I'm personally thrilled!
This means I won't have to see his show surface in my YouTube recommendations anymore.

It doesn't seem to matter how often I choose "not interested"...
I can't seem to permanently get rid of Rogan.

Thank you Spotify!

as an aside Joe Rogan is a moron anyhow

Correct.
He has so many bad takes on so many issues that are way beyond his depth of knowledge.

It's honestly a little scary to see how many people rely on him as some type of almost "journalistic source" that they think is giving them great information.

he may have been swayed by a $50M paycheck

That's really the start and end of all the reasoning and justification.

I don't blame him one bit (we'd all do it), but anything other than "massive payday" is just reverse quarterbacking and searching for some other rationale where one need not, and likely does not, exist.

So... it's a podcast about MMA?

It’s a podcast about MMA and DMT with a dose of conspiracies, politics and watching clips of animals killing other animals. Also MMA and DMT. Occasionally they’ll have a guest that you might recognize and the conversation might not involve the above but it probably will.

There is often some bad diet advice as well as uneducated takes on various subjects beyond the breadth of knowledge of both the host and the guest as well.

I will be listening. I have been an avid listener for a few years now. This move comes from the fact that YouTube demonetizes way too many things. It has been a complaint on his show, but also a litany of other podcasts. If you talk about a controversial subject, you risk losing ad revenue. You can barely joke about some things because even comedy is policed. YouTube is becoming old media. They are increasing censorship and Google itself has been co-opted by traditional media sources. They want to be completely corporate friendly. Rogan won’t be the last high profile podcaster to ink a deal with Spotify. It doesn’t mean YouTube is dying, but it is continuing to chip away at its own content providers.

Not too many people realize a bulk of his pay and viewers are on YouTube. He’s afraid of playing other YouTube clips without getting a copyright strike. Google/YouTube demonization gotten worse this year. Just mentioning the word coronavirus or covid19 you can get demonetized. Joe say can say a lot of controversial stuff so he can get demonetized. So creators will be flagged and get a pay cut and no pay at all.

Finally. I can get rid of Apple’s Podcast app and have everything in one place.

Rogan's podcast has been on Spotify for quite a while. Most top podcasts are already there. This deal only makes it exclusive to that site.

Ha, ha. That is ridiculous. Not true. If it's attached to hate speech or a TOS violation, maybe, but I/m OK with that.

While I applaud Joe for sticking it to YouTube, I primarily listen to podcasts through my AppleWatch while running each day through the podcast app. I am not going to start trying to manage multiple apps for multiples of different podcasts. I fully admit that I am in the Apple walled garden and if an app isn't conveniently accessible through the podcast app then I won't be listening. Best of luck to Joe but it means that I wont be listening after the change. If he did get $100 million, he doesn't need luck though.
You will miss out. I guess you're simply unable to install and utilize another app...sorry to hear this. I'm glad the consistently most gifted and popular interviewer on the internet is getting paid well.

It was guaranteed that this would happen at some point with podcasts. The best thing about podcasts was they were app independent, as they get tied to platforms I won't be listening anymore.

im not certain if this is the first of its kind, exclusive podcast content to a single platform. If it is it took a very long time to occur.

very glad Apple has not engaged in this and hopefully will never do so in the future.

Wah.... just whining and crying with a sprinkling of positive comments. Oh my God! The horror of having to install another app!!! Oh no!!!! Last time I checked, app installation and switching between apps didn’t require a live sacrifice or blood oath to be made. Then again, I may be an iteration or two behind on my iOS updates. So the guy is attempting to cash in, so what? There isn’t a person in this forum who wouldn’t do exactly the same thing in his shoes. I’ve seen his comedy - it’s mediocre at best. His podcast is huge! If you’re a fan, support him. It’s still free, regardless of the platform. YouTube is terribly restrictive about content, and will demonetize a video in a half of a second with barely a reason given. As long as it doesn’t impact his content, what do I care?

I would guess the issue some have for switching between apps to listen to podcasts is specific to queuing various content sources to be played one after another during a jog, working out etc when switching apps then launching a stream or downloaded cast would be cumbersome at worse.

Good riddance.

I just watched Joe for the first time. How the heck is he so popular? The guest was Musk who must have a reasonable level of intelligence to have done what he has done in the business world, but I was surprised how poorly he expresses himself, super short stumbling responses. He either banged his head on the way to the studio, had too much weed or is suffering from something else. He almost made Joe look intelligent. Just my opinions of course.

That's just how Elon talks

How much more of heat shock proteins, elk meat, Brazilian jui-jitsu, bowhunting, and kettle bells can listeners take before going insane? Cya joe.

Hard to say.

One risk of a user downloading Spotify to listen to a podcast is that he might then end up subscribing, which means Apple loses him as a potential Apple Music customer.

If Apple suspects they might stand to lose a substantial number of existing Apple Music subscribers who might end up defecting to Spotify for their exclusive podcasts, they might feel compelled to retaliate in kind to protect their turf.

I don’t know how this would work though. Currently, music and podcasts reside in separate apps on iOS, so a subscription service for podcasts looks like it would get messy and confusing very quickly.

It's funny how some of you are dismissing one of the most influential figures on social media right now.

His show/podcast is phenomenal and he's had countless people I am interested in on his show. Usually it's an enthralling 2-3 hours with each guest. In fact some people I've never heard of end up being a highly entertaining listen for 2-3 hours.

I have no interest in MMA so I don't tend to listen to his MMA podcasts, but some of the guests from the MMA world are always a great listen.

It's still going to be free so I don't understand what half of you are crying about. I can even get the Spotify app on my TV so I can watch the full show as normal as can most of you if you have a Smart TV. No biggy.

This is a massive blow to everyone but Spotify. They've pulled off a coup here and it will hurt YouTube which can only be a good thing.

Prior to this article, I had no idea who he was.

Wasn’t this regarding the App Store ‘monopoly?’ & Apple not allowing Spotify to put a ‘Sign up to Spotify’ button in their own app due to them not paying 10/30/n% of their entire monthly subscriptions for a few measly TBs of hosting bandwidth and some non-optional App Store exposure? Forgive my ignorance if not.
Yeah you have to pay where you lay. Spotify chose to participate knowing the rules. The rules benefitted them gave them millions of dollars worth of exposure. Now when the rules don't bend to their greed they get upset.

They also were decrying Apple for having Music Exclusives and were retaliating against artists who did Music Exclusives with Apple. The point is they were being monopolistic themselves. Here is another show of that monopolistic behavior because even with 100 million listeners (60 million who are paying), Spotify can't turn a profit. I won't even bring up the fact that Apple has to make sure many of those listeners have their Spotify updates etc and that the platform works as expected so Spotify can continue to stay in the market despite losing hundreds of millions of dollars year after year.

"influence" ≠ "quality"

Most of us commenting have seen his show plenty and have an informed opinion of it.

Rogan's show is mostly questionably informed and over testoteroned "content".

The guests can be great, yes, the "Rogan" part is usually the problem.

Luckily these guests are almost always on many other shows as they usually are launching a product or have other reasons to be seeking some PR.

The funniest thing about Elon Musk in the last few years is finding out that he's just a stupid person. Like he's just dumb. He isn't even smart at one thing and dumb at others, he's just pure dumb.

Nerds all thought he was some kind of genius just because he was into nerd ****.
