Still too much for me to pay for a novelty item. I'll wait and see how it develops. If it really takes off I might bite in a few years.

----------

I wonder how easily it scratches?

I can't help but think of the iPod Touch 4G. That chrome scratched like crazy!

The iPhone's price started at $600 and dropped to $200 within 4 months of its release.
No it didn't.

The iPhone went from $600 outright to $200 outright and the remaining $400 paid in monthly instalments added to your phone bill for 24 months.

When iPod came out I wanted one but wasn't in a position to afford one, I had to wait till the iPod Mini came out. I queued up for the first iPhone and ipad. This I'm missing out on. I can't even convince myself it's worth the money, let alone convince my wife....
Apple will have to get creative with financing, maybe bundle with an iPhone contract.
As for the gold one, that pricing is hilarious, only numpties with too much money will buy that. It will probably sell out....

at some point

might be better to buy these abroad. If you can get the VAT back in Germany for example, pricing is about 360$ all in for a 42 MM sport watch.

$700 for the 42mm SS with a simple leather band and I can't even get the case in black. Yeah screw that.

Apple might have had my money at $500-550 but at $700 and not the color I want it's not happening. For the $1100 they want for the one I would want I am going to go buy a Tag that will last for decades.

Can anybody explain how the same style leather strap that comes on millions of watches is somehow $150 from apple? ($150 is the stand alone for the band, it's shown as $100 more than the rubber).

Google with Android wear becoming IOS compatible is going to make a killing. Moto 360 v 2.0 costing less than an Apple Watch is going to sell like hot cakes.

It looks like you can't buy the black SS without the link bracelet....which seems just absurd...

the apple watch is going to be one of the biggest mistakes in apples history. it looks awful, not a lot of features, you need your iPhone with you, and it costs way to much

You should come up with something catchier if you want to be 2015’s version of “No wireless. Less space than a nomad. Lame.”

I know, I laughed at the $17,000 price tag for a disposable quartz watch with a red leather strap!

Apple are making themselves look ridiculous with that sort of offer, in a ditzy, detached-from-reality sort of way.

It somewhat puts me off the whole company right now. Apple have always been associated with cool, thoughtful and beautifully executed technology at a premium (but fair) price. Now they seem to be more interested in serving outrageously overpriced baubles to Mr Burns:

Option 4, don't reward them for this strategy.

Of course it will sell like crazy anyways.
We're talking about Apple. They can leverage the emotions people have for them unlike most other companies.

Glassed Silver:mac

Consider the Kardashians and other celebs who will be getting them for free to "be seen" with them.
THEN, remember that you are subsidizing those watches.

This is way too expensive. Definitely did not expect this price range for this version.

really? $549 is only 200 bucks more than the sport is much less than i expected it to be (was guessing closer to Gruber's $749 guess for steel + sport band).

its not much more than the original iPod.

nope. it dropped 200 from $599 to $399, for the 8gb model.

So, will the black SS watch scratch as easy as the black iPhones have done?

For $1500 inc VAT I would want something that don´t look like sheeeeiiit after 3 days.. :)

Too expensive for me.. Will be getting the Black Sport instead.

Had hoped for a Space Black Stainless Steel with sports band for around $599, but $1100 is just crazy!

I will be sending Mr. Gruber a big helping of crow. He can eat it. Raw.

Wait, didn't you just tell me you own a $3,500 watch?

Yes yes, two in fact. A Tag (Monaco) and a Omega (Speedmaster). But those I bought before I had 2 children. Now guess where the money goes now....

and those watches will still be fantastic watches in 5 years. With a cheap battery replacement of course.

Diapers?

I get it. But of course these models came in $300-500 less than our friend Mr. Gruber predicted, so I am a bit surprised by all the shock and dismay I am hearing now over the price. I was actually pleasantly surprised that my object of desire (the Milanese) is $649/$699.

Actually. As what sometimes happens with Apple products for me that my first reaction is too expensive. And then I browse their website as I just did and suddenly I wrap my head around those prices.

So my current state is that I will just look which one I really want and forget about the price for a moment. Then I can come back and look at the price.

With this even if i pay now $250 more then I wanted I will be long term satisfied.

I figured I was in for $600-700 for the combination I like the most and that's exactly where it came out. The biggest problem I will have is deciding on the size but for my small wrist I will probably go 38mm.

BTW, what's the chance MR won't be treating Gruber as some sort of authority in the future?

Don't know - here is a hint: they still treat this analyst Kuo as a authority....

Btw - both those watches are purely mechanical. No battery needed. The speedmaster I have for more then 20 years....It is not even automatic. I need to "charge" it by hand by turning the dial. Runs then for 48 hours.

I envision this in 2016:
Apple Watch 2 -
Its 25% slimmer, 20% better battery life and...
50% cheaper than the previous model.

Followed by, "Shut up and take my money!"

This is simply a ploy to get everyone to buy the Apple Watch 2.

Here's to the crazy ones (the early adopters)!

Clearly, there are tens of millions of people that won't be buying an Apple Watch. But there are also millions of people who will.
