Think I will stick to Apple Music now as with air pods max the sound is better given the new features added to Apple Music.

I think this strengthens Apple’s case. It shows that Spotify is struggling simply because they are lazy. Not because Big Bad Apple is holding them back. Spotify holds themselves back all on their own.
Obviously Spotify has the manpower to support it any day, most likely they have had it running for years on internal versions. It’s probably more to do with the whole legal, trial thing, as well Apples lacking support for audio formats they don’t seem to like, such as the one Spotify likes.. :)

Surprised Spotify didn’t sue Apple for not doing the work for them.

After reading how terrible Spotify with artists I feel better for being Apple Music subscriber.

I, uh, wonder what made them change their stance to the complete opposite lol

They went from not supporting it at all until further notice to saying it will support it lol.

Yeah, very strange. Have been a backlash of the media /social media?

Because it’s a much better service.
Not necessarily.

I love music as do many people. I want artists to be paid fairly across ALL streaming platforms leading to:
Artist basing their contracts on how many users can be reached (if you think numbers),
Artists basing their contracts on how THEY want their work to be featured,
Artist music being an authentic represented how it was meant to be recorded. not just plugged in.
Artists music being discovered.

The music genre's or styles I listen too heavily get screwed up on Spotify (free/paid) at every attempt. Sure Spotify's algorhythm seems to be the best in the industry and has for a while now for the most popular genres' but I actually enjoy artist interviews showing insight to their inspiration, how they came up with the sounds, lyrics etc in their music for their recordings, why they wanted to collaborate with others chosen for a specific recording (we know many now do because of the low per stream payment rates).

Yes, there is a 2sec lag with Spotify over AirPlay excuse it only supports real-time audio. You only get lag free controls if you support buffered audio which is what Spotify decided they are unwilling to do.
What does it matter if there is a two second lag for music?

I have a question.

Compared to the original version, AirPlay 2 improves buffering; adds streaming audio to stereo speakers; allows audio to be sent to multiple devices in different rooms; and control by Control Center, the Home app, or Siri, functionality that was only available previously using iTunes under macOS or Windows.

How can Spotify support multiroom audio via Airplay, and Airplay to stereo paired speakers, if their app dont support Airplay 2?.

Have they implemented part of those features over Airplay 1?. How?.

The article had been updated and Spotify now says it was just all a big mistake! lololol

1. It’s better
2. It has more songs
3. It has much better recommendations and radios
4. Apple, being Apple, provides mediocre services and support outside the US and some countries in Europe ( mediocre localization, no localize customer service - English only, much smaller library in Apple Music due to incomplete international licenses, etc…)

In my country, Spotify heavily invested in localization, publicly modifying their recommendation algorithm to to adjust local opinion and preferences.

1. Not if you a) work for them b) Want to be paid by them as an employee or Artist.
2. Hmm - Well as of May 21 - Apple Music = 75 Million - Spotify - 70 Million. Not that matter I can't have heard more than about 2.8 Million of them
3. I'll give you the Recommendations - Radio is 99% poop, annoying DJs and adverts.
4. ok. Shrug. So in YOUR country Spotify is better... see point 1. Unethical, Cash mongers.

I'm also also from Sweden. Spotify is not categorically better, it just comes down to taste in how things work. I've never liked Spotify, but Apple Music suits me perfectly. 💁🏼‍♂️

Because it’s annoying as hell that every time you do a track change it takes 2 secs to respond. Buffered audio is instant. You know it’s really okay to want better.

LMAO love the Spotify attempted damage control update. Sorry Spotify, too late! I prefer Apple Music and it's far better than your ridiculously black UI and lower quality audio. 🙄

Legacy apps can still do multiroom audio to AirPlay 2 devices. It just ties up the device the whole time.

Thank you very much. So is not about new features then, but about performance, stability and battery life.

I think its a lot of things that are diffrent between spotify and apple music for me as both a mac and windows user
1 - Price, with apple its cheaper but clunkier interface for me also if you use icloud storage apple one is a nice fit that also have apple tv+ baked in and some other stuff.
2. On windows spotify app is superior but sure you can use web broser to listen to music.
3. Playlist management id say go to spotify
4 Discoverbility for new artist maybe same same spotify seems have looked towards apple because its worse imo in the app on spotify i prefered the old way a 1-2year ago.

In the end i think there is no fit all, you pick wehat you think is portant and go from there.

So far its Spotify for me but i may go to apple music, nowadays you can move playlist from one service to another super easy with third party website and some even have so you can setup a playlist sync between spotify and apple or if its some other streaming services.

If you have a small playlist you can do it for free with below if you only want to copy the play list

Or pay if you have a large library or want a permanent sync.

Obviosly other services or tools also work.

I think the Spotify vs AM is becoming as legendary as the iOS vs Android argument.

I use AM myself because:
1. Live lyrics — Spotify lyrics still aren’t available in Canada. I actually use this a lot because I somehow mishear quite often.

2. HomePod + Siri Integration. I have a HomeKit home (not by choice, most of it was gifted by parents when I moved).
3. iCloud Music Library (IML) that can be used by Siri.
  • I have a lot of music that isn’t found on Spotify’s or AM’s servers.
  • Unless I use Bluetooth or AirPlay, local songs on Spotify will not play through Google Cast or Spotify Connect as its not uploaded to their servers.
  • IML let’s me upload my songs and I can just ask Siri to play it on any of my speakers separately from my phone.
I do wish the AM app on the Mac would be revamped. Even on the M1 Air, there is still a delay on the search function. I do like Spotify's queuing system better.

I cannot tell the difference between them on audio quality. Even on Highest quality on Spotify and AM lossless on my Bose headphones (wired), I cannot really distinguish any significant change.

Haha yeah. Reading through this thread there sure seems to be some people that are taking this waaaaay too serious 😆

I still don't know why any iPhone people have Spotify over Apple Music
Since I bought my Airpods Max I've been trying out Apple Music for few months as it has lossless support.

Unless Apple improves Apple Music dramatically, I just cant switch to it from Spotify. Here are some main reasons:

1. It's buggy as hell, some songs only play 15 seconds, some just give an error. If you add two same tracks to a playlist, you can only remove them both or have duplicates there. With lossless songs it sometimes randomly plays super loud static that had to remove my headphones to protect my hearing. Sometimes it just pauses playing for no reason at all.
2. The search is absolutely horrible. Even if you enter the full song name sometimes it just can't find it or it lists songs first that are completely different named.
3. Discovering new music is really hard compared to Spotify
4. Trying to see the full album or browsing more music from an artist is super difficult.
5. The general UX is not even close to Spotify experience.
6. Spotify ecosystem is really good especially if you have mixed mac/pc/whatever environment

My main reasons for preferring Spotify is:
1: I got sick of clicking on the album name if the current plying track and it only randomly working. No errors, it just ignored the click. I joined AM in the beta phase and had it for about 3 years and it seemed they were never going to fix this. Today it seems like it’s fixed but I’ve already jumped ship.
2: I hated how you would lose your queue if you accidentally force closed the app. This also seemed to finally get fixed several years after launch.
3: I like how Spotify is in sync on all your devices. For example I can be at the house listening on one device, get into the car with my phone and it’s the same queue, on the same song at the same time code. Get to the office and pick up playback on my computer right where I left off. I used a service a long time ago called Rdio that also did this and I loved it.
4: Music discovery is terrible on AM compared to Spotify.
5: There are open source Spotify Connect clients for Linux making it easy to use a Raspberry Pi to make any speakers Spotify compatible. Or you can have one server with several sound cards to run music all through the house.
