your wish has already answered - many devs dont put their software to mac appstore because of stupid restrictions so that the software cannot function fully. no wonder mac appstore is dead.
that was your wish, not mine.

I think that if the end result of all of this is that Siri finally opens up and can talk to Spotify, it's all worth it. I don't really care about any other parts of this case.

Effortless and weak. “Well whatever Apple = monopoly = bad guys right?”

However EU has always been biased pro-european anti-american so they might throw a bone at Spotify. Won’t be enough for them to survive in the long run as an independent company.

On a Siri being able to control Spotify I actually agree. This should have been solved already.

Everything that Apple said is true.
But 30%? Are you kidding me, even 15%?
I would think services like this would expect 1-5%. Apple is greedy, pure and simple.

I am so tired of people like you, all you do is whine and throw out absurd baseless and ignorant opinions about cost when you have no clue how a business is run!

So you are an expert and know the business structure and cost involved in developing and implementing a worldwide network for software distribution ? It cost money to develop the SDK’s, it cost money to build and host the servers for iOS, it cost money to review all of the apps to make sure they comply with the TOS, it cost money to process payments and do all the accounting. It cost money to hire lawyers to deal with the legalities of conducting business in each country, not to mention an the expense of dealing with the complexities of translating and working within numerous different countries, laws and customs iand coordinates acting that I. To a system that works world wide. It cost money to manage the entire system of networks, troubleshoot issues and provide technical support to developers. Apple and the app developers have agreements on the cost and the rates for the services Apple provides. There are contracts and these rates are deemed legal and fair by accountants, executives and lawyers on both sides who have studied these issues in depth. Yet somehow YOU think you are an expert and 1% is fair for the services provided?

Sorry, Apple is a company to provide products and services so they can make a profit, they are not here to just give you stuff because you think the % is too high. Don’t like it? Go build you own operating system, servers and app ecosysems - Assuming you could even do so, and that you got a si gel person to buy in to it, I would love to see you do this and pay for it using only 1-5% of the gross sales!

Indeed and I subscribe to Netflix just fine, as a matter of fact since I hate in-app purchases I have always subscribed through the web site.

As soon as you subscribe to Spotify they send you emails to lower your subscription to $9.99 by going to their web page.

They even use their own streaming audio service to tell you subscribe through their web page.

I can’t see how their complaint that Apple is preventing them from communicating with their own customers is legit.

I was thinking the same thing. Spotify is to artists as Apple is to Spotify - a platform in which to deliver a product/ service. Along the same lines we could say we are more accurately "[insert favourite band] customers, not Spotify customers". I think it's quite hypocritical of Spotify to start crying like little bitches.

If the issue was against Apple Music specifically being on unequal ground with Spotify on iOS, I think their complaint would be more justified.

I don’t understand their logic, they’re mad that Apple takes a 15% cut for distributing and promoting their app while they do the same thing with artists?

They fail to mention that App Store brings in double as much revenue compared to Google Play Store, if you’re not happy with Apples 15% cut, just use Play Store and see how it goes for your business.

And also, Spotify decided to go to court so they could have a bigger cut from the poor artists while Apple decided not to. They’re such a hypocrite

I personally like Apple’s app purchases,, because I don’t like to subscribe to a bunch of web sites... then when it comes time to change my info, credit card, I change it only one place... it’s convenient for me and I feel safer.

This narrative about calling Apple a “monopoly” is just so wrong. The App Store is a platform with millions of apps, and there’s plenty of competition. If Apple made every app, they’d have a point.

It is a monopoly because they sold me a device, then tell me what Apps I can put on it. That does not work with any other device you buy. If they leased the device that would be different. But they sold it to me and therefor they are being monopolistic unless they do one of two things; 1) basically approve any app that does not hurt the device's security, or 2) allow side loading of apps outside of the Apple store.

Would you accept a TV that only plays certain TV programs? No. How about a guitar that would only play classical music? No. How about a car that only goes to approved locations, for example, that do not serve alcohol. No.

Now you might say that I bought the device knowing this so it's my own fault. But the Apple App Store rules are capricious, arrogant, and stifling. I did not know that when I entered the Apple ecosystem and the rules have gotten much worse with time.

With computer chips being put in everything now, we have to stifle this nannyish behavior before it pervades every device. Think about a nanny Tesla, or a nanny refrigerator, or a nanny toaster that only toasts full grain bread.

So somehow Apple, with on 25% market share in Europe is a monopoly?

Marketshare of what?

Does apple have a monopoly on pizzas? Clearly no.

Does apple have a monopoly on iOS app stores? Yes.

Did apple create "the platform"? Yes but they didn't make those 3rd party apps.

No other store has a monopoly on certain products where other people made the products.

Mc Donald's has a monopoly on big macs but they made the big macs, not some 3rd party. Apple didn't make these 3rd party apps.

Because choice is good?

Because it is better than Apple Music?

*shrug*

Why does that bother you?
First of all "Choice is good?" in and of itself is not an argument. People confuse choice with abundance all the time. Second which one is better is highly subjective.

Spotify is greedy. They do not appreciate loyalty in any way. I was a subscriber for quite a while. They raised their prices instead of lowering them for longterm customers.

Apple makes the hardware and software. They can do whatever they want with their platform.
In America maybe.
They [Spotify] will quickly realize that 70% of the profit is better than 100% of nothing.
Let’s see how Apple likes it to sell no product in Europe, shall we? Her name is Margrethe Vestager, look it up!

Oh I see!
So I should be dreadfully unhappy because I have a choice apart from AppleMusic's Hip Hop and "Urban" centred music offering?

Really? ;)

Take off your Apple blinkers sometimes.

Seriously… the world outside of Apple is quite nice…

The level of people defending these practices by Apple is absurd. Spotify has a great case here, Apple are being extremely anti-competitive by not playing by the same rules as the rest of the streaming apps.
Agreed.
But… the Apple… err… fa… err… supporters cannot allow themselves to see things objectively.

That would be betrayal! ;)

Apple plays by the same rules on every other platform than their own. That’s the nice thing about owning a minority platform. You can do what you want.
