I'm really torn right now... on one hand, it's the WSJ. They speak volumes and don't usually open their mouths unless they're very sure of their sources.

On the other hand, I can't believe Apple would do this. There isn't a single iPhone 4 user out there that has completed their 2-year contract with AT&T or Verizon. They'd be pissing in the faces of every single iPhone 4 user by not allowing them to upgrade.

As much as I trust the WSJ, I'm calling BS. This just doesn't add up, and I don't think Apple would screw this many customers for a few extra bucks. IMO, they'd lose more in iPhone 5 sales than what they'd make from Sprint!
The WSJ article doesn't say anything about an EXCLUSIVE deal with Sprint. That's all blog speculation.

Wait, how are they being prevented from upgrading?

I keep browsing here to see what the majority of people are thinking. This post makes me say "I'm so glad all speculation will finally end tomorrow". This is the MOST ridiculous theory/thought I've read on here regarding the release of the next iPhone.

Who was that company that launched their new phone exclusively on Sprint?

Oh yeah, Palm.

That went well...

It's what BGR is being told, they are not making the speculation.
Yeah, and BGR has a pretty crappy track record with "what they are told". They are told a lot of crap they pass off and people believe.

Nope, didn't miss it at all

Not just anybody can write just anything they like and post it in the WSJ.

While it doesn't make it 100% that this is correct, it's not exactly rumor in a forum....

Yeah, I hope he's heard wrong.

If it's true (and I don't think their is a grain of truth to this) than you can take it to the bank that AT&T and Verizon will team up to trash Apple and iOS devices. You don't just backhand your two existing carrier partners (and two largest carriers in the nation).

If Apple is stupid enough to pull a stunt like this, then I'm a lost customer. Never in a million years would I deal with Sprint again. I'll get a Galaxy S II over a 4S.

People need to read the whole WSJ article. There is no mention of an exclusive only deal and no mention of a iPhone 5

These bloggers are just getting people into a frenzy.

I can see Sprint being cut in, but not exclusively

Exactly.

It's amazing the credibility people put in BS blogs like BGR over the WSJ. BGR has probably been wrong more than they have been right in the last couple of weeks.

I'm not saying it's true, but I'm never so quick to blow off any rumor....especially the REALLY outrageous ones like this.
