sprint's a fail

unless you plan on using the internet for only email and getting siri to tell you she can't connect to the network. If you want speed, honestly go to att. I had them and it was awesome. the only reason i switched was because I don't use the net outside enough to justify the 15 dollar a month price difference. If that wasn't the issue, then i would have kept att. But hey I'm cheap

Is it even physically possible to download 2 GB/ mo at those speeds?

No. I've been trying for over a year on my EVO 4G and never managed to top 1.5GBs /mo. :|

Yeah, it's only going to be $9/line for us to switch, which isn't much considering we also have a 23% discount on our first two lines.

I just did a Speedtest and got .25, not one of my better results for sure. However I was still able to stream Netflix without a problem. That surprised me.

Not sure what the deal is with Sprint, but my Verizon iPhone 4S works TONS better than my AT&T iPhone. I would much rather have consistent 200 kB/s then unreliable 400+ kB/s with dropped data connections.

It's really annoying listening to Pandora and having it randomly stop playing for a minute while it tries to get the signal back (and even more annoying trying to use maps). I live in Phoenix, which should have good coverage, but my experience with AT&T was nothing short of terrible. My connection with Verizon seems to be always on and responsive compared to what seemed to be lag city with AT&T.

Lol you really think Netflix would even buffer at those Lowe speeds. I barely go over 600MB data per month 2GB may not seem like a lot but it's plenty sufficient when you're off Wifi

Not all of us have wifi available all the time. That's sort of the point of an iPhone; if I had wifi all the time I'd buy a touch.

Netflix works fine at 500kbps, btw. It's a bit blocky but perfectly watchable. I typically used about 750mb/month on my old Android phone, but it did a lot less than the iPhone so I expect to use more (especially with iCloud, iTunes Match, video chats, etc.).

I've consistently seen better real world performance that Speedtest results would have you believe. It's definitely slower than ATT, and Verizon in a lot of places, but it works. I'm holding out hope that in the short term we'll see a "fix" that gives us a more consistent connection and in the long term sprint rolls out their "Network Vision" plan pretty quickly with some improved backhaul to their towers and utilizing the 800mhz Nextel spectrum to free up some wireless space for more users on the same tower.

I finally got rid of AT&T and moved to 4s on Verizon in houston. The speed tests show anywhere from 0.5-1.5 Mbps but regardless I have no actual real world problems whatever the speed be. I am in downtown Houston nd work in the mes center and speed for this fone is spankin fast. Browsing Facebook , CNn, huff post etc no problems , it is fast. I have no issues with Siri either. It works! Compared to my previous 3GS on AT&T , wow the 4s on verizon, now it feels I have a new 21 year old mistress ready to go toki toki boom boom....

AT&T is great except in the major cities like SF and NYC where it'll SHOW you 4-5 bars and you literally can't make a call (goes straight to vm) and the internet won't load at all - thanks AT&T. You suck.

Not to say my sprint doesn't suck right now but I just got a replacement phone from apple and now my speed is .6 to 1.3 so it's definitely very usable!

Sprint data speeds just picked up for me around 9:30pm and now I can even use it in my home. Just wondering if anyone noticed too.

I come here almost daily but never have a reason to post. This time, however, I registered just so I could share this with y'all.

Apologies for the questionable quality; as you probably know getting a screenshot in Android isn't as easy as it is for iPhone.

If you just recently signed up with Sprint for your 4S, please don't fall for their bull. As others have said, they're just hoping you'll stay past the point of no return. As you can see in the above image, these issues plague even non-iPhone devices on their network. Hell, it isn't rare for me to get upload speeds that are twice that of my download, a fact that's simply unconscionable.

Seriously, they'll crow about their unlimited (for now) caps, but what use is it if you can never use your connection anyway?

"Goes straight to vm".....you do realize your phone MADE THE FREAKING CALL!!! it went to THEIR voicemail...that means it connected to the FREAKING NETWORK and successfully MADE THE CALL...LOL

A Verizon guy told me that Verizon rents towers to Sprint, and they limit the capabilities, as well as how much mobile data Sprint users can use.
I thought Sprint users roam on Verizon if they exit Sprint coverage but the area is covered by Verizon?

So Verizon is more reliable than AT&T in many places and faster than Sprint. A compromise for sure, but reliable/good enough data speeds will do for now.

It's Sprint. Apple doesn't control internet speed on their devices. It is sprint plain and simple. Sprint is a control monger. They are suffering losses and they are trying to control how much data is being transferred to stop brown outs of their data network witch would force them to build more towers to handle the load. Verizon should buy Sprint and desolve it into their company. Plain and simple.

Don't you remember that many years ago it actually was the better implemented technology? Back in the day when there was TDMA and GSM was on the horizon?

Just going to point this out to to you but TDMA is GSM. GSM 3G is WCDMA.
GSM is just an international standards for cell phone signal that is to be used.

You are using the term GSM incorrectly.

Seriously !

I never believed in CDMA

Never will

Step away from the W-CDMA technology that your precious AT&T iPhone uses.

/b

It's a seperate branch

It's still considered part of UTMS/HSPA which is the GSM tree, which is composed of various technologies

I think GSM only works well in a country with multiple GSM networks (T-Mobile US dosent count) as it promotes competition between carriers since they know their customers can switch with ease or buy a phone that can be used on any network so they need to grab them, so their constantly working on going cheaper and getting better (eg in the UK we have O2, Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile and Three all using GSM standards and same frequency ranges and yet their constantly getting cheaper including data)

But when there's only 1 GSM network (AT&T) then GSM is seem to be hated and hugely expensive

You know it's apples to oranges comparison right?
If you went from iPhone 4 to iphone 4S, and switched networks, it would be a much more interesting comparison. Thing is, you are comparing a 3GS(!) to 4S on different network. I would be willing to bet you that with an iphone 4 on the same network, you would have gotten similar improvements in performance. Fact is around H-Town, AT&T is very fast. And with their LTE up and traffic starting to migrate there, the 3G traffic will lower and have less congestion.

It validates point that issue is device specific, AT&T had same issues at launch of first one. Hopefully things will improve from here on. Big thanks to everyone who left Sprint for AT&T, you guys helped with less congestions for others.

You're not trying hard enough! I hit 1.6GBs by the middle of most months on light usage and that's with me spending most of my time in a WiFi office. I constantly hit 2.3GBs when I was a freelancers and over 3GBs when I used my EVO as a hotspot.

This is all without spending much time on Netflix/YouTube.

I haven't noticed any speed issues with my EVO or with the other 4G devices on my family plan, so maybe Sprint just loves Baltimore.

I had the same speed issues with my HTC EVO 3D on Sprint. I bitched about it for 4+ months and they did nothing. So now I am a happy Verizon customer.

Then I stand corrected. I only remember it being called TDMA here in the US.

You do realize that he's talking about actually having somebody pick up the phone right? In this case he calls, the receiver of said call never gets an incoming call and just get a notification of voicemail.

Right?
