Tried to hype myself up for the titanium version.. but just couldn’t.
SBSS is just so nice, because you barely see where the glass ends and body starts.
I did the last year when they got rid of SBSS on the standard model. Never loved it. SBSS>SBTi by a long shot

Exactly why I bought Space Black Stainless when I intended to get Gold.

Space Black Titanium looks better to me in person than it does in photos and artwork, but I still think I will go Gold Stainless for Series 8 if true Space Black remains a Hermes exclusive (just can't pay that much extra for a band I would seldom wear and a face I would never use).

Wow I didn’t know they locked SBSS behind the Hermes price tag this year. That is one of the lamest things Apple has done in their history of doing lame things. But who could call them out on it to make any difference?

Yeah I know they can charge whatever they want for any of their products. But every single other watch body style is available at the same price as it was last year.

it sort of seems like the series 7 is a fire sale of old stuff they had lying around the factory. the green watch is probably the product of old iPhone 11 Pro paint lol.

Can anyone confirm if the graphite has the dlc coating? I have the space black series 4 and it’s held up flawlessly until now, but reluctant to go for a finish on the series 7 that might be worse.

I believe it was the same last year for the s6 as well.

This is correct. Space Black became a Hermes exclusive for both Series 6 and 7 and was replaced with Graphite for the "regular" models.

Only the Ti SB is advertised as being DLC.

Look under "Finishes" in the Tech Specs section.

In other languages the graphite S6 was advertised as dlc coated and still is. The gold is pvd coated as advertised for S6. I remember the process gaining this dark color on graphite and space black (ss and ti) is the dlc coating. The coating applied on the stainless steel is what makes the steel darker. Same for titanium. Therefore it must still be dlc. This would also explain why the space black ss is commonly known to be more resistant to scratches as the graphite one - because the „stronger“ the coating, the darker the steel.

Maybe I’m all wrong. I am pretty sure it is like I said but I would feel better if Apple made an official statement.

Even the SBSS Hermes isn't advertised as DLC. Do you have the advertisements in other languages showing DLC as a spec?

Well it should be DLC as it appears to be the same coating as the Series 1 through Series 5 Space Black Stainless and all of those did note they were DLC in the Tech Specs.

Right - but for this year, they have not yet listed DLC as a material for SSSB

I am not sure that the Series 7 Hermès Space Black is the same as the "glossy" Space Black of earlier Space Black Stainless models (like my Series 4) as it looks distinctively more matte in the pictures - like the current Graphite Stainless option on the non-Hermès watches and Graphite is apparently a PVD coating (like Gold Stainless).

What makes you think the graphite watch is PVD instead of DLC?

Evidently folks found Apple technical documentation for the Graphite Milanese Loop that noted the coating was PVD though that does not necessarily mean the watch uses PVD, as well.

The Gold Stainless was confirmed back in Series 4 to use a PVD coating and yet they don't mention that anymore in their tech documents. So it is possible Apple dropped mentioning the coating for the Stainless watches and only continues with the Space Black Titanium because it is a new(er) finish and in time, it too will also drop the (DLC) mention.

Personally, I'd argue that since Space Black Titanium is DLC and that finish sure looks similar to Graphite to me, I would assume Graphite is DLC for that reason, too.

Yeah, but you know the story they made the graphite Milanese Loop PVD because the previous DLC graphite loop was able to scratch the DLC graphite watch..?

And me myself posted technical specs for graphite series 6 that advertised it as DLC.

I am pretty sure it’s still DLC on the graphite.

I'm upgrading from an S5 SBSS to an S7. I'm looking to get the same look, but I see this year (and I believe it was the same with the S6), there is no Space Black option for Stainless Steel. Instead there is a Graphite one. Is the Graphite of the same color and also with the DLC coating as the old SBSS, and just a wording thing, or the color is actually different?

Thank you.
The graphite series 7 doesn’t have a dlc coating. That’s what Apple said to me. The new listing doesn’t have it as dlc either.

To be fair, Apple's front line customer service folks generally are reading off the same tech pages we are. Heck, some of them even say "yes it does have DLC" because they are mistakenly reading the Titanium Edition watch data.

I believe Apple just stopped mentioning it on the US tech pages (they also no longer mention Gold Stainless is PVD and it still is).

Right. Apple dudes on telephone know nothing these days. So sad..

Please bring some real world proof other than just stupid opinions.
The proof is Apples website. If you don’t believe you can speak to an Apple Watch specialist. If they say it does please let me know. It’s been frustrating trying to get an answer. I ordered a graphite and a space black Hermes. I will not buy either unless it’s officially confirmed to have the dlc coating.

Apple can confirm the titanium but not the graphite or the space black Hermes?

If you read the posts from the last 7 days in various threads on MR, you’ll find people telling the forum they talked to an Apple Watch specialist and he confirmed it is dlc just like the previous years. 2 minutes later you find a different person telling the opposite. Let’s just confirm those so called specialists have no idea what’s going on and are just reading from the specs. And yes, the specs don’t list it anymore as dlc. But there could be lots of reasons why Apple didn’t advertise the coatings for the SS watches this time. In fact the gold was listed as pvd last year and isn’t anymore. But it’s still pvd coated. And if you dig a bit into coatings and learn why and how they are made and what they look like, you could come to the conclusion the graphite and space black SS are still dlc like they ever were.

Apple's US website doesn't list the finish for the Series 6 Graphite or the Gold, yet Apple's Mexico website DOES list the finish for the Series 6 Graphite (DLC) and Gold (PVD). So not much help quoting Apple's website as a source. :)

I’m talking about the series 7.
