I just switched to YouTube Music after a decade on Spotify because it just didn't make sense for me to pay for two music streaming services anymore when I already have YouTube Premium.

The only thing I really miss is "Spotify Connect" cuz playing music via Bluetooth to my speakerS is annoying.

I'll also miss the annual recap

You'll end up getting some various recaps on YT Music also.

If I ask a salary increase my company makes a million excuses. Including more responsibilities.
What do we get from this increase as users??
Is this the kind of question you ask your grocery store manager when the price of eggs or meat goes up in price? "What do i get from this increase"? Spotify has increased $3 in 12 years...but eggs triple in price and people buy cart loads and hoard them!

Look into all the audio streaming services. Spotify is the ONLY one that thinks it’s a valuable business to be in. All the other companies are connected to a vast portfolio where they just have to be profitable across the board. Apple would LIKE Apple Music to be profitable, but as a part of Apple One, if it drives those subscriptions, still a plus.

I still buy CD’s. I’ll play what I want when I want.
Have you ever even used a music streaming app? It sounds like you haven't a clue how they work.

With CD's your logic is flawed because you can't pick what songs you want on the CD...you pay for a CD and it has a few good songs and a bunch of not so good ones... do you're actually paying for songs you may not care for or ever play.

Wait, Spotify have horrendous business practices, pay artists a pittance, and still aren't profitable?
Don't trust MR to post accurate information.

After testing Spotify here a bit, I can see why folks who've preferred how IAP works don't like the "linking out" experience as much.

I wish Apple would figure out how to make peace with some of this and get Apple Pay to be a middle ground solution they offer. That would be very "IAP like" in functionality from the user side, while addressing complaints about IAP fees.

(it doesn't make nearly as much money for Apple, which is of course why they don't like that potential future)

I really don’t get why there’s a large chunk of people that are entirely devoted to Spotify even if it’s more expensive, less profitable for artists
Who honestly chooses a music subscription service based on what artists are paid?

This 👆

It's fun on forums for us to pretend like this is a factor, but it simply is not for essentially everyone in the mainstream.

In an ideal world it should be ... but we don't live in anything close to an ideal world.

I'm of a stripe that likes to think I care about this, but I honestly buy music and maintain my own library for my very own selfish reasons (wanting control and accessibility and organization of my own library).

Yes they can, per Judge Rogers' ruling in the Epic case.

Oh wow! I didn't realize this!

Have they done it yet?

(I don't have the App to check -- are there like links out? or how does it work?)

Very cool!
Thx
Allowing Spotify to place an external link on their app instead of requiring a subscriber to open a web browser and type in www.spotify.com to sign up for an account and to make a payment is not Spotify bypassing the App store anymore than what Spotify had doing before. It's a load of B.S. because you were never able to pay for a Spotify sub through the app.

Apple didn't get a cut from Spotify subscriptions before and Apple continues to not get a cut of subscriptions now with the external link. Nothing has changed.

What the hell is Spotify spending all their money on? I still can't play songs from Spotify on my HomePod without it using my iPhone.

I'm surprised they waited this long, honestly. They need to take a leaf out of the TV streamers and raise the price every 10 months or so. /s

Your bias against Spotify is showing -- you know nothing about the price increase except there will be one.
Your bias towards Spotify is showing. Considering that the fees do not go directly to the artists and go to the labels that control payments to said artists, based on contract terms, it is easy to conclude that the price increase is staying in-house to Spotify. There is always the outside chance Spotify is generous decides to increase their payments, but I think we can all agree that is not happening here.

I'll just leave this here ...

You know as much as the first guy I responded to. You both seem to be, according to your own opinions, stating the obvious.

Buy your music, it's more fun to discover new tracks on your own based on your own browsing as opposed to what a computer thinks you should like. This is a huge miss for todays generation.

It’s not that different. If you went browsing in a record store in the old days, you’d realistically end up trying music that the store (or its corporate masters) chose to stock and promote.

On Spotify, maybe the algorithm chooses things or maybe you listen to human-curated playlists. But in the end it’s the same, if you like something you add it to your library or favorite it. If you don’t, you skip.

And this is why I buy the $99 for the year gift card every time I want to renew. Keeps my subscription at $8.25/mo.
