I don't think are strong enough on executing to turn it around. Their magical "Vision" turned out to be snake oil and being bought out and fighting the Dish Network deal doesn't seem like good judgement. Their executive staff is clearly just looking to cash out.
Well, the big problem right now is the backhaul. Lots of sites in Phoenix have been upgraded but because Cox and Centurylink won't get off their lazy backsides there is no fiber optic cable to hook things up to.

They are working slowly it seems. Still, since my mid-August post we have had about 5 new LTE sites go live. Sensorly finally shows purple for Phoenix.

Do Cox and CL provide backhaul to TMobile, VZW, and AT&T in PHX?

It's interesting that in the time that this thread has been running, PHX's LTE just started. Whereas AT&T seems to have launched over 100 new markets, including all of Eastern NH and Southern Maine (rural compared to PHX)

Probably. There's only a few vendors that provide the backhaul to the carriers.

AT&T being slow I get. I believe that Centurylink has an attachment to Embarq, which has a tie somewhere to Sprint (a bad tie I believe) so, coupled with the fact that Centurylink is still digesting their swallowing of Qwest here and that speculation I'm not surprised that Centurylink is slow too and Qwest was just awful. Think Sprint, but for landlines!

Cox, on the other hand is independent of the two and even had partnerships with Sprint in the past. So, that one I don't get. Especially, since until now, I haven't heard a lot of bad about Cox.

We had Centurylink come to our door offering DSL a month or so ago. Which was funny, because when we moved here 13 years ago I put us on Qwest's DSL waiting list because we had a home phone with Qwest then. It took Qwest until 2007 to even offer DSL where I live and I don't live in the boonies. So, I guess Centurylink was following up. But we've had Cox since 2004 so the visit by the CL guy was just laughable.

Anyway, as I've said here in the past, no idea why backhaul can be competently provided on time for the three other carriers, but gets delayed and delayed again when it comes to Sprint. Maybe Dan Hesse made someone mad, IDK.

Haha. There has to be something they're not telling us. :(

I've thought about posting this up on S4GRU, but I'm convinced the regulars will send a hit team to my house :D

Well…let me tell you. I had an earlier post in this thread and my opinion about s4gru.com had been detailed by that point. Got a phone call from someone a bit later who left me VM because I don't answer calls that aren't in my contacts.

Whomever it was used a Google number and posed as an MR moderator to issue me a "warning" about torrenting.

Take that as you will. The mods here don't have access to your phone number (which I had never given them) and this is not procedure in any case. But try and trace a Google number.

Makes you wonder. ;)

That's bizarre! Somehow they must have gotten your IP Address and used that to get your home address that's linked to a Sprint Account?

Well, Sprint does have my address of course. And I'm not trying to hide, so if anyone was willing to dig a little they could have either paid money or surreptitiously used Sprint's account system. My phone number isn't advertised, but again, I don't actively try to hide it.

As to my IP address, that's easy to get too I would think. It's dynamic, but you know how ISPs are with IP leases.

Not that I'm advertising anything, because I'm not, but any creditors that get my number are out of luck. :D

Well!!!

My LOOOOOOOOONG wait is over. Sitting on my couch at home and I've got Sprint LTE!

Almost 11mbps down with 2 or so up!

About time Sprint, about time!

And yes, for those of you on other carriers I get it. That speed is pathetic compared to what you're getting. But for me, it's a damn sight better than the 0.25mbps that I have been getting on 3G!

Yes I know it pales in comparison to other carriers but I'm just happy to have LTE

Awesome! That's twice what I am getting right now, but I'm just happy to be out of 3G!

Unplugged my Airave tonight. Going to be going back in the next couple of days!

I'm actually excited. I've been with sprint for 9 years and I had been very close to switching. All the broken promises, but I've heard that there entire LTE would be done by January 2014! Have you heard that?

Honestly I wanna stay with Sprint because now I'm just used to it lol.

I've been with Sprint for 14 years (since 1999). I am very excited; I've been waiting for this. I bought my iPhone 5 last year knowing that I was in a non LTE area at the time.

Now it's here, the backhaul vendors finally got towers near me hooked up. It's been mushrooming in Phoenix, but until now not around my area. I was almost ready to split in August, but that's when LTE started to show up.

It's my understanding that LTE will be finished around October 2014 for Phoenix. I don't know about your area. You may be farther along than us.

Congrats! I just switched from Sprint, couldn't take it anymore. But I know how you feel about going from 0.25 Mbps to LTE. Its like a whole new phone and experience!

Idk I'm in Lexington, Ky. I would think with Phoenix being a bigger area it would be further along, but honestly you never know. I mean Lexington isn't small by no mean, but it's not huge. I'm just happy we do have LTE. Now we can see where it goes from here. Had Sprint not wasted time with Wi-Max!

Thanks! I'm having a hard time putting my phone down and every time I turn the screen on I'm expecting to the the old 3G icon.

Amazing what three little letters can do. :D

Well, it's a big area because it consists of a lot of cities that collectively get considered as Phoenix. They've been upgrading it since December of last year. It's just been slow because Cox and Centurylink have been slow to deliver the fiber-optic backhaul.

The issue with WiMax was a matter of Sprint being told by the FCC that if they did not utilize the spectrum, Sprint would lose their licenses to that spectrum. LTE was in a concept phase then and WiMax was new, but being implemented by Clearwire. So, Sprint partnered with them in order to save the spectrum licenses.

That's why in some areas Clearwire only had token towers, just so they could tell the FCC that, yeah, they were using the spectrum.

Any idea how far off the Houston metropolitan area is from LTE completion? Sucks to have LTE up the street and not at your house lol.

Houston is a first round market. Have a look here and here.

According to s4gru.com Houston should be complete by November, 2013. Keep in mind that Sprint will also be repurposing old Clearwire and iDen towers for LTE which should expand thing somewhat. Keep in mind that Texas is a market that has limited spectrum for Sprint.

How about North Carolina ? Not feeling the love here much :(

Just go over to s4gru.com and look in their forums. You want the NV Running list whichs is in the networks forum and the thread for your market which you can find in the Markets forum.

Nice... When i had Sprint i got 0.5 Mbps, FULL BARS.

Switched to verizon= 60Mbps

DC area.

Sadly I've been monitoring s4gru lol. I thought you could give me new hope :(
I'm sorry! Most of the information I get is from their publicly available information. If you become a sponsor (for a donation) they give you access to a lot more stuff.

I've just never done that because I have a fundamental disagreement with the management's values and opinions over there. My first post would probably get me banned so I've never registered.

Lol I had my thread closed over there because I asked if anyone ever unlocked the sprint iPhone 5 (firsthand knowledge)

Saw a comment on one of their boards that said that if you have 1x at the moment instead of 3G that you'll most likely not see LTE. That's scares me a bit because my phone goes back and forth between 3G and 1X.
