I'm looking to come across them I want to filter them out ahead of time. They made a corporate decision that is anti customer so I want nothing to do with them.

There is nothing anti-customer about developing an app and being able to pay your coders. This is the most hair-brained comment I've heard -- or perhaps you can educate me why it's anti-consumer? You still have a choice -- just don't buy their app! But don't cry and say they're "anti-customer".

Do you expect to walk in a barber shop and get a haircut for free? After all, they're taking away your hair, not growing it?

And as the guy said -- they let their customers know if it'll run or not. I think they've done their due diligence.

These folks paid for the app and the guy I was referring to just block people who pay..

I get it, as I've stated many times! Not all Jailbreakers pirate. There are loads of advantages to jail breaking. I own a jailbroken iPod touch.

But I believe most people who jailbreak pirate their apps on that device.

Damn people love twisting my argument here.

You all believe most Jailbreakers don't pirate apps? Great but I disagree.
Just to add -- most pirates also don't know what they're giving away in return for 'free' apps. How easy would it be to inject malware into one of those free apps? I'd rather pay 0.99 for peace-of-mind and updates that don't make me wait an hour to download than to tediously wait for those updates to be cracked and god-knows that they're the original...

I can agree with this.

What I can't agree with is you all automatically assuming all jailbreakers are pirates. In the end, moves such as this only punish their paying customers. All the pirates have to do is wait a day for the newest crack to come down the line, and they're playing their illegally obtained software trouble free.

As long as they've clearly stated it, then they have every right to do so. That's why one should be careful what they buy (and I'm sure you're doing just that).

He also gave a good reason for why they had to do what they had to do -- most people were ripping their software. They don't make money that way. If someone felt an app doesn't work anymore because they've jailbroken their device, then they can find another app. That's the trade-off for jailbreaking (amongst other things).

Think of it another way: suppose your main livelihood was making apps to sell and you wanted to sell an app but the store told you no, it has to be given out for free to everyone -- would you bother?

People are ripping off their software now they just don't realize it..

I asked for the name of the company that is anti-consumer by having to have my device a particular way or you won't sell it you're being and consumer. If you disagree that's fine but I really don't care, I'm just asking for the name of the company so it can go on my list. They made a corporate decision I've made a big boy decision to not do business with people that attempt to control.

I'm not assuming that at all. I used to do it, hence I know how tedious it was. And I only did it because back in Thailand (back then) they didn't have the AppStore. So don't assume that I assume ; )

Square Enix was the one assuming all JBers are pirates. Me? After the AppStore appeared in Thailand I spent over $200 buying the original apps I had, and those that I didn't need/want I didn't buy and didn't leave on my device either. I also did this because I actually PAID for one of those stupid "download these cracks quicker than non-payers" things and the download rate was all the same anyways... that's when I realised "Why don't I just PAY for the original?"

And guess what? I still JB'ed my phone afterwards -- so I could purchase Cydia apps like iBlacklist and MyWi... and I was Installous-free ever since. I even got my in-laws and students to turn away from Installous and just buy the apps (or I bought it for them) mainly because I was concerned about the potential hazards and hidden nasties cracked apps could have.

Perfectly understandable, but not all these developers work for large corporations. If we were talking EA and Square Enix, by all means, have at them -- but surely you would understand the situation of a small business just trying to make ends meet.

This may be an unpopular post, but I support SE in their attempt to reduce piracy. Yes, it was using a blunt object to try to accomplish a very specific objective. But I have to sympathize with companies who put time, money and effort into a product just to see huge numbers of people steal it.

I don't buy the argument you make that "huge numbers" are stealing SE stuff.

As someone who actually buys games for my iOS devices AND jailbreaks, I think this is just going to provoke people to resort to piracy rather than paying for it. That's the feeling I've been getting from most people.

Could be a PR stunt too where they "accidentally" implemented this and, successfully, got a whole lot of online media attention. Doubt I would have heard much of this game otherwise.

Yeah, thanks Enix, for assuming everyone with a jail broken iPhone is a thief. I'll make sure to avoid all your games in the future.

Actually to be honest, All Square-Enix games are priced ridiculously, and for the price you pay you don't get the quality and updates you would expect. For example -- Chaos Rings. I think I paid $14 for it -- the most I had to pay for ANY game, and yet to this day they have not updated the graphics for Retina, nor the iPhone 5 wide-screen resolution. I felt HORRIBLY CHEATED with that, especially since smaller companies have all done theirs even before the iPhone 5 came out! They were ready and did their duty well towards their customers.

That is the difference between a greedy corporation like Square Enix and the smaller companies that deserve more than the little they charge for.

Since then, I've never gotten another Square Enix game again. CAPCOM is the same. These two corporations, for their size, provide the worst support and disregard for their customers. I'm rooting for the indies. Square Enix can go bankrupt and I hope they do for being such greedy pricks. Unfortunately that means their coders will suffer coz they are probably paid peanuts whilst the suits upstairs reap all the benefits.

I don't care if their a small business trying to make ends meet. If you decide that I can't purchase your software because of the status of my phone then we don't need to do business.

What you're saying is exactly what the company is already saying. Here's the thing, you can't just sit down and be annoyed at the company, unfortunately many people have ruined it for anyone who's trying to do the right thing. While I don't particularly like being punished for the actions of a few, the blame needs to go towards the people who are ruining it for everyone else.
Companies and Developers have to make a decision, either continue to allow pirating or find a way to stop it. Square Enix made a choice as they saw fit and to be honest about it people really shouldn't blame them...unless you have a better solution to the problem? If so, please post it.
Is this particular game so important or are some people here just looking for something to argue about to fulfill the missing link in their weekend?

I can understand a game company doing this. They are wrong, since thieves will always find a way. As stated by others, this only hurts their legitimate customers. Just like those damn piracy notices on DVDs, BDs.

You want a company that's a joke for doing this? Try Tivo. Their app allows for playback of your DVRed shows (from your own Tivo) on an iDevice, anywhere, similar to Slingbox. Anyway, they block playback on JBed devices. Why is beyond me, you can't even use this feature of the app unless you've already bought a Tivo DVR and a Tivo Stream, which is basically a 2nd DVR (another lovely little price gouge for no serious reason). After spending $250-1000 on their hardware and a monthly charge to use it, NOW they think a person is going to pirate...what? Of course, xcon works just fine for the Tivo app, I believe.

But you're the one that keeps offering that *opinion* as some kind of fact. And then when someone asks for some stats, you just repeat the same argument. We get it, you think the majority off jail breakers are pirates. That is your opinion and people are allowed to offer their counter-evidence all they want. Now tell us again how you think the majority pirates.

I keep reassuring myself because I keep being told my facts are wrong when all I ever offered was my opinion.

It's foolish to assume ALL jailbreakers are pirates.

But equally foolish to assume the majority are not.

(That is my opinion. Not a fact)

I'm not mad. They made a decision, and so have I it's really simple.

Such a dick move.

Similar to when LoveFilm decided to block streaming on jailbroken devices. Not sure it was even possible to use the app without a proper registered account so what was the problem!?

Cancelled that subscription and went Netflix. No regrets.

That is a very true thing. It is similar to people who use/used Custom Firmware on the PSP. A lot of them were pirates, but there were other things you could do with that software and some people didn't. I mean, you don't even HAVE to have your device jailbroken to pirate some games. There are some emulators that work without jailbreaking. They have flaws with audio synching, but they are still there.

I know a lot of features are opened up with Jailbreaking. I have never jailbroken my iDevices before but I do know that you have to pay for many of the apps on it's version of the app store.

All in all, Square Enix made a decision. They wanted to try to halt pirates. They regretted the decision, for whatever reason, and they took it back. Be happy that they took the decision back, and be left to ponder what their next move or attempt will be to try to keep people from pirating software.

No, they didn't make a decision that was anti-customer. They made one that would allow them to continue a majority of their customers. Their app(s) apparently do some form of callback or use of servers - so as you saw, he was able to go and have stats. Going from a 1:30 to a 1:4 sales:cracked ratio is huge.
I'm not mad. They made a decision, and so have I it's really simple.

And apparently you are too lazy to go the few clicks yourself to find out the info you seek, but can still type out over and over on the forum the request to him for that info.

Total waste of time and money trying to play a decent PC game on a touch based device. I'll wait till the actual PC version is released. I can see why they would want to milk the mobile device world for as much money as they can get though. I just hope this is not indicative of the future of gaming. Playing FPS games on tablets sux big time.

Assuming it gets released on the PC at all. They may just keep it as a mobile exclusive, like Chaos Rings and FF Dimensions.

And despite steam's success with drm (when it's actually used by an external publisher), dross like this is still created. When EA, ubisoft, adobe etc. continue to push their ridiculous solutions, it is quite simply themselves and the paying customer that loses out.

As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, business models are the most effective way of reducing piracy. Any app can be and all high profile, locked down atrocities are quickly cracked - legitate customers wonder why they bothered and trudge through whatever system, limitations and quirks they're presented with while cracked copies are unencumbered.

you missed my point. but good try.

Aww, that's so cute, you think that anyone that actually wanted to pirate this game couldn't get around that! :)

Aww, it's so cute when someone incorrectly guesses at what I'm thinking.

Netflix for life.

nope I want to be told upfront by the guy who nothing. It should require no research. They're proud of it
