I HATED Tiger's Show All Spotlight window. It showed way to many results and I found the Sorting options to be garbage.

You aren't alone. I think integrating it into Finder WHILE ADDING* functionality was the right thing to do. To me, it's a hundred times more useful.

*Advanced Boolean searches are now available unlike in Tiger.

yes, boolean operators are most welcome. but for me the organization of the results window still offsets those gains--it just makes it so much harder than it was in tiger to scan through the results. i most frequently use spotlight to search for PDFs, and so i loved having them grouped together.

But the main question remains. Why in hell did Apple remove this feature in the first place? That is the 1 million dollar question of the year.

The reason for the big change should be pretty obvious. Leopard was designed to bridge the gap for switchers which really makes sense. If you notice the entire OS is built to look and work like iTunes. Mail, the Finder, iCal, iPhoto and now Spotlight. The majority of Windows users have now used iTunes and are very familiar with it so when they move over to the Mac it will be a lot easier learning curve since the OS is built like iTunes.
Too much inconsistency creates a higher learning curve and many Windows users are soooo Windows centric that they don't handle change very well.

I think changing Spotlight was a smart move.

I've been using stacks with Leopard this whole time and with the minor modification of ... can't think of what they are called ... those stack cover things ...

Drawers. Ive seen some pretty interesting designs out there for them as well. Ive got black drawers with symbols as opposed to grey with black.

This may be a bit off topic but there now is an option to turn off the translucent menu bar... for you complainers out there......in 10.5.2

Is that so? Can I ask for a screenshot? ;)

Personally I am quite happy with it translucent. But I am glad apple put it in as a user option.

Here ya go i had one up before but i don't want to screw up my ADC account with apple..... just noticed it today.....

sorry guys i'm to afraid of apple to post that pic again, but trust me its in there

That's probably fake. I'm sorry but, I don't think Apple is going to give us an option for the translucent menu bar. Also, why isn't the option in the Apperance control panel instead of Desktops/Screensavers.

Lemme guess... I suppose also in 10.5.2, you can turn the 3D Dock off on the bottom by right-clicking the Dock divider right?

Edit: Oops. My bad.... Apparently there is an option to change the Dock appearance in 10.5.2. YAY! See screenshot.

I was talking to my old buddy in California (who is part of Apple's development team) and he showed me the teaser of the new features in 10.5.2. His main thing that he talked about was the new "stacks". In my amazement, this picture is almost the exact thing that we talked about.

He told me not to tell anyone, but I think it's for a good cause now that someone has already found out.

Hope you all enjoy the new "Leopard"!!

Thanks,

Easy TheSpaz i don't appreciate the sarcasm....Its not fake i have the build and I am using it.... you'll see..... you might owe me an apology after it released.... plus i don't even know how to use photoshop

Heh. Sorry... I just figured it was fake. That's cool that you were able to break your NDA contract and show us. The screenshot I submitted was fake as you probably know since you have the real build. Anyways, carry on.

ya no prob you actually had me checking my build to see if that option was actually there .. nice work on the fake....maybe i should take the pic down i really don't want to mess with apple ...what do you think.....

Yeah, maybe you should take it down.

The way I made my "fake" was just a simple edit to the DockMenus.plist file inside Dock.app. I was able to simply add whatever menus I wanted... it was cake.

Not to offend you but none of what you say wreaks of the truth. It's either true or your friendship is worth breaking trust and integrity over, even more so your friend is willing to spill Apple's secrets? My cousin works for Apple in Cupertino and he can't tell me anything down to the second before Steve Jobs announces it at Macworld.

Relax... he was just kidding.

Trust and integrity? We are talking about a point release for 10.5......a release that has been distributed to outside developers......not a brand new product.

What if his buddy just showed him the new features? Is he suppose to not say anything to maintain "Apple's trust and integrity"? C'mon. Leaks are going to happen. I think people talking about 10.5 update leaks are in a different category than talking about new product.

People inside and outside of Apple will ALWAYS talk and leak.

Damn I missed the screenshot. Ah well... I understand you felt you had to remove it :)

Anyone have a mirror they can point me to via PM...?

This may be a bit off topic but there now is an option to turn off the translucent menu bar... for you complainers out there......in 10.5.2

Here's how to do it now:
Changing the menubar will require an administrator password and you will need to restart the Mac for changes to take effect.

sudo defaults write /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.WindowServer 'EnvironmentVariables' -dict 'CI_NO_BACKGROUND_IMAGE' 1
Remove translucency in menubar, turns it white.

sudo defaults write /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.WindowServer 'EnvironmentVariables' -dict 'CI_NO_BACKGROUND_IMAGE' 0
Removes translucency in menubar, turns it grey.

sudo defaults delete /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.WindowServer 'EnvironmentVariables'
Reverts back to default translucent menubar.

Interesting. I use the 2D dock in 10.5.1 which looks like this:
picture1xh7.png

I like the new gradient shape with the dots for the separator.
Anyway, the dock is made out of picture files. You can make your own in photoshop and save the pieces as to replace the original one. Interesting no one made a nostalgic tiger dock skin yet.

Okay, you didn't "read" my post at all. The trust and integrity part was about the poster breaking trust with this friend by spilling the beans to MR.

Also I mentioned that my cousin works for Apple and he can't tell me ANYTHING. He works in the iPod division and he had the 5th gen iPod 3 months before it came out and he never showed it to me. The Apple corporate employees sign an agreement that they are not allowed to discuss anything about the products before Apple releases it, that goes the same for developers.
If people want to risk their job over revealing point releases or product updates then it's their stupidity.

PIMPIN! That's looks awesome. 10.5.2 ftw!

Sweet.

Now we just need Apple to fix Spaces. If Spaces is fixed, wireless dropping, and then other 200 or so annoyances, Leopard may finally be ready for prime time.

Fingers crossed...
