Meh. I get wi-fi just about everywhere I need it, and the Sprint speeds are fine for website browsing and basic multimedia use. Reception and call quality are excellent, and I get to utilize the Verizon network when outside of Sprint territory. Oh - and I have unlimited texts, data, and 1600 shared minutes in addition to unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling on any network.

I'm saving about $750 over the course of my contract. So any boost in speed Sprint provides will be a nice treat, but either way Sprint is the route I'd prefer. Speed tests are a fun way to impress your friends, but I don't see much real world benefit for my purposes.

Apple better not hope it is hardware because they will have to complete foot the bill for the screw up.

Looks like Apple really dropped the ball on this one. While Sprint's 3G speed is not the greatest the iPhone should work like all the other phones in terms of speed on Sprint's 3G

Correction: The iPhone is working just like all the other phones on Sprints network.

Exactly! Every phone on their network is getting exactly the same speeds, it's just easier for the iPhone users to realize what ****** speeds they're getting - myself included. I've been tracking and experiencing this issue for over a year now, and I've had it with the complete idiots at Sprint, so I'm leaving.

I spoke to a Sprint rep last night and he told me that there was a nationwide issue pertaining only to the iPhones and that it is supposed to be fixed by today at 6:45pm. I guess I'll give it a few more days and see. I did get prices from AT&T today too though so I am ready to switch if need be. I was with a client today that has an iPhone 4 on AT&T and hid down speed was 2.76, I was right next to him and got .27. Very embarrassing

Being a little hasty aren't we? IF the problem were hardware-related and couldn't be remedied by a software/firmware update, THEN Apple would undoubtedly do more than necessary to make consumers happy. They always have, and there's no reason to believe they wouldn't in this case.

But until more in known, blaming Apple or Spring entirely is pure speculation.

If you look at the thread over on the Sprint forums, that's the same BS they've been feeding everyone else. I'd just switch now and get the process rolling.

My experience was worse

My experience with Sprint was even worse than the tests reported in the story. I was averaging about 20kbps or about 0.02Mbps.

I called Sprint every day, often several times a day, trying to get them to resolve the issue or even acknowledge the issue and assure me it would be fixed.

Saturday they flaked on another appointment I had with them and that was the last straw. Switched to Verizon. I would have loved to go AT&T, but I was with them previously with my 3GS and was unable to get a decent signal where I frequent.

Now Sprint is giving me a hard time about returning my money even though I'm still well within the 14 days. Beware, if you preordered they may have activated your phone days before you received it. I'm still within that threshold, but if others are on the fence about returning your Sprint phone, check your activation date NOW. It may be earlier than you think.

They're also trying to charge the activation fee and a $35 restocking fee per phone even though they're being returned due to Sprint's failure to comply with their portion of the contract as advertised. I'm not sure I have the energy left to fight that battle and may just pay the ransom.

All that being said, on paper Sprint does have an awesome deal (as for as cell rates go). So, if you are lucky enough to be in an area that isn't affected by these problems, congrats and enjoy. I hope Sprint fixes the issue soon, and had they made it clear that there was a problem and gave some gesture that they would fix it and not stick it to us if they fail, I would have stayed with them.

Maybe next time...

I love how everyone is raving about ATT. ATT never had issues with speed, they had issues with consistency. The 4S didn't change that. Dropped calls are still higher on ATT than any other major network.

I'm glad I dropped ATT and switched to Verizon. I was thinking about going to Sprint for a potential decrease in price, but there is none. After seeing the speeds people are getting with Sprint, iPhone or not, I'm glad I chose Verizon.

Go Verizon bichiz. Suck on it AT&T and sprint and tmobile users!

I post that information about the problem on october 15, I bought the iPhone 4S to be use in Sprint but next day I returned hugging back Att, the problem was if you uncheck the data roaming on the iphone setting won't connect to the Sprint 3G network the whole time my iPhone had internet it was roaming horrible speed just 112KB. So I close the service in Sprint I just last 6 hours...LOL

yay for me

Horay for me always sticking with AT&Ts gsm, always allowing my to talk and surf, and being grandfathered into the unlimited data (that doesn't his speed diminished because he isn't a mega data user), and a cheaper, better [for me] (but not unlimited) text plan…

have fun on your limited unlimted everything plan from sprint, derka derk! ;):D

(oh yeah and i never knocked at&t so yeeeaaaahhhhbooooooyyyyy) :)

Enjoy all the dropped calls. Who needs surf and talk anyways? Go big red!

Drop calls, calls going straight to voice mail when the phone says it has coverage.

Thanks for the tip! Just called, got a really nice lady (first time ever) and she changed our activation dates to the 14th, from the 10th, so now we have until the 28th to return them, and she'll do it for us if I email her back when we're ready!

Verizon is just a slow, crappy network with no support for talking and web browsing at the same time (unless LTE)

For those wondering if this affects the iPhone only, I think not. My friend and I ran the Speedtest.net app at the same time. Mine on my 4S and his on an HTC EVO Shift. We got literally the exact same result, 0.26 vs 0.27. That was about 4 days ago. Since then I have been experiencing much better speeds. When I woke up this morning i tested and got 2.00, that was admittedly atypical. I am averaging around .80-1.00 which is a lot better than many of the reports I have been reading. Hopefully Sprint addresses this in a convincing manner for everyone.

Sprint has been really good to me recently. I'm in New York City and I get 2.5 MB down and around 1MB up. About a week ago I was getting less than a tenth of these speeds so I'm assuming sprint is working on it. What's the point of selling iPhones to get a bunch of returns.

GSM sucks here in LA. Too many hills, too many buildings. I used to get lots of dropped calls and my ATT friends complain of this all the time. I never get dropped calls on Sprint and my data is fine here. Seem to be regional issues, but I have no complaints with Sprint or the 4S.

Voice is fine - data sucks in LA (los angles - not sure if you are refering to louisiana. I've tested in Brentwood, downtown, Culver City, Century City, Pacific Palisades, Malibu and Gardena - I never exceeded 500k down. I average about 300k down and 100 k up. 4G never stays connected for long but the max speed I EVER got on 4G when it stayed connected was 800k - complete rubbish!
