Huzzah! I'm looking forward to being able to use the current behavior for some things and the new/old behavior for others. Now, I agree, in order to make this feature all the more useful, letting it work with smart folders would be excellent...

That dock looks much better to me than the Leopard default. Perhaps it should become default.

thank you apple for changing this as this is seriously my number one complaint about leopard (when the os is so good, you have to pick on something!! :) )

The lack of list view in the stacks was the deal-breaker for me. If Apple had not changed this I would never have even considered getting 10.5 but once this update is actually released I will go out and get Leopard. I had sent in numerous bug reports about this myself so there must been enough of them on this one issue to get someone's attention.

I thought stacks would take a big chunk out of my Quicksilver usage for app launching, but no dice, but the downloads stack has been useful. It's driving me absolutely nuts though without an icon.

I've tried a lot of the apple scripts and crap but nothing has worked really that great for date added, hopefully this works.

Btw, nice meatwad.

It would be nice to have an Applications folder, but to exclude the Exposé, Spaces, Front Row icon etc, and to have Photoshop's icon there instead of the folder. This was possible with the dev builds, but they've taken the functionality away. If not 10.5.2, I desperately hope this comes in 10.5.3 :)

That's great! That was one of the things that has so far kept me from upgrading. Hopefully 10.5.2 will address some other big issues too.

Can't you just create a folder and fill it with aliases? Wouldn't this allow ANY custom mix of things to become a stack?

The cynics said there was no way apple would ever fix this before 10.6.

Nice to see that they were wrong.

Hopefully this is an indication of Apple listening to user feedback more - I was pleasantly surprised that some of the major user complaints about Logic 8 have already been addressed in 8.0.1.

It great news, but I'm sure it was easy to implement (I'm saying this with absolutely no knowledge of such things), as it's been in the OS for a long time.

I wonder when is the last time Microsoft paid attention to their customers and made an intermediary update this quickly to please them?

I'm inclined to say ... um... never.

So... you submitted a bug report for software you don't even have?

No icon? You need this:

Other than the arrow, how is it "not as nice"?

Every time I add a file, I have to create an alias to it in another folder, every time I want to take the file out, instead of dragging it, I have to delete the alias...

The same every time I update an app...

Really?
While that was something I found, at best, a pathetic oversight (intentional or not), I didn't for one second lump that into the list of reasons not to upgrade. Seemed more annoying than anything.
Interesting...

¡Viva la foro! :D

I didn't really use stacks or Dock folders but this is still really good news for everyone. I do like the new rounded corners on the grid view too! Maybe while they were at it they fixed stacks as well. I can't wait for the update anyways. Woooohoooo!!!!

Thank God!
That was my biggest complaint about Leopard.

Now if they would just put back the audio function for movie previews in the columns view...

My audio is there in the previews in the column view. You must have something wrong. Just click the small triangle that appears when you hover over small preview and it plays as per Tiger,

You're a jerk.
