Check with Sprint

For only a $40+ a month you can have Sprints WONDERFUL 3G coverage plus whatever ridiculous amount of money they are going to charge you for the hardware. :D

My price to make my Sprint EVO a WiFi hotspot for up to 8 devices is $29.95/mon for up to 5 GB for 3G & unlimited data where 4G is available. This is a month to month contract. You just add it when you want it & take it away when you don't. Sorta of like what the AT&T plan was supposed to be.

The devices can be any device that will connect to a WiFi system. That would include desk tops, lap tops, iPod Touches, iPhones, iPads, etc.

They're all about equal

What?!?!?!?!? Thats ridiculous! How do they have any customers for that?

The $60/mon for 5 GB of data is about the normal amount for AT&T, Verizon & Sprint. AT&T is finally allowing tethering with the iPhone with the new 2 GB/mon plans. Verizon has their plan which for 3G is currently the same as Sprint's. It is $29.95/mon for 5 GB of 3G service when tethered to a data plan. Verizon says that they will be changing their data plans to be more like AT&T's. Sprint has 4G in 29 cities now with more to come in the near future. We keep spending more time in Chicago on of those 4G cities. The thing with Sprint 4G tethered data service is that there is no data cap. The plan is month to month.

It's only Rev 0 as well, so the speed is limited even for 3G, but it's a step in the right direction. Do you actually need "4G" speed on an iPod?

It's good for bragging. First moves thing forward ... First phone with a kick stand ... some crap like that ...

Apple should just buy out Sprint or T-Mobile and quit screwing around with AT&T. THEN they'd have some real fun. Course then the data plans would probably be outrageous...even by Apple standards

Yeah, that would never ever ever happen. The Supreme Court would shut that down very very quick.

I wish I could get something like this on some kind of prepaid plan. Especially until I can get a verizon iPhone. I don't need much data but it would be nice to be able to get email or look stuff up on my iPod once in a while. Not to mention being able to connect my laptop once in a while.

So if the price is right and I don't have to have a phone as well I might just think about it.

That's what I'm talking about!

And- why not do this same thing for the ipad?

for all the folks who's comments are "why not just get an iPhone?"...I realize I'm in the minority here...but I live in a rural part of the country, where cell phone coverage is spotty at best...and what we do have is not AT&T...so a phone would make little to no sense...however, a Touch configured in this manner, with an affordable usage plan would be fantastic and very useful...I've been jonesing for a Touch for a while, and trying to wait until the 4G comes out...and am very excited about this possibility

Then have a look here: http://208.29.16.165/j/b/peel/index.html
and have fun i.e. use the same device?

"The ZTE 3200 comes with a browser interface that allows you to configure the device. You can select a profile, establish security, and set more advanced settings.
In addition, you can search using GPS technology and provide temporary shared Internet access to a maximum of five Wi-Fi-enabled devices.
"

So this device is a mobile hotspot that also happens to be a case/shell for an iPod touch right? That doesn't make the iPod Touch a mobile hotspot; The case is the hotspot.

Might wana fix that article\thread title.

What (again)?!?!?!?!? How? Virgin Mobile has a $25/month plan for unlimited data and text. And they bounce off of Sprints network.

Since it is a mobile hotspot, you can connect your MacBook and your iPad and two other devices to it, so yes, you want the speed.

is that a camera i see on the back of this thing!?!?!?! what is this? the device that does everything the iPod touch doesn't do that the iPhone does. The only thing i'm confused about is how could the camera connect to the iPod if the device doesn't actually connect to the iPod?
