Great thread here. I signed up at $499 for my 16 gig the other day and already passed the info along to a friend who signed up as well. I hope this warranty is as good as it seems.

Just a heads up, looks like the 50% off deal is over.

Yup. I got a 30% deal to work and that was the best I could get. I tried 50% and then a 40% code that I found and they applied the discount until you got to checkout. At checkout it told you that the discount codes are no longer valid. The 30% code that I got to work was FRIENDS30

EDIT: Oops...quoted post was changed.

50% off is still working.

What's the code that works? When I tried the latest 50% off code a few weeks back it wouldn't work. it looked like it was going to work but when you actually check out it tells you that the code is expired.

I tried the fiftyoff coupon code and it didn't work either, I went ahead and did the FRIENDS30 to save the 30% and it brought my cost down to $55.99 for 3 years for a 16 gig 3G.

I just did the 2 year and added accident/spill protection so mine was something like $76. I've had accidents with my last two phones so I decided it was worth it for this one.

I'm glad you posted this, I went back to add that and they told me I couldn't because I purchased my phone 34 days ago. So I just canceled the service. I did want to add the accident coverage but now I know I'll just need to be careful.
I appreciate the post because you saved me some money though.

Ah..that stinks that you were beyond the 30 days though.

i dont see the point of getting the warranty as most of us here are iphone fanatical enough to join a forum which constantly discusses the iphone..i doubt anyone here will keep their current iphone after a new one is released...which will be well sooner than 3 years from now.

ok so i didnt read this whole thread because i dont have time to right now, but i have a question....

I have a white 16gig 3G..insured it for 699 through squaretrade..I've read a few posts saying people had this on their iPhones before and had to get replacements..How does it work? Do they automatically have a brand new iPhone sent to you? Do they give you cash? or put the $699 in my case on my card i used with squaretrade? I have accidental protection by the way..

I have no idea how this works and I just wanted to know. Thanks a lot.

They PayPal you the funds. $699 is overinsured because they will only give you the replacement value which is $499 (or less if the price drops).

Then you presume too much.
I got a 2 year warranty. I will keep this phone for at least the two years of my AT&T contract.

Either way though it still isn't pointless...you have accident protection so if you bust your phone 3 months down the road they give you the money to buy a new one.

I don't get how it's underinsured..199/299 new plans..399/499 early upgrade but 2 years signed again..599/699 for just the device..I got a 16 gig so let's say my screen cracks and I want a new phone, they should send me the 699 to buy a new device no? Or at least get a new device sent to me without having to sign a new contract..I'm not 100% sure cuz it doesn't explain this on the site..

The contract for my 16GB 3G says that they will reimburse me $499 - $50 deductible IF it's an accident or spill.

Still FIFTYOFF. It's good til December 31st 2008.

That's pretty retarded..so ur getting 499, meaning if you buy an iPhone for 499 you must still sign a new 2 year contract no?

I don't know. Where is that info coming from about signing the new 2 year contract? Squaretrade claims that $499 is replacement cost.

The ST warranties are transferable, so if you sell your iPhone later (so many 1st-gen users did), you can sell it along with your phone, garnering higher interest/price.

Has anyone had to actually use the warranty? I see that a lot of people purchasing the protection but haven't heard of anyone collecting.

They also have a very high rating at resellerratings.com. It's not easy to get the rating there that they have.

I have a question regarding my squaretrade warranty. I purchased the squaretrade warranty immediately after buying my 8GB iphone 3g. This evening I scheduled a Genius bar appointment at an apple store because my volume down button was inconsistent. The genius replaced my phone on the spot.

What am I supposed to do with my squaretrade warranty? Does it transfer to my new phone? The serial numbers are different. I was under the impression that you could transfer the squaretrade warranty to a manufacturer replaced item.

On their website it says the following:

"If the manufacturer replaces or repairs your item, your SquareTrade Care Plan will cover your manufacturer repaired or replaced item."

Has anyone successfully done this?

thanks,

Jeff

First Generation Used iPhone Warranty

I just purchased a used, unlocked and jailbroken first gen. iPhone on Ebay.

Square Trade offers one year full replacement coverage on this with a discount and a 50% discount on a second year of coverage. Coverage begins on the 61st day.

No accidental drop, drip coverage.

Anyone done this? I'm not familiar with the reliability of the iPhone, so have no idea if the coverage is worth its price (about $33.00).

Jeff
