No, I do not have any other phones on my account or owe any money.
It's just my iPhone 6. Thanks for the tips.

The phone is attached to an account of course. I have not restored via iTunes though (can't lose my jailbreak). Are you trying to imply that we need to explicitly ask for a domestic unlock?

You have to restore it. The jailbreak would prevent your iPhone retrieving the latest activation policy from Apple and you will be unable to use other carriers(international included) until you restore the phone through iTunes.

That's what I figured, but I inserted an international sim, and it worked. So is the domestic unlock tied to restoring? Also, how did spring unlock for international in the past? I never had to restore for that... Thanks for the suggestion though.

Not necessarily,

Your phone thinks its still in December 2014 when Sprint only unlocked for international use and the jailbreak is preventing you from getting the updated policy from Apple's activation server.

Restoring should fix it.

I hope you're right, I'll find out when the next Jailbreak is released. Thanks again!

iPhone 4S no longer connects to Sprint

Had my Sprint iphone 4s (which was working great on Ringplus, a Sprint MVNO, I am no longer a Sprint customer) unlocked by calling Sprint, at first he tried to do domestic unlock then ended up transferring me to the international side, who said they'd give it a shot. A couple days later I get an email saying it's unlocked. I popped in a T-Mobile SIM to test and it worked great, and still does. Should have known then it was a little too easy!

But now when I put back in the original Sprint SIM (which connected me to Ringplus) it says No Service. It's like it forgot how to connect to CDMA, in Settings / Carrier only AT&T and TMobile are listed and Auto won't connect to Sprint/Ringplus. I think I tried everything; first resetting network settings, then wiping everything and starting fresh, to backing up and restoring in iTunes (which said congratulations your iphone is now unlocked), even upgraded to latest 8.2 and tried starting fresh and also via restore, both not working. Phone has never been jailbroken or unlocked/hacked in any way.

Anyone know how to fix this? I wonder if Sprint customers still on Sprint are now not able to connect to Sprint as well? @acadiel were you able to fix this issue, or is this a one-way ticket to GSM only as you previously posted?

Nope, restored it and everything. My guess is that Sprint has the "international unlock" done incorrectly in their side (activation policy), which lets you unlock it for domestic use, but somehow neuters the CDMA side.

I halfway wonder if I brought it into a Sprint store and they "brought it back into their system" if it would put the correct activation policy on the phone and let it be able to be activated again.

It´s true, I´m a victim!

100% True, I've consulted with some unlockers in the industry.

Not all Verizon iPhones are fully unlocked. They comply with FCC and unlock them for domestic use, but try using them internationally and it says "Invalid SIM" the same message that a locked iPhone displays.

Verizon got new tricks up its sleeve. FCC agreement doesn't limit it locking against International use.

Find a Verizon iPhone 6/6+ with this policy: US GSM/VZW N61/N56 Service Policy = Unlock for Domestic Use but Locked for International Use -- your welcome to test one and share your findings.

I bought an Iphone 6 Verizon, got it to Mexico and no Sim card was working, so I started buying unlocking services for Verizon on EBay, but some notified me saying that it was now unlocked but in reallity it never was, so most refunded me, a few even knew about this policy and said that it could not be unlocked. Then I bought a few IMEI checker services and that´s where that policy N61/N56 came up, looked it up and many are still debating this but being a victim makes it real.

Been gone from this thread for a while but I have some new information:
Unlocking a Sprint 4s for domestic use will permanently kick it off the Sprint network, basically what happens is when the phone is unlocked the CDMA partition is wiped and no longer usable on Sprint. You can however use SIM cards from other CDMA networks such as Verizon, au, and China Telecom with an unlocked iPhone 4s from Sprint.

Also, for your phone to be considered unlocked it needs to have the following policy applied:

2303 - Multi-Mode Unlock
Device is a 4s, 5, 5c, 5s, 6, or 6 Plus that is both CDMA and GSM capable and has had both radios unlocked. It will work on GSM networks as well as CDMA networks that support BYOD such as Verizon.

If it has anything else applied and it's a Sprint device, it isn't unlocked, such as:

2174 - US Sprint/MVNO CSIM iPhone Locked Policy
Device is a 5c, 5s, 6, or 6 Plus locked to Sprint USA that requires a UICC with CSIM application to work on Sprint(basically CDMA equivalent of GSM SIM cards).

2175 - US Sprint/MVNO CSIM US Blocked Policy
Device is a 5c, 5s, 6, or 6 Plus that has been unlocked for international use only by Sprint. It also requires a UICC with CSIM application to work on Sprint(basically CDMA equivalent of GSM SIM cards).

2182 - US Sprint N42 Locked Activation Policy
Device is an iPhone 5 locked to Sprint USA.

2183 - US Sprint N42 Unlocked Activation Policy
Device is an iPhone 5 that has been unlocked for international use only by Sprint.

2018 - US Sprint Multi-Mode Commercial
Device is an iPhone 4s that is locked to the Sprint USA network, it has also been manually programmed for Sprint's CDMA network without the need for a UICC card.

2008 - US Sprint Multi-Mode, UMTS Unlocked Except US SIM
Device is an iPhone 4s that has been unlocked for international use only by Sprint, it has also been manually programmed for Sprint's CDMA network without the the need for a UICC card.

Hi there,

Apologies for for the newb question, but skimmed through about 5 of the 20 pages of this thread and couldn't find an answer: I'm looking at getting a used iPhone 6 or 6plus on eBay, and see some sprint models going for a bit of a discount. I would like to use the phone on my existing ATT contract and do not have a sprint contract. Given this, will Sprint unlock the iphone?

Thanks in advance,
Eric

As long as it isn't active on an account or reported stolen, you should have no problem getting it unlocked.

Great information here. Thanks.

Question....Trying to get Sprint 4s unlocked for use with domestic GSM. According to updated first post, asking for International unlock with INACTIVE phone "MAY" result in domestic unlock as well. Now you are stating above that if that's true, then it's kicked off the Sprint network. So I imagine Sprint does not want this to happen so they fixed the mistake of unintentional domestic unlock?

Also, should I port out from Sprint first, making 4s phone inactive or should I continue my sprint service and activate my old Sprint phone, making 4s inactive but still a Sprint customer? I'm worried Sprint won't be of any help when asking for unlock without an active account.

If all else fails, I may try r-sim Pro interposer with Cricket sim.

Any suggestions?

You don't need to be a customer of Sprint anymore for DSU, I've literally called Sprint International 300 times in the past month to get devices unlocked and all I had to was give them the IMEI and my email address, they didn't even ask if I was a customer.

If I were you, I'd switch your account to an old phone and call Sprint International and ask for an unlock once your phone becomes inactive. Don't specify if you want to unlock for intl' or domestic use, just say you want it unlocked. If your Sprint 4s has received DSU successfully, it will say No SIM in the upper left hand corner if there's no SIM card installed, unlike before when you would have constant access to CDMA even without a SIM which thus makes reactivation on Sprint impossible as the phone no longer has the Sprint .PRL needed to be able to connect to the network.

You can't use it on Sprint anymore as the DSU wiped the Sprint CDMA provisioning info off the motherboard. I believe that a few CDMA networks that use CSIM will work with an unlocked Sprint 4s, but don't quote me on that.

Also trying to activate with the Sprint 4s SIM is useless, nothing pertaining to accessing the domestic Sprint CDMA network is stored on that card, it's just used for international GSM roaming.

I guess it could be possible for Sprint to pair a LTE UICC card to a iPhone 4s like they do with newer iPhones, but I doubt their system is set up to allow that.

Harrison I tried what you said today and called Sprint International but they asked me for not only the IMEI number but Previous Owner Info as well. Did they ask you this and if so what did you tell them? They wanted previous owners account pin which of course I do not have. They said sorry can't do it.

Thanks

Make sure to say the device is inactive, if they still won't do it, hang up and call back so you'll get a different rep.

Some of the reps are pricks, some aren't. Don't bother trying to argue with them about it.

I did exactly that called numerous times but to no success. I get the same answer from all the reps as they are quoting a updated unlock policy and here is what one told me that may be the explanation as apparently something has changed recently and now they are requiring previous owners account information. Here is the conversation we had on chat as I tried that route also.

Wilguens J.: To protect the personal and account information the device was previously active on, I need to take a moment and request some security information before I can process your request. Could you please provide me with the 6-10 digit PIN on the account?

me: I bought the phone online so I do not have that information

Wilguens J.: Unfortunately, due to recent policy changes that just took effect, I am unable to send in a request to have your phone unlock. We can only unlock devices for customers and for non customers who can authenticate the Sprint account that the phone comes from. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

Wilguens J.: You will need to contact the previous owner to have them contact us to have the phone unlocked. I do apologize if this is not convenient for you.

Wilguens J.: Thank you for contacting Sprint eChat. It has been my pleasure assisting you. Have a great day.

So it looks like they may unlock the their phones but only for current Sprint customers or those that can provide previous owners account information including the account Pin which everyone I spoke to asked for. :(
Looks like the door was open the last 30 days or so but now closed for unlocking unless you are Sprint customer as they have changed their policy. Also everyone of the reps I spoke to said to me "so you want to unlock the phone for International use" and I said I just want it unlocked but they emphasized that it would be only for International usage.

Has anyone else had similar experience in dealing with Sprint International in the last day or so?
Have you been able to unlock anymore phones in the past day or so Harrison?

I just had Sprint submit an unlock request for a iPhone 5s that was reported stolen and a iPhone 6 Plus that's still in contract an hour ago. I called, gave them the IMEI, my name, and my email, and they submitted it without a problem.
Literally dude the only thing I can say is keep trying, eventually you'll get a rep who isn't an *******.

I'd recommend calling Sprint INTERNATIONAL at 888-226-7212 to get your device unlocked. Non-international tier 1 customer support are a bunch of downers.

So your just asking for the to unlock it and nothing else? Are you currently a Sprint customer?

That is the number i have been calling and just keep hitting the same thing....sorry but we need to authenticate the previous owners... bla bla bla

Tell me exactly what you are saying and I will try again, maybe you got the right lingo or something lol.....very frustrating so far.

PS: Have you tried any other phones like Samsung Galaxy or ?

Yes I am currently a Sprint customer.

What I do is call the number and state I want to get an inactive device unlock. The rep then asks for the IMEI and info and sends it off.

If you want, I'll try to see if Sprint will unlock it, PM me the IMEI.

To anyone else in this thread, only Toyotatim is going to receive my help with unlocking their device, please don't ask me for help in unlocking your device.

I am also trying to get my 2 Sprint iPhone 4s to unlock. I was a previous Sprint customer. I called Sprint International a few times and asked for device unlock for inactive device unlock. This last call, the rep said she submitted a request to their back office for unlock and it would take from a couple days to a week to process.

Is this the correct type of unlock?

Yes.

----------

For the record, Sprint just unlocked a iPhone 5s for me that was reported stolen and blacklisted. LOL

Thank you HarrisonTaylor for this info! Sprint just unlocked my 2 iPhone 4S's, and I am now able to use them on T-Mobile network!
