New Discount Codes

I've tried all the discount codes listed in this thread but they seem to be all expired. Does anyone know of any codes that I can use today?

The Square Trade 3 year warranty for a 16bg 3G iPhone is $192. Are you kidding me? This is way overpriced! Where did the OP get $76?

Seems that they have raised the price of the warranties. The original price for a three year warranty with accidental damage coverage was around $130. With the discount code that was in effect at the time the final price was around $90 for $499 of coverage (16GB).

I suspect they had to raise the price because they were experiencing a hgh volume of claims. I would try to find a coupon code, but even with one I would have to rethink getting a warranty for the price they are asking now, I would also only get a two year warranty to cover the length of the AT&T contract.

That is definitely what happened. With coupon codes back in July I got 3 years with ADH for $62.

Last month when I purchased an iPhone for my wife, it was $100 for 2 years and ADH. Guess it was too good to be true after all. Didn't take them long to start jacking things up

Well since Square Trade is no longer an inexpensive extended warranty, I guess I have no choice but to get the applecare warranty.

It's not as inexpensive as it used to be, but it's still not a bad price at all - that's only $60 per year - $5 per month - for any kind of accidental damage.

I just went back to re-read the coverage details - there's a $50 deductible for any accident claims, which still isn't bad...it's better than paying for a new phone.

I'll be the first to say that I like Applecare - I bought it on my Mac Pro. But for something like a cellphone that has the potential for being damaged, I don't want Applecare because they won't help you if you have an accident.

And Best Buy's plan (slightly better than Squaretrade, since they don't charge a deductible) is THREE times as expensive, so that's not a cost-effective option.

Can't wait to get my first iPhone tomorrow! (I'm finally eligible for the upgrade pricing! :D)

$192 for a 3 year plan to cover a 16GB iPhone IS expensive. That is just a tab more than half the cost of what I paid for the phone! I will pass on them if there are no more discount codes. I take good care of my stuff, am very careful and have never needed an extended warranty before on my hand held electronics. So I doubt I really need one, I was just interested because with discount codes the price was right. Even if I did a 2 year plan at $144, that is to much in my opinion.

I'm just getting the 8 gig model and 2 year plan, so $120 really isn't that bad.

If you think of it as a "per month" thing, it usually isn't so bad - think of it as a "peace of mind" cost :)

And remember, AT&T has the same kind of plan (did you say it covered accidents though?) for $5 a month, but their plan doesn't cover iPhones...

When the 8GB iPhone costs only $199, then yes $120 is not a good deal.

Sugar coat the end cost all you want, it is still a gouging. Consumers should never look at the cost per month but should look at what the total cost is.

Extended warranties are pure profit for the selling company, because rarely do they have to pay out. Even for this accidental coverage, most people still take care of their stuff. Although if the price was under $100, I would bite.

Thanks!

Looks like though that Square Trade does not cover theft of the iPhone. Or lets say I am out fishing, lose my iPhone in the ocean and can't recover it?

Anyone know why the Square Trade check out page for the iPhone has a box at the bottom checked if you want accidental handling damage insurance for $72. I know I can uncheck it but wonder why it is there, I thought this was already included in their iPhone warranty?

I ended up getting the Squaretrade warranty (ADH) and was able to use the January20 code for 20% off, so it cost $96 to cover me for 2 full years. If something happens, at least I know I won't need to pay $399 for a new phone, and that's worth the peace of mind.

You could have used the SUPERBOWL code to get 35% off, it is good until Feb 1st.

I can't seem to be able to pull the trigger on this warranty for our 2 16GB iPhones. I get very close but can't quite do it. I have only bought one extended warranty in my entire life and didn't even have to use it. Maybe I have just been lucky with products, I don't know but it seems like I never needed these.

I know I can get $50 off each, for the Square Trade 2 year warranty for our iPhones. But even at that discounted price it seems a bit expensive to me, $94 for each iPhone. I know you can break the price down to a per month perspective but, I tend to look at the overall price on things. The iPhone 16GB cost us $299 each, plus the $94 extended warranty. If we drop and damage the phone then add the $50 deductible. Now we are talking about $443 not counting the taxes or the AT&T initial contract start fees, since we have 2 iPhones that's $886. And we still have the monthly AT&T charges to contend with!

On the other hand I certainly am using my iPhone more than any cell phone I have ever owned. I can't seem to unglue it from my hands. So there is a greater chance of it being dropped and damaged, even with the OtterBox Defender case protecting it. And since $299 is the subsidized price to replace them due to damage, it would cost us $499 each.

The extended warranty is only a good move if something bad happens to our iPhones.

We have got to make a choice before the 35% discount code expires, which is in a few days.

Decisions.....decisions.

After thinking about it long and hard, we are not going to buy a Square Trade extended warranty/accidental insurance policy. Since we have never broken any cell phone we have ever owned in the past, we feel the odds of us breaking our iPhones is slim. Granted we have never paid this much for a cell phone, but still we are very careful with our stuff.

I don't think the current 35% off the regular Square Trade price is enough to spark our interest. If something better comes along prior to our 30 days being up, then we might consider it. For now though, we are going to pass on the extended warranty/accidental insurance and feel our OtterBox Defender cases will provide very good protection from drops.

All we need is to do is keep them two years and then we will upgrade to next iPhone anyway.

the best insurance company.... yourself

I don't think the current 35% off the regular Square Trade price is enough to spark our interest. .

I agree whole-heartedly. The real downside to this insurance is the fact that you have to send in the iPhone to make a claim. This doesn't cover nearly 50% of the reasons why I would buy insurance. Lost and stolen.

I understand that these insurance companies have this requirement for two reasons: 1) to reduce the amount of claims that are made; and 2) to reduce fraud. The former is a legitimate reason from the insurance company's standpoint (although it sucks for consumers). The latter is what I find appalling. There is a word for people who make fraudulent claims: criminals. These people should be tried and convicted. It sucks that they ruin everything for those of us who would never resort to fraud to get a new phone.

For that reason alone, I will never buy phone insurance that doesn't cover situations in which the phone gets lost or stolen. Similarly, I will never pay extra for this type of coverage, which is why I probably will never find an insurance company that will offer these terms.

In conclusion, I will insure my phone myself. It will be insured against accidental damage, theft, if it gets lost, and if the technology gets updated (June '09?). All for the low, low price of $0/month and $499 or $599 deductible.

Square Trade policy is not an insurance for theft or loss anyway, it is an accident/extended warranty policy. If a theft of my iPhone happened from my car, it would be covered by my auto policy. If from my in house, then by my home insurance policy.

Accident insurance is a good idea but it should cost much less than what Square Trade charges. I think they started out with a good idea with low prices but eventually did what everyone else did, raised their prices. That lost my interest.

Keep in mind that you can cancel the policy and get a prorated refund. If you are on the fence about it you can always get it now and then cancel later.

Personally I wouldn't go without it. You just have to use a coupon to get the best price.

Unfortunately there are no good prices using a coupon. The best I found was 35% off which brought the price for a 16GB 2 year policy down to $94, that is stiff to much money. My iPhone cost me $299, Square Trade is charging me 1/3 my phone cost. Seriously?

My son's iPhone started acting all weird and I've assumed it was damage to the extension card at the bottom of the phone since all the symptoms fit. So I took it to Apple to see what it would take to get it repaired. The "genius" wanted his iTunes account, did some typing, proclaimed it was water damage (the kid doesn't get anywhere near water, ever) and that was that. No matter what else I asked or stated, all he said was "Sorry, it's 399 for a new one". Well f__k Apple then, back home I went where I dug out the SquareTrade paperwork, hit their site and starting going thru the motions of filing a claim to get it replaced. But no, according to SquareTrade it's Apple's problem, nevermind that Apple apparently won't touch it. And that was the end of it with SquareTrade, too. Seeing how there's still 18 months of AT&T contract to go, I ended up replacing the iPhone with a Tilt and tossed the iPhone. Nice job all around, fellas, you got me good. Enjoy.
