Sitting here listening to Xbox Music on my iPhone wondering what all of this is about. Compare to Tidal? Yeah next informative article please.

That's right. In fact, why don't all business except Apple be shut down? Why don't we raid the treasury and Fort Knox and just give Apple all of the money, maybe go wage world war if necessary to try to force all other countries to do the same. Then, as we starve to death, the last one of us still alive can come on here for one final post: "Mission Accomplished!" All hail the Apple.

;)

I know you see the big picture, the world where Apple controls everything. That is the goal. And people can keep thinking they are different when everyone is the same. :D:D

Apple Music is interesting enough a product that I'm going to sign up on day 1 for a trial and see how things go from there.

It doesn't bode well that Spotify still isn't profitable despite currently being the industry leader.

Amazon still hasn't turned a profit...

It's not about the state of the industry it's about rapid growth.

Most of Spotify's valuation comes from cash flow forecasts into the 2020's!

I see it possibly as Spotify succeeding and Apple failing, why? Simple, because they announce themselves the have paid a huge amount in royalties to the artists, yet I have read that on Apple Music not all artists have signed up to it, so you may never get to listen to your favorite band on the service, but I bet they are on Spotify if they get paid for it. Is Apple going to be paying royalties to the artists on its streaming service?

I did think Apple Music sounded like a good thing, but to then read not all artists have signed up to the service sends alarm bells ringing, and also perhaps highlights why Apple promoted new and upcoming artists so much on their service.

I await to see who is missing from Apple's service and if they do then sign up, because Apple has a name in music. I think I'll try the demo.

Spotify suits my wants far more than any of the others (which is why I've been using it for several years). It's the only thing out there that allows you to choose the songs - or the albums - that you want to hear, rather than just radio stations with music "like" what you might want. I'll never give up Spotify.

Interesting. I'm not trying to hate on Spotify, just a business naturally needs to make money.

Also, Amazon's market value proves how ridiculous stock price is. Their revenue has increased dramatically and yet their profit has not. Despite this, they have a reasonable stock price.

Apple makes money hand over fist and is often said to face a problem because it can't sustain it's growth.

I tried most of the free ad supported music services and they are all annoying with the ads. They start out with only a short 15 second audio ad every four or five songs which is fine with me. They they start playing more longer 30 second or 1 minute ads every two songs after which they start playing video ads which makes no sense in a audio app that kills your battery and uses up your mobile data. This is why I pay for the music service and when I don't pay no more I delete the app.

I think Apple Music will be a better deal for smaller artists as Spotify heavily stack the money in favour of the big guns. That's going to be true of Apple music but with no free offering and with built in iTunes, the smaller artists have a greater chance of bigger earnings. It's important that Apple maintain the feature of buying and owning music though.

Let's see, Launch on june 30th.... punches numbers into calculator... I'd say Thursday, Friday at the latest.
The interesting stuff though is how many of them will convert to paying customers after the three month trial.

It might very well be that the number of subscribers they accumulate during the first week is the highest they will ever have until next time they do a free trial period.

Spotify do not have Pink Floyd... search it spotifier........
Oh, but they do. In fact every album.

That being said, choosing to not go for a streaming service on the basis of a band or two not being there seems like an odd thing to do. If you are a huge fan of a band said band you already have all their stuff - right? Problem solved then - just add the ripped files to your local iTunes or Spotify library. Both services are of course capable of playing stuff that is not in their streaming library.

A band like Tool might not be on any streaming service, but you still have 30+ million songs available for less money per month than many people spend on lunch every single day. Locking oneself out of that amount of music because you miss maybe 40-50 songs from a specific band makes no sense to me.

You do realize Apple Music will do the same?

all i know is Apple and Spotify can have as much music claims as they like, but the fact is the music I want to listen it is not on either of these... Companies like Central station, Shock Records for example pretaining into Dance/trance... Not much of this stuff..

Spotify has some, but nothing to raise the roof about. and Apple well........ .... *no comment*

Apple-Music-vs-Competitors.jpg

What a bizarre comparison chart. Pandora is Easy to use? Compared to the other services? Personal music integration is a banner feature on Apple Music, yet only listed under Google Play? What does Songs on demand mean? Doesn't that apply to everything but Pandora? And Pandora is a streaming radio service. It should be in a chart with iTunes Radio if anything. Where's Rdio?

Am I the only one who cares about quality?

Spotify's Premium offering nets you 320k MP3 while, apparently, apple music is only 256? (Even beats was mostly 320...)

I was really hoping for lossless. Perhaps it's time to try out Qobuz (edit: spelling), apparently they do HD Audio...

Shouldn't the concept that Apple wants to profit from this while Spotify doesn't profit factor into this speculation? Conceptually, those profits that Spotify don't make could flow through to the artists (I don't know this with any certainty- just offering my own counterpoint speculation). We know that Apple tends to like to take XX% right off the top (first in line) and that Apple likes big margins. Conceptually, Apples big margins could eat up a big bite of the money that could flow through to the artists vs. Spotify (again speculation).

From what I know, artists deals are generally very poor within the sale of their music. Apparently, they make a lot of their living by hitting the road (on tour). If true, exposure is exposure. If a listener likes an artist on either Music or Spotify enough to want to go see them on tour, that's probably the most money that artist can make from that consumer (unless they are among the handful of superstars).

Personally, I speculate the streaming model probably eats about all of the revenue between the streamer (Apple, Spotify, Pandora) and the label with the artists getting a tiny slice at best. If true, the unestablished and/or fledgling artists probably wants the exposure on both or all of them in hopes of building up a following that will then pay up to see them on tour. I doubt the non-superstars will see either service as their one best option... but just one of several options where they want to try to grow a following.

Apple do usually want a big cut but they are usually a bit more balanced in how their charge. That could work for the smaller guys more than what they get from Spotify (which is crippling them). Plus, if you want to own your music but sample it first, Apple Music is the one stop shop which obviously favours the lesser known artists who are actually making quality music.

hey! I am a Google Music User. I am using a free account and I already have uploaded more than 12,000 tracks for FREE! did I say Free? Why your comparison table isn't saying free?

It could also backfire for Apple. I am sure the major artists with millions of plays would be a bit miffed if one play of their songs is considered to be worth less than one play from a much smaller artist.

AAC 256 is as good or better than MP3 320.

Of course you won't really be able to tell the difference in any case. Easily proven with a double blind test.
