Forgetting that Apple gimps competitors in the app store and the ranch and can get away with it because of its market power. Beats me how the the biggest company in the world that takes 90% of industry profits is positioned as the underdog.
Who are they gimping? They have had the same rules forever, long before they competed in these spaces. They don’t want iOS to be the toxic cesspool that is the google play store. They have a tiny tiny percentage of the smartphone and PC markets. What market power?

I think Spotify has a case that has merit.

1 - when does a competitor get to take 30% of your revenue. What business would be ok to give a competitor 30% cut unless they are forced due to a monopoly.

2 - there is no other way to install apps and your iOS like on Mac and windows where u can just go to the publisher site and download/install. Apple has a monopoly on all app distribution which is abnormal for a operating system.

3 - apple is controlling the client base for all Spotify’s customers who buy through iTunes. I don’t think Spotify has access to that customer Data. Apple does - and apple is a Spotify competitor. Sounds bad.

Here is a question to think about.
What if Microsoft disallows apps to be installed on windows unless it goes through their windows app store. - and would it be ok to have all iTunes purchases for music/movies get taxed 30%. Would that be ok?

I think not.

Apple is not a monopoly.

How about Spotify builds their own devices, build their own software to run on those devices, build their own store, build their own payment system, instead of betchingg about Apple’s 30% cut on their platform and store. theiR not freee!!!

They wouldn’t be anywhere without Apple’s users!!!!!!!!!!!!¡¡!!!¡

Uh, yeah they are. They don't let third-party companies build Macs. Spotify isn't platform specific. Spotify has its own store and payment system. Apple just wants a cut of it.

Good point! Now the question is should those speaker manufacturers be able to change Apple 30 percent per customer, you know because it’s their speaker/platform?

Nobody or nothing is stopping them, except for maybe the fact that they benefit from having Apple Music and Spotify’s installed base buying their speaker.

Apple doesn't charge Spotify anything for being in the App Store. Spotify is on tens of millions of iPhones for free. Apple just wants a cut of any revenue Spotify were to make if they used iOS as a platform to charge users.

Apple Music doesn't get subscribers from the speaker companies. Apple Music customers are already subscribers when they listen to Apple Music on those speakers.

Booooo. tHat’s like saying why doesn’t MicrosoFt let third-partY coMpaNies build Xbox. Why doesn’t Sony allow third-parties make PS4’s. Why doesn’t Philips Hue allow third-parties Make lights for the Hue LIneUp and their aPP. These companies can dO whatever they waNT with their products. Dat doesn’t make Them a Monolopy. FACEEE PALMMMMMMM. apple is applying the same rulez 4 everyone. App Store isn’t rUn 4 free. And they get 2 decide what is allowed on their Devices.

Useeee your brain stem. Spotify is a service. I said if they want to play by their own rulezzz , they should make their own platform. They shouldn’t use Apple’s services, if they ain’t gonna Pay. Spotify IS BeInG CHEAAAAP

They fail to mention that App Store brings in double as much revenue compared to Google Play Store, if you’re not happy with Apples 15% cut, just use Play Store and see how it goes for your business.

I *HATE* this mindset/response from Apple fanboys. That logic is like saying Apple should be ok paying ISP's a cut of their revenue because the internet brings in "so much more money than brick and mortar and is the foundation of the iPhone/iPad/Watch/TV ecosystem." Oh, and in order for an ISP to let Apple products traverse their network Apple can't mention non-internet avenues to purchase Apple products. How much revenue the Appstore brings Spotify is irrelevant to the anti-trust and conceptual problems with the status quo. The status quo was frustrating and annoying but entirely different now that Apple has competing apps that are advantaged.

Apple made their devices. Built their software. Built and runs the App Store. Built their payment system for that and subscriptions. And shared development tools to build apps. This isn’t free!!! DDUHHH

They're consoles. Big difference. Lots of 3rd parties build personal computers though that can run Windows/Linux etc.. There are alternatives to Philips hues. You don't have to buy them. You can buy other smart bulbs from other companies. Apple doesn't let anyone build Macs and sell them on the market. That's text-book Monopoly right there.

The devil is in the details. Spotify has more subscribers but since when? Since 2008. Apple Music has half as many subscribers and was launched 3 years ago. People here can ride the keyboard all day long, but for Spotify, the writing is on the wall. Basically, every single company underestimates Apple and Apple plays the long game like a king.

Be proud.

sometimes i real wish that big developers pull their app from appstore - especially after comments like this.

They can so why don’t they? The quote is correct even if you think the big mean company is being....mean. Apple doesn’t owe devs free anything and if it wasn’t worth it they wouldn’t sell on the App Store in the first place.

That is not at all what “monopoly” means. That’s like saying McDonald’s has a monopoly on Big Macs, Porsche has a monopoly on 911’s, and Ben and Jerry’s has a monopoly on cherry garcia.

A monopoly is when you have sufficient control over a market segment that you can set prices regardless of demand, for example. And a monopoly is not necessarily illegal unless it is leveraged in some way to hurt consumers.
