Isn't this the week the patch should be released?

Never thought I would be so eager to see a statistics software patch (makes me sound like a real geek)!

Yes it is! Oh, don't worry, you are not alone.... logged into SPSS thrice today, not that they will not send me a message. :)

SPSS 11.0.4 to work with Tiger is now supposed to come out this week (first week of August)

Great news! Did you see this on SPSS's support page?

Current testing of the SPSS 11.0.4 for Mac OS X (Tiger) patch has revealed issues that need to be addressed before SPSS 11.0.4 for Mac OS X can be released. We anticipate these issues to be resolved quickly and licensed users should be able to download the updated SPSS 11.0.4 for Mac OS X patch from our web site by the first week of August.

We apologize for this delay, but feel it is absolutely necessary to ensure the high quality of this release and to minimize the possibility of any users encountering problems in SPSS 11.0.4 for Mac OS X.

"Encountering any problems in SPSS for Mac OS X".....yea, maybe you should have been testing it LAST YEAR when they announced 10.4

I emailed asking why the patch hasn't been released today (Friday).

They emailed back with a smart aleck comment that the first week in August doesn't end until Monday, August 8th.

Since when do business weeks (or 7 day weeks, period) end on a Monday??

They have discreetly changed the message on the support site to the end of August

I suggest everyone writing them an email asking why this wasn't done in the last year that every developer knew about Tiger.

i am so angry with them, they are the most stupid company in the world, the spss guys i mean!!!! they give me inpolite anwers!!!

damn them!

I'm sorry you're having trouble. Clearly, the rest of us have been waiting for some time also, to get a Tiger patch. But, ahem, do you think, perhaps, if you used less exclamation points and profanity, and more proper punctuation and capitalization, that they might respond more positively?

yes mkrishnan, you are right, there is no use to be unpolite. but ofcourse i didn't write them an unpolite mail. first i called the spss office to ask if there is going to be a patch for tiger, they answered me, that they are working on it, and can't say how long it will take, this was in may!
and now they still don't do anything. isn't this crazy? it is really annoying. i have to boot my computer from the external hd with panther, to use spss.
but sorry for my rudness.

Since I have a GradPack license, I still have to contact them and get them to tell me how to get the patch, which hopefully they will do.

Well, I'm glad they finally released it. And I will indeed remember to send them a nice note as soon as I see it actually run on my computer. ;)

I have the Grad Pack as well and just requested the patch be sent out to me. I also downloaded the patch from the SPSS website and it works fine with the Grad Pack.

However, the customer service agent told me not to use the patch available for download on their website with the Grad Pack. But, I've been running analyses all day with no problems. I'll probably do a complete reinstall once I get the patch on disc just to be safe, though.

Thanks! :) I suspected the same. Silly gits. :p I started downloading it on that suspicion, and forgot to resume the download when I came home. So thank you for reminding me! :D

The downloadable upgrader worked just fine for me, as well. :)

By the way, did anyone else notice that there's a tab in the about SPSS box that indicates that MacKiev is responsible for the OS X port? I don't remember that being there before. MacKiev acts as an outsourced porting company. They also did the Mac Printshop Pro, I believe, which came up in another thread here....

Interesting....

Anyway, if they hired a porting company, I wish they would hire them to port 13.0.

But it probably explains the delays....

I will still definitely send them a thank you note for finishing the patch.

well said

Well said, Mohan. Supporting SPSS in their service to Mac users can only help.

I think that they've been using MacKiev for a while now--I seem to remember MacKiev being involved in one of the very first ports to OS X.

Completely agree that it would be great if they ported the latest version, but for now I'm still very happy that I can finally use my G5, instead of my trusty and rusty old G4 laptop. . .

BTW, has anyone noticed a repeat of the old dual-processor bug, in which SPSS would crash if you tried to run more than a few lines of syntax?

On DP macs only? I haven't tried to execute syntax yet. I will give it a try though, and tell you if I get a crash! :D

I just ran on few syntaxes (logregressions and MVA; n=3859) on a iMac G5 2.0 Ghz 1024 DDR but it seems to run smoothly. Nothing compared to a P4 3.0 Ghz though, but this should keep me happy for a while :)

crashes on dual processors

Sorry to be ambiguous: Yes, I meant that, in the pre-Tiger version, SPSS routinely crashed on my dual processor G5 when I tried to run more than a few lines of syntax.

On my pokey old G4 Powerbook, I could run 200 pages of syntax (many thousands of lines) at a time, without a crash. However, my dual processor G5, even with 3 GB of RAM, would crash if I tried more than a few lines. I haven't tried any long syntax runs yet.

Keeping my fingers crossed. . .
