Apple hasn't put any of the new 4.3 features into the CDMA iPhone to date, they've been waiting (we assume) for iOS 5. If this is true (from the way I read it), they're going to be fragmenting again due to some features being held out from the AT&T/VZW model.

I know as a VZW iPhone user, I've felt shunned by lack of updates from Apple addressing features they gave to AT&T iPhone customers 6 months ago. If they go and do this again tomorrow...

However, it makes sense in a way. Apple has said the LTE chips are still too large for use in their handsets. But maybe the WiMax chips aren't? (I'm not in the know here, I'm also assuming the wimax chips aren't the same chips they'd use for LTE)
The GSM iPhone hasn't had an update in over a year; first quarter of next year would only be a year for the CDMA iPhone.

I just don't know. This could be true, but will suck if the difference is truly more than just the wimax chip.

NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

So many ATT and Verizon customers would be pissed, especially long-time iPhone users. Apple wouldn't do this.

I never saw AT&T packaging. That's actually what most people complained about, it wasn't in an AT&T package.

It is. The color scheme is consistent with their corporate colors. And I've seen generic accessories in the same packaging in AT&T stores.

People need to read the whole WSJ article. There is no mention of an exclusive only deal and no mention of a iPhone 5

These bloggers are just getting people into a frenzy.

I read the article like 3 times over after seeing all these posts about apple abandoning ATT and Verizon looking for any mention of it. Simply not in the article.

Long time Verizon iPhone users? lol

I'm a long time Verizon iPhone user. I switched from Verizon to AT&T to get an iPhone. I switched back to Verizon when I couldn't deal with the inability to make a phone call anymore. I got a Verizon iPhone the day it came out. Long story short, I've been an iPhone user for almost 3 years.

Omg. Some of you can't read...

-WSJ is reporting that Sprint is "betting the company" on the iPhone by paying apple $20 billion for iPhones.

-BGR received a tip sometime ago from a reliable source that sprint would get the iPhone 5 exclusively. BGR thought it was nuts and didn't report it.

-Now with the WSJ news, BGR went back to the their tipster and is now saying maybe it is true. Maybe sprint is getting the iPhone 5 exclusively.

There. Simple.

Yup, and it was widely reported that Bush 43 won the 2000 election...We all know how true that was.

and he won every count and recount and it went through the counts so yes he did win. Very very bad example to try to make your point.

"Dewey Defeats Truman" is a much better example. It is a perfect example of a newspaper wanting to get something out first rather then being accurate.

Are y'all just having fun or are you this gullible. Sprint couldn't sell that many phones if they sold them for a $1 each to rednecks at NASCAR races.

Are you saying that Apple has decided to drink some leftover Jim Jones Koolaid?

You drew your own assumptions of my statement.

There were several comments in the thread along the lines of "I don't want to believe this, but the WSJ is credible". The WSJ did not report any exclusivity was my point. That tidbit came from elsewhere.

I do beleive SPrint put up lots of money and a promise of so many units to get the iPhone. Don't beleive they are getting anything the other carriers are not getting.

Actually this could work out really well for Apple and if WSJ reports it then it has credibility. Here is the scenario!:

Apple gets guaranteed sales for the next 2-4 years from sprint. Sprint gets iphone 5 exclusive for 3-5 months then 2012 all carriers get iphone 5 along with the iphone 4s that will be released next week. I would give some company this small window of exclusiveness for 3+ years of guarnateed sales!

I think you get what I meant though. It was a funny phrase. We're all so damn serious today. I was just having some fun.

Plus, Apple doesn't care about someone who's flipping carriers all the time. It obviously wouldn't piss someone like you off who doesn't seem to have a problem switching carriers frequently. Most people like you would just switch to Sprint. But again, I don't think it's going to be exclusive.

That wasn't my comment. I was saying that the WSJ isn't just a random posting on the net.

I don't think Sprint would put up that kind of promise if they didn't get some sort of exclusivity. 6 months was often a standard exclusivity for new phone releases.

However, I'm not convinced Apple would do it...and with WiMax?? Seems crazy.

I'm reserving judgement until the announcement tomorrow. My head will be spinning in the meantime.

I doubt it will be exclusive to Sprint, but GOOD FOR THEM! I'm switching to Sprint from AT&T for my iPhone 5 come pre-order day :D

I didn't think there would be any way it could be exclusive.

But... with the rumors of the 5 being delayed until next year. Could those rumors have come from ATT/Verizon? Could it be delayed until 2012 for them? That would be freaking nuts.

Yeah, like you said. We'll know tomorrow.

What worries me is that Chronic has been saying early 2012. All along. If this is true, it could be why.

I hope not.

If Sprint got an LTE iPhone, I would debate giving it a try for 30 days. But WiMax? No thanks.

Apple totally doesn't need the money to make this deal just for Sprint. I'm highly skeptical of this. T-minus 22 hours (Eastern time).
