Dream on. Palm Pre failed, partly because of Sprint.

Absolute BS.

I purchased the iPhone at launch in 2007. I used it until around last September when I switched to Sprint for lower prices and picked up the Palm Pre.

The reason the Pre failed is because it's the absolute worst smart phone I've ever used or experienced. WebOS is nice, however the lag is what kills that phone. On top of that, add a touchscreen that seems to miss 1/4 of my touches. The worst is when I touch the end call button...it doesn't show any response so I touch it again. Oh wait. the first touch DID end it, the OS just didn't show it, so what happens? The call button is the same button as the end call button, so it registers the 2nd touch as a call and calls them back.

That's just in the phone app. The Pre sucks. It has nothing to do with Sprint. Sprint's network is far better than anything I dealt with on At&t. Hell, I loved my iPhone but it wasn't worth it for the troubles when Sprint put their lower prices out there.

I want the iPhone on Sprint. If it doesn't happen, then I'll go with the EVO. I'm also an Apple stockholder. I'm tired of people's opinion's like yours. Constantly saying that Sprint is awful. They aren't the same company they were. It's uneducated opinions. Not that Sprint hasn't had their issues....they certainly have. They are better now than they have been in years.

I can't wait for the iPhone to come out on CDMA so all of those who said it would never happen can just sit back and bite their tongue. They claim to be Apple and iPhone fans, if not addicts/macheads...whatever. If that was true, you should WANT the iPhone to come out on other carriers. It's better for the company.

Get over yourselves, elitists.

I am in the camp that does not believe Apple will mention other carriers when introducing the new iPhone. I believe there will be other carriers this year, but not until fall. It will be announced at the same time as the new iPod touch is announced and will be immediately available. There may also be a larger touch with a display between 5 & 7 inches.

You may be right but I personally don't foresee a larger iPod touch this year, especially since the iPad was just released.

I swear this is not intended as a joke or sarcastic post...

I recently spoke to a guy at a Northern Virginia Radio Shack who CLAIMED to be an ex-Apple employee. He said that there would be a CDMA iPhone this year, called the World Phone (which I thought was ironic, since GSM is really the world standard). He said it would be sold unsubsidized for around $1,500 but would be able to function on any CDMA network, not exclusively Verizon or Sprint).

I haven't mentioned it because it seemed a bit third-hand and random. But if a Best Buy employee can start rumors that tech blogs take seriously, maybe this guy is telling the truth too?

I like the idea of a world phone but $1500 is kinda expensive considering that doesn't include the monthly plan cost. IMO a former Apple employee to Radio Shack employee doesn't sound like too reliable of a source. Just saying...

Just jumping in as another very satisfied Sprint customer as far as plans and coverage is concerned. In Metro Detroit, AT&T is a joke, much as it is in other places. Everyone I know with an iPhone drops calls all the time, and oftentimes it takes an hour for a text to go through! They can't stand it, but they're obsessed with their iPhones. I can't stomach the thought of paying so much for such horrible service.

I've used Sprint consistently for years now, but in that time have also had phones on AT&T and Verizon for secondary purposes. AT&T has always been a headache for me when I've had it. Verizon was the clear front-runner early on, but Sprint is easily as fast and reliable now. They've come a LONG WAYS in just the last couple of years in terms of coverage as well as customer service for the record, which was much needed. And again, you can't beat their plan prices.

Sprint definitely wasn't going strong five years back, but because of that and the subsequent customer losses, they've had to battle back harder than ever to stay relevant and in the game. In the end, it's paying off for the customers. Five years ago I would have been casting Sprint out with AT&T and declaring the glory of Verizon as the one and only worthwhile cell-carrier. But in 2010, with coverage as strong as Verizon's and far more affordable plans, to me Sprint is the only way to go.

And if there's no iPhone, the Evo 4g is sure as hell not looking like a slouch...

I also would love to go back to Sprint, was with them for 7+ years before switching for the iphone in 2008...

but I'd personally be pretty surpised if any new carriers are announced this year.

Why does everyone think that once LTE is available the CDMA will be turned off? It'll take at least 4 years for there to be enough LTE coverage to even consider LTE being the primary voice technology.

It has been mentioned before, CDMA needs to be here as a fallback for areas where LTE is not available. There is more than enough time to make up the investment in the design/development of a CDMA iPhone. Remember that most of the non-recurring expenses (NRE) for the iPhone were in the touch screen technologies/R&D and the OS. Very little of that needs to be changed for a CDMA iPhone. You just need to change the radio out, re-layout the PCB, do the testing, and get the certifications.

I didn't mean to imply CDMA would be turned off. I am was referring to a CDMA only device. Apple would rather wait and do a LTE with CDMA fallback. That opposed to a CDMA only, then a year later do a LTE/CDMA device. LTE will start to become available in some markets, but I agree CDMA won't be entirely replaced probably for 5 years.

Every one wants a verizon iphone, but in actuality (at least in tampa) sprint has a much better networks, i get 5 bars everywere on my work phone, never have dropped calls, etc. we switched to verizon and the reception and data is not as good (going by field test modes) plus sprint has 4G in many cities, better calling plans (pricing wise).

In addition, Apple wants a cut of the revenue from the carrier.. I believe sprint is much more likely to ok this as they need customers more than verizon.

Sprint used to be great in Dallas....they suck now. Not sure what happened.

No, Apple is no longer getting a cut of the revenue. That ended a while back.
