I love watches so I have quite a few, even a few Movados and none of issues with the glass, man has worn watches for many years without sapphire glass lol, I have never been rough with watches to damage them, not sure why I'd dent it or scratch the glass. But we all have our preferences

What to you defines "premium" Are Macs not premium because they're aluminum?

You are quite right, and I do giggle, when Aluminium has been spouted as THE premium material for year on here and so many other companies criticized for not using it.

And yet now, suddenly Aluminium is being deemed cheap and low quality.

Funny isn't it :D

The sapphire alone is worth the 200.

Worth 200?

You think the Sapphire screen costs $200 on it's own?

No ones saying it's cheap. They said it LOOKED cheap. Big difference. I'm sure it's great but on a watch the absolute standard is steel

Sports edition looks cheap and like a knockoff

Wow did you go to an Apple Store? I thought the sport looked great and the SS is nothing really special, just felt a little heavier. I'm very excited to get my sport on 4/24!

Similar thoughts here, Black Alu looked really fab - SS was nice but not for the extra $$

ITT: People trying to justify their SS purchase.

On a more serious note, I do believe that the Sport has a real place for many people. There are those of us that value and prioritize a sporty, healthy aesthetic over others. No matter what anyone says, it isn't all about the money. We need to stop thinking of watch selection as a shorthand for net worth of the wearer. I bought the Sport when I could afford the SS. It is a matter of personal taste and image.

The sapphire alone is worth the 200. Then you have the ceramic back and the strength of SS, I'd rather have a scratch than a dent

I definitely agree with you! The one thing we DONT know is if there will be a yearly/bi/tri-yearly upgrade to this watch… I'm honestly glad I went with the ss

Let's get real people. This is no Rolex. This is not some high fashion accessory. Apple is attempting to market it that way because they know the features aren't compelling enough at this point to get most people to buy one.

Those of you claiming the aluminum looks cheap are falling for the marketing speak apple is spewing. This a remote screen on your wrist that displays info from your phone. Nothing more nothing less.

Exactly. Or just mess with the heads of folks who bought aluminum. :)

I'm skipping the v1 watch, but aluminium was by far the most sensible choice, IMHO, for an unproven first generation device of unknown utility.

I hope everyone enjoys their watch. It's a lot of money, even the "cheapest".

I have to agree sadly. Just came back from my appointment and I'm thinking of cancelling my silver sports order and ordering a SS one.

Take into consideration allot of people that are purchasing are not accustomed to wearing watches on a regular basis. I've always owned a watch with sapphire crystal since the 90's and its proven to be a great investment

Truth is, there are two types of people buying apple watch at this time.

The fashion police and the techies.

The techies will say "it's a gadget who cares? It's just a smart watch not a fashion accessory, I'll be upgrading it in a year or two anyway"

And the fashion police will say "it's a watch it needs to be premium in both material and look"

So unless you people start to agree to disagree this could go on forever.

The back of an iPhone 6 sure does! The face is gorgeous. But the backside of an iPhone hasn't looked/fet premium since the iPhone 4s.

While I agree that aluminium casing looks cheap on watch, I disagree about the iPhone.

Aluminium casing on iPhone looks and feels way better than the glass back on iPhone 4. To be honest... When I compare iPhone 4 and iPhone 6 side by side, iPhone 4 looks like a cheap toy compared to iPhone 6.

What marketing speak? Apple dissing aluminium? Have you watched the video? Jony Ive almost salivates over the material and sounds like he's narrating the making of some premium Swiss chocolate.

I don't think the Sport feels inferior in the slightest, although I do look forward to a revamped design in the future for both.

Black Sport looks great to me, glad I went with it.

yeah, but that's just Ive being Ive. he would salivate over a piece of garbage if he tries to sell that to you.

Aluminum isn't bad, it's just the way Apple Sports finish is... I guess if they made it more glossy? (kinda like the Space black SS?)

I found the silver aluminum looked a bit cheap but I think that was mostly due to the colored bands. The bright colors along with the silver aluminum gave it a bit of a children's watch look, especially the 38mm version. Silver looked fine with the white band though.

I still preferred the space grey (which is what I ordered). It was much darker than the space grey on the iPhone 6 and was closer to the slate grey of the iPhone 5 (without the blue hue). I should have taken a comparison picture because its much much darker. That one didn't look cheap at all.

The stainless steel did look nice but it was a fingerprint magnet and I don't think it felt like it was worth the price jump, unless you went with something like the link bracelet which did look really nice.

The marketing speak that this watch is anything other than a remote display for your iPhone. Apple needed a new product category. This wasn't designed because Apple loves watches or has aspirations to be some coteur fashion house, they wanted to give us a reason to buy another screen.

Many of us fell for it hook, line and sinker even though the reviews mostly state there's no real reason for this device yet.

Wherher you get stainless steel, sport or edition you're still paying for a screen on your wrist that wirelessly connects to your iPhone. Watches have been timepieces and fashion accessories for centuries, they were at many times a symbol of status and social standing, this is why apple is jumping on the fashion bandwagon, cause they see it as being crucial to making this device a success.

Let's get real, this watch isn't very fashionable. Design wise it's a Casio watch from the 80's minus the onscreen keyboard. In many ways it looks like someone took an iPod nano and strapped it to their wrist with Velcro.

Sapphire is sapphire simple as That. My phone gets scratches

Honestly, I had to make a value decision. The SS offers no software or performance improvements, and I don't plan on keeping mine for more than a couple of years.

Your phone gets scratches and you replace it every year I assume?

My iPhone 6 has no scratches and I have no screen protector or case. The glass Apple uses is pretty dam sturdy and scratch resistant. Sure, sapphire glass is nice but I guarantee you there will be a new thinner apple watch next year, with FaceTime support or some other new features not possible on this current revision. I can afford stainless but I'm not a fool with money otherwise I'd have none.

Most wealthy people aren't foolish with their money. Broke people that want to look rich are. Them's there's the facts.
