What do you mean it doesn't work? Others report it working, it just opens up a small folder like on the iphone instead of a big iPad version.

But the CategoriesSB plugin doesn't and thats what makes the app most useful. Also icons did not work for me.

Alright dude, fair enough, I've torrented enough music myself as well. But it seems like, esp around here, many people are devs and don't like the talk about pirating apps. Seems it can even get you banned just by talking about it.

So you openly admit you steal music and apps and want people to be cool with that. Unbelievable. I am not a dev, but I appreciate the work they do. Without them, we have pretty screens that don't do all that much. And it's not like anyone is blatantly ripping anyone off, charging hundreds of dollars.

Lots of people come down on jailbreaking as mainly being about piracy. I think for most people, it's all about functionality. I've spend many $$ in Cydia store. But people like you build into the negative image of jailbreakers as thieves.

In summary, shame on you and all your buddies who want something for nothing. Grow up. Be an adult. Pay for stuff. Stop knocking off convenience stores to pay the rent. And so forth.

Amazing how often threads get thrown off-topic on this site...about 75% of threads turn semi-flamy within a handful of posts..

Please, keep it on-topic...

I don't think this is off topic at all. The thread is about how to jailbreak. If people are doing this to steal, then shame on them... and on all of us by association.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

That was a long time for here haha

Has anyone tried this on a PPC mac yet? I won't have access to an intel Mac until this evening...

Yes, I did it on a PPC G5 and it worked. Make sure iTunes isn't running when you jailbreak.

wgary is 100% right.

Would love for the mods to do something about it too.

Just jailbroke 64gb wifi iPad. No problems using osx 10.6.3 :). I have not installed anything yet. I'm too worried, lol :)

Just jailbroke a 32GB wifi iPad. I first tried on an XP machine but no dice as Spirit didn't think I had iTunes installed, worked better on Windows 7. The break itself was even easier than w/ Blackra1n and surely - this is as easy as it will ever get! :D

The Cydia experience is not entirely positive but as can be expected Saurik is on his toes, correcting stuff as we speak. SBSettings is flaky and LockInfo isn't supported yet but OpenSSH seems to work fine.

Thanks @Comex =)

Going from home screen to spotlight seems a bit laggy after jb. Do u feel it?

As mentioned in a post previously, it is possible to make your iphone apps run in iPad native resolution by modifying the Info.plist file of the application. There's a brief description on modmyi.com but it doesn't go into much information.

I've tried the trick on Beejive and it worked perfectly. Also did the same thing on iPeng (the brilliant squeezebox controller) but sadly, although it ran in iPad native resolution, some of the buttons at top and bottom don't work.

It is all very promising though, and hopefully means that when we get iPad specific releases of these apps there won't be too much of an "HD" tax applied for those that are trivial to convert ;).

For those that want to try it, I found the following approach worked well:

Install and launch iPhone Explorer.

Using iPhone Explorer, navigate to the app on the iPad - it will be under /var/mobile/Applications (you may need to change your root path). The folders under there will look like a load of hexidecimal numbers, but if you expand each one you'll see the name of the app in there somewhere. You then look for the Info.plist file within the specific app directory and drag it to your desktop. You then need to edit the binary Info.plist file. I find it easier to do in a text editor so first convert it to text (via command line - cd to Desktop):

plutil -convert xml1 Info.plist

Edit it using your favourite text editor.

Add the following to the bottom of the file but BEFORE the </dict> line.

<key>UIDeviceFamily</key>
<array>
<integer>1</integer>
<integer>2</integer>
</array>

Convert it back to binary

plutil -convert binary1 Info.plist

Drag the file back to the same folder on the iPad. You can simply drag the file from Finder into iPhone Explorer.

I found that I had to do a reboot of the iPad before the changes came through, but so far it works very nicely.

Combined with Backgrounder, the functionality of the thing has increased substantially :).

What I've tested:

Works
- Backgrounder
- OpenSSH
- SBSettings AdBlock Toggle
- Safari Download Plugin
- Activator
- iFile

Kind of Works
- SBSettings (Only in vertical, graphically small, Process viewer crashes to SafeMode)

Does NOT Work
- ProSwitcher (SafeMode Crash)
- Kirikae (SafeMode Crash)
- LockInfo (Preference error, cannot turn on)
- MobileTerminal (App crash to Springboard)

SBSettings and maybe Proswitcher crash my iPad repeatedly going into Safe mode. I finally uninstalled both. installed SBS 3 times, always crashes.
