Try to upgrade and get the error "you must be on 3.1.2 to run this app". It drove me nuts.

Used Spirit to Jailbreak my latest refurb'd 3GS from apple. super easy... did it about 3 days ago

i hadnt read anything before; so i just ran it from windows 7, while iTunes was open, no problems what so ever...

check out "firmware 3.1.3 app" in cydia. It tricks your phone into being able to run apps that require 3.1.3 while on 3.1.2

iPhone 3GS 3.1.3 using a Windows 64 bit vista JB in 2 seconds.

I love how fast it was no problems at all.

***EDIT***
stuck with cydia!! blech

***EDIT 2***
