Would this fix the 2-3 delay in changing songs?

It's Spotify's music discovery that draws people. Not sure if Apple has implemented something similar.
Apple has but it is very poor in the opinion of many users. Shame, as Apple Music is better for keeping one's album collection.

Won’t make a difference. The HomePod isn’t a competitor without a smarter Siri. Siri Siri Siri Siri Siri Siri Apple. That is what’s holding the device back. But they know this. They are just trying to sell as many of these things as they. Any other company would have been stopped manufacturing these things. But Apple with its cash hoard can afford to waste money.

Think in reverse: I have Spotify, why would I want Apple Music if the content is about the same?

I don't see the point of Apple Music if I can get what I want from Spotify.

Also, I can Stream Spotify from more devices than Apple Music, making accessibility better than Apple Music.

:)
This. As many have noted, the Spotify algorithms seem to be better--much better. The one time I tried Apple Music, I was shocked by how awful their taste-prediction engine was. This was admittedly a while ago and likely has improved, but I'm in no hurry to test it. Those who prefer Apple Music are perfectly free to stick with it, but I find Spotify fantastic--apart from its hard limit on the number of albums you can have in your library; that gets annoying.

HomePod for now, is the best speaker out there at that price point. And unlike the competition Apple will support the HomePod for a good amount of time (imo).

Apple isn't wasting money and there are rumors of opening up the HomePod.

I've had apple music since Day 1.

I'm on a 3 month Spotify trial right now as well.

The Spotify interface is better. Premium sound quality slightly better.

I personally like the continuous play option more. I ask to play one song and Spotify puts together a nice playlist for me.

I know Apple does something similar, but for whatever reason, the Spotify playlists are more to my taste.

The same, I've extensively used both and for some reason Spotify just seems better overall, this is coming from someone that religiously used iTunes from the very first version.

I don't agree.

I look at my HomePods as just excellent speakers that 1) take the place of a stereo and 2) take the place of a sound bar for my tv.

I don't need them to do "smart" anything else, except maybe the weather.

Do you people actually walk through your house and have intelligent interactions with Alexa and get all kinds of things done?

I don't (and I have two Echos). And when I watch YouTubers trying to explain how "smart" Alexa or Assistant are, I see people saying things like "Hey Google, what's the tallest building in the world? What country is it in?"

I do not care about any of that at all---I don't need a speaker for silly trivia.

Just play the music I tell you and answer a question about the weather every now and then and I am fine.

Apple Music free with Verizon. Free trumps Spotify and anything else. Yeah I know nothing is ever free. But it’s still free.

Saying this another way, on some Verizon plans Apple Music is included. You can avail yourself of it or not. It actually took my a year to try it, and I’m wondering what the heck took me so long.

I am no fan of Apple Music even to the point that I never once took advantage of the many free 3 month trial offers every time I purchased a new Apple product. Spotify totally trashes it. No contest.

How would you know if you have never even tried the trial?

You're whole post just states, "I'm just hate on things without first hand knowledge."

I'll stick to my $15 second-hand google home mini thanks. Its digital assistant is light years ahead of Apples, has more diversity of supported apps, and the music quality is fine for my non-audiophile ears.

And when this happens I may then buy a HomePod

Worst apple product I’ve ever owned. Bought 2 of them, regretted it quickly, sold them. So limited and restricted compared to my google speakers. Good sound but really not close to being worth $350.

I agree with you, but after using both extensively, I can say it’s true. Apple Music is not on par with Spotify. if you care about a wide range of speaker and platform support, it’s no contest.

Im looking to buy one more HomePod. We love it, it produces great sound And with airplay available off-network we don’t feel restricted on its use.

Same here. I currently have two HomePods, one in my studio and another that gets swapped between my wife's studio and my garage woodworking workshop. It's time to buy another to avoid the swapping. Best price I've seen so far is Best Buy at $249.

I purchased my first one two years ago when the product was released and was a bit skeptical, thinking I'd likely return it within the 14 day window. After a couple days of use that turned into a no way, it's mine.

The sound is excellent and I like that it works autonomously, not needing another device to stream music. I especially like that room acoustics are automatically equalized whenever it's moved, and that it can take Siri voice commands from 20' away in the presence of loud music and other sounds. There's a ton of innovative signal processing and beamforming inside to make that happen.

I'm looking forward to seeing where Apple takes the next HomePod-like product.

Likewise. AM works with Apple devices better and Apple isn't going anywhere so AM is "safer" than the other streaming services.

I think that’s what the decision tree essentially boils down to.

If you use Apple Music, the HomePod is pretty much the default choice.

If you use Spotify, then get another product like the google home or amazon Alexa.

You buy the speaker based on your existing choice of streaming music, not the other way around.

LOL, default player? Naahhh.. for all I care, You'd have to say "play X on Spotify" everytime you want to stream a song from the HomePod. Just like Siri on your iPhone or iPad.

Plus the iOS memory management will keep Apple Music as the only music player. Say you're playing music from Spotify, everything works fine but then you stopped and run some other apps. Just a few minutes later you plug in your headphones again and press play button, what will the iPhone play? Apple Music!

Um, that because Apple Music is the default player...

I wish Apple was more open to what they do with Spotify and Homepod as they would be with their argument of the 30% disagreement on the App Store..

I guess some things are just easier to solve than others :)

Erm not if you listen to anything else than mainstream music.
To me Apple Music has nothing to offer.
[/QUOTE/]
erm. “Apple Music and Spotify both feature massive libraries, but Apple claims more, with 45 million tracks against Spotify's "more than 35 million" songs.tom”s guide Feb 25, 2020”
lets see 45 million is greater than 35 million? The math is hard

now if you say a particular genre that you failed to mention, maybe

I am glad to finally see them opening up a little bit. They have been limiting their selves by not having it open for all of these other music services. People who like music like speakers that sound good. The HomePod sounds good therefore I am going with the HomePod but service wise I prefer Spotify over AM. So if they finally open it up and it works well I will buy one, soon.
