hello all,

[i don't post often... have been leisurely lurking for the past 2-3 years]...

if i could offer some input into the situation....

i had a 2.16 c2d that i got as a replacement for a 1.83. when the c2d started acting up, i was frustrated--but somehwat pleased, in knowing that my replacement would be a 2.2 sr mbp.

now, on the same day my replacement shipped coincidentally my girlfriend's brand new 'exactly similar' sr mbp shipped.

once they arrived, because i hadnt returned my mbp yet, (with the replacement team, if you ask, they will always let you opt for them shipping out the replacement mbp first, and you then shipping your old one back... they send you forms they call 'legals' or legal papers) i was able to stand my old c2d 2.2 (which was perfect except for a warped case and a lame airport card) and the new sr beside each other. this was in the middle of the 'yellow tint madness', and immediately i considered myself one of the many with this 'problem'.

i believe what this thread covers, are three completely different issues. one, being the bottom third of the screen is affected. second, being the whole screen suffers from a 'yellowy tint', and lastly-- there are people who are comparing the new screens to older ones--they ARE DIFFERENT SCREENS, the blues arent as blue, the colours just seem 'different', alot warmer when comparing a 2.16 c2d with a led sr.

in comparing side by side my girlfriends matte LG sr mbp, my matte SAMSUNG sr mbp and my old c2d mbp, what i have realized is that what first i perceived as an 'all over yellowy tint', is simply the 'style' of the new screen...

does this make sense?

Yes, perfectly - as you say it is a different type of screen. Can we assume you don't see it as a fault, but simply a 'feature' of the new display?

You sir have completely ignored the 4th and most important issue.

See previous post.

I have a 15" 2.2GHz MBP built last week with a samsung glossy screen (which is just beautiful to look at) and the machine is absolutely perfect. A definite step up from all the problems I had with my first revision MBP. No sign of yellow tint whatsoever and the machine's build is definitely better. Perhaps Apple has been adressing this issue on the latest batches?
Good to hear... My CTO glossy replacement just got built this weekend and shipped out last night. Hoping for no yellow this time! :)

Even more disturbing than this YELLOW TINT issue is of course the BLACK HELICOPTER issue...
Whew! Good thing I like black helicopters. Yellow tint however... :D

Also, equally worryingly, I believe I can see a faint reddish tinge to the sides of your computer. You should return it.

I dunno about you guys, but when I turn my macbook pro on its front with the display open so it kind of forms an upside down V on my desk then look through it from the side I see black helicopters hovering ominously over my hosue.

I believe this image below shows very well what I am talking about and I am quite sure that the community here will acknowledge that this is a major problem with Apple's Macbook Pro line and I hope that there will be some sort of firmware upgrade to solve this problem.

If anyone needs help locating what I am talking about, you just need to look more carefully and I am sure you will see the helicopter.

Edit:
I have just figured out a way to temporarily stop this issue from occuring with my MBP. I have created my first Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanie which is being modelled by best and only friend Leonardo Da Vinci depicted below.

Reason you are reacting so weird is that some people claim to have a problem because the see yellowish when looking from the side or top of the screen. This is NOT the yellowish issue!

The yellowish issue is looks like a band, only at the bottom of the screen when looking straight to the screen (so NOT from an angle).

The pictures (showing yellowish from the side) posted in the forum need to be removed, because they don't show the real yellowish issue.

Hello
I was wondering if it's an issue.

When I view my laptop straight on, it is perfect. As in, the white is white, the light blue is light blue (I'm talking about this forum :) )

but then if I tilt the computer, it's starting to get...yellow.
Is it a problem or what?

or is it just an LED screen issue? Since the new Dell computers are using LED screens too, do they have the yellowing screens?

I'll post a pic up soon

Don't post a pic up. That is normal. It's been covered so much over the last few pages. The LED screens have a limited viewing angle, which is why they turn yellow.

The yellow problem is when people see yellow at the bottom of the screen when looking at it straight on.

Weird says you, unsatisfied customer says I.

I paid 311,630.495 Ruppees for this goddamn laptop and i am having to deal with this crap day in and day out.

THANK GOD the rotors are completely silent at least. Otherwise I would never get any sleep!

For the last time, the issue is not a yellow tint from viewing the screen at extreme angles. Thats a limitation of all the LED screens seen so far.

The issue is a yellowish tint/hue on the lower 1/3 of the screen when viewed straight on in normal use. Normally its only noticable on white backgrounds, eg when browsing webpages with a lot of white. But its still there and once noticed it is quite annoying.

EDIT: amitface got in there before me :p

I'm unsatisfied to... please read my post history...

I'm having the yellowish issue at 1/3 of the bottom by myself.

But saying the screen has a problem because it gets yellow when viewed from the side is making up a problem that does not exist. For a laptop screen that is simply normal, they call it "bad viewing angels".

Thank you for your clarification. Appreciate it :)

I had just 2 days left and to decide to either keep my mbp 2.4ghz or not and I decided to take it for another exchange but when I got there I saw the other mbp's on display and with that picture I found on this thread with the two squares, one on the top and one on the bottom I used to test all the mbp led's they had there.
It so happens that all the mbp's all had the yellowing problems on every single machines, the matte screens had 9c67 and the glossy had 9c68. So I found out that it does not matter which screen you have and they all exhibit the yellowing problem. Some worse and some not as bad but they all have it. I just picked up a new 23" acd for my mac pro and am going to wait until oct. for a new laptop, hopefully a new led macbook if not by then the yellowing issue should be resolved =)

I'm in the same boat. Two days left for me. I looked at previous post of yours and it looked like your present MBP had an LG display and was perfect. Did you change your mind?

the very first mbp I had the 2.2ghz was a samsung (bought it the first day they were released). That one had a horrible yellowish band on the bottom where the dock is and gradient breakage problems too. But this one I just returned was much better but clearly still yellow in the center. The weird part was that from the left corner to the middle on the bottom was yellowish and from the middle/bottom to the middle/center of the screen had a yellowish tint as well.
At this point at the store I was in a rush and checked every mbp led screen there, some were LG and some were Samsung screens. But they all had the yellow tint problem!!! Even the guy at the genius bar said oh man I didnt know these had these problems! and I think he was a lil peeved because looked to me he was trying to score one himself.. lol.~ My conclusion is that for all you you guys to wait, I tried for a week and a few days to really enjoy the laptop and not think about the yellow tint. But how can I not see it when its right in the middle bottom staring at you, once you shuffle your eyes back and forth reading webpages or other forums that's all you see. Some forums have grey or blue or light blue or especially white is very very frustrating and harsh on the eyes as well.
I encourage everyone that has not bought one today that if you use your mbp 80%-90% of the time to just view webpages YOU WILL NOTICE THIS YELLOWISH TINT. But if you use it mostly to watch just movies or just hook it up to an external monitor then it should be ok. But in my opinion there should not be this yellow tint and I believe that there will be a fixed version in a couple of months. I say that these rev. A's are good but not that good and just to wait it out until oct. that's the real plan people~
oh and I saw the 17" mbp with the high def. screen and even though with all the bright lights in the store it looked on par with the new led screens and was very nice on the eyes and no yellowing at all. I almost went for it but decided that my next laptop should be a led and just wait until they fix this issue then i'm buying one in a heart beat =)

I took a look at the test images on page 14 again, and the bottom white box does look indeed darker then the top box. Its not very noticeable to me, but the yellow from different angles is very noticeable to me.

Exchanged my samsung matte week 24 for a LG matte week 26 today. LG has no yellowness on the bottom 1/3 like the samsung did. Anyone have a good color profile for LG matte? Thanks

How can you tell what week of manufacture it is?

Lol, people saying it just looks darker on the bottom tells me that they do not want to believe that flaw is as bad. But trust me clearly its the color yellow and try that square picture test again the 1/3 is not as bad as the earlier versions and sure your dock doesnt look completely yellow as to the top of the screen (I had that problem as well and been through 5 different mbp's all had lg except one samsung) but the yellow is clearly still there either somewhere on the corner bottom left and right in the middle~

Well, here's an update. I finally got a replacement for my old SR MBP. This new one is much much better. No yellowness toward the bottom but I kind of do see a small area toward the bottom that is a bit brighter. At first I thought it was bleeding but on an entire black image the screen doesn't appear to bleed. It doesn't bother me much and is mainly visible on the default wallpaper.

Overall, I'm much happier. For those who want to its a 15" 2.2 Glossy manufactured during the 24th week and has an LG screen.

Although completely unrelated from this thread, this new MBP does seem to take a longer to wake from sleep than my old one and out of the box the battery said it's been through 3 cycles (weird).
