I'm upgrading from an S5 SBSS to an S7. I'm looking to get the same look, but I see this year (and I believe it was the same with the S6), there is no Space Black option for Stainless Steel. Instead there is a Graphite one. Is the Graphite of the same color and also with the DLC coating as the old SBSS, and just a wording thing, or the color is actually different?

Thank you.

It's very different. But it does have the DLC coating. You can still get SBSS but only via Hermes.

The graphite is much lighter, basically a mid ground between SS and SBSS. It's quite nice, mind you. But it's not SBSS.

Ufff.. now it almost costs double if you still want SBSS. :(

This might help?

In brighter lighting the graphite can look almost silver, in very dark lighting it'd be close to the SBSS.

I'm on my 6th in a row Space Black Stainless Steel Apple Watch primarily because of the DLC coating which holds up incredibly well. DLC-Coated is just sort of my bag.

Can someone link to or reference exactly which watches this year have DLC coating?

Is it just these?

I will say, after looking through 6.5 years of Apple Watch orders in my Inbox (starting 4/1/2015), I have paid about $849 every year from series 1 to 6 for my watch so in that sense, the Space Black Titanium is in line with what I'm paying historically for the Stainless Steel so the price this year for Titanium and keeping DLC is tempting.

The fact that it works with my SBSS Link Bracelet I purchased in 2015 (that year, I paid $1099 for my watch for the series 0) is a good bonus.

Kind of amazed by the ship date already though.

Thank you, this is very helpful. I can barely tell which one is the Graphite one to be honest... They don't look very different to me. It's also interesting Apple doesn't advertise using DLC coating on that one but they do for the titanium one.

Has the DLC coating been confirmed on the graphite? With the AW6 they initially listed it as having the DLC, but most recent specs straight from Apple omit the DLC. Not sure if anything was updated with the 7. I had wanted to get the graphite but read too many posts and articles on it scratching.

Only the Ti SB is advertised as being DLC.

I saw them in person. The graphite is definitely a lighter shade than space black. If you put a space black link bracelet on a graphite watch, there is a clear contrast to the darkness of the metals. They both look good.

I have read conflicting reports of whether graphite is DLC or another coating that's less hard but still protective.

The graphite Series 6 I tried on in the Apple Store the other day which the salesperson said has been tried on many times by customers had no obvious scratches on it. So I assume the coating is providing good protection.

Don’t be too amazed by that ship date. I got up early when the website opened to get my order in this morning. I think I tried every combination of 45mm on and I haven’t seen one with an Oct delivery date. 41mm however did have Oct delivery dates. This whole S7 process is a mess. Placed my order at around 0810 (EDT) and got Nov 2-9. Graphite 45mm with midnight sport band.

photos are reduced in quality when posted here, so I think you really have to see it in person to see the difference ... S6 SS graphite did have DLC, I havn't checked the specs for the 7 but if they would have discontinued that, I wouldn't get it ...

It seems that the thread is right - even the space black stainless hermes is not advertised to be DLC.

If the only option for DLC is Titanium, I may be out this year. That finish scuffs quite easily, doesn't it?

Off Topic since there's another thread for this but YES.

1. No pricing in advance
2. No gallery / configurator in advance
3. No chance to ear-mark what I wanted
4. No launch day premium models
5. No in-store pickup options
6. No Space Black Stainless Steel w/o having to buy a $500 watch steam from Hermes
7. No clarity on what is DLC coated versus not

Apple clearly doesn't want our money this year. My S5 battery is fine and in warranty until January so I'm just going to wait.

I still use a SBSS series 2. Worn it nearly every day and it still looks pristine. Was looking to upgrade eventually but no SBSS option is holding me back. I may eventually succumb to the TiSB, but will look at it in store first.

I love my SB SS S4 so I hope it will return as a non-Hermes option for S8 (which is when I plan to upgrade) otherwise I will like go for SS Gold (which was my original plan for my S4 - ended up with SB because that is all the Apple Store had weeks into the launch) or SB Titanium (as I saw it when I was in to buy my Pride Braided Solo Loop).

Also having a hard time ordering without SBSS… (at reasonable price)

I think everyone should provide apple with feedback, that they want it back.

Damn it, i fell into the trap. Ordered a hermes for $1299 🙈
You will love the SBSS. The 45mm is my 3rd one and I can’t go back to silver after having SBSS. here is a pic of my SBSS Hermes Series 6 on my dark cherry braided band.
