I had the Space Black Series 4, and got the Graphite Series 6 because I didn't like the ripoff price to get another Space Black one. Have to say, it's not that bad, and at times and at angles looks black--other times, more grayish. I just wish they'd made a Graphite sports band to match...

From now it’s clear that the new Graphite stainless steel Apple Watch is lighter than the previous Space Black one. I would say it’s more like a “Space Gray” Watch. Differences are subtle but still noticeable, particularly at certain light conditions. As a user of sport bands, for me both versions are great and deliver nice combinations, but I can understand the Graphite version results in a minor aesthetic problem for those having the expensive space black Link Bracelet. Perhaps Apple will update the bracelet, which is still available in 42 mm, to a Graphite version in 44 mm. Moreover I am still curious to know if the Hermes version is indeed more black.
Just left the Apple store. Apple does indeed have a graghite Milanese loop and a link bracelet available now. They're both beauties.

I did. I was at the Apple store yesterday. Space black link and graphite Milanese loop, that’s what they had, which lines up with their website.
I saw the Milanese loop and link bracelet at the Apple Infinite Loop store in Cupertino, Ca yesterday. All stores may not have them yet. The website must not be updated yet. The SF Bay Area is the center of the Apple universe. We have seven stores within 20 miles so maybe new items roll out here more quickly.

You are correct (and I have personal experience of this) however the new Graphite Milanese is PVD, not DLC. That should mean the Watch is harder than the band and so this risk will be greatly reduced.

I have gone for it with confidence on my new Watch. 👍

Unfortunately the Graphite Milanese is DLC, and has already scratched my Graphite SS 44mm quite badly. I’ll be returning it to Apple tomorrow.

Definitely an unexpected move transitioning the SB to the Hermes line. I mentioned it when I heard about that, that I think they did that just to give the Hermes a little bit more exclusivity other than just offering the standard 316L stainless. That’s unfortunate, but that’s the only thing I can really think of why they did that. And in the end, in general it probably won’t be a major seller for them given the price tag with the Hermes line in general.

Many but not all people have reported problems with that band scratching watches ever since 2015
Well, they haven’t since we are talking about the new Graphite Milanese which is described as PVD on the Apple site. PVD shouldn’t be tough enough to scratch DLC as I understand things.

But clearly the description is wrong.

Agreed. Its shouldn't scratch and Apple should be held to task for describing it as PVD but unfortunately as people have found, it scratches within seconds of some people fitting it and things haven't changed since 2015

Ridiculous. That is all on you, just as if you scratched a new car And wanted to take it back to the dealer.
Why is it ridiculous? Apple's return policy states that if you're dissatisfied with a product you can return it within 15 days.

In my opinion this one is Apple's problem, they've clearly stated that the graphite Milanese loop is PVD. The thing about PVD is that it can not scratch DLC so something is wrong here. Until they update the description of the product they should be held accountable for the misleading information. If they said the loop is DLC and someone tried to return the watch because it got scratched I'd be agreeing with you.

Well, I'd say if you were scratching the car by getting in and out of it, then yes it's on the manufacturer.

IMHO Apple shouldn't be selling bands that will damage the watch casing - at least not without providing people with clear information as to the risks/dangers.

If we’re going to use a car analogy, I’d say it’s like buying the manufacturer’s roof rack and getting your roof scratched when you put it on. Exchanged the watch at an Apple store today and replaced the Milanese with a Solo Braid; the Specialist said it was very unlikely that Apple would sell a band that scratches their watch; I professed to disagree, but the service at the store was excellent as always, albeit with an extra level of Covid protection bureaucracy.

If watch scratched by a bracelet came with , it is a design flaw. The person didn’t drop or scratched the product intentionally. This is should be Apple’s headache , not a customer’s one.
I returned my car once, it came with a design flaw they couldn’t fix.

BTW: I believe that the person works hard to get the money and doesn’t use “ridiculous” offshore loopholes to avoid taxes.

.... or when his friends asked him to charge a phone that person didn’t give a cable only.
:)

Most places are sold out of Space Black SS Milanese Loops (like Best Buy) but Amazon has some left for $99. Genuine Apple Product. I got one for myself and for my husband, before they were totally gone. We prefer the Space Black to the Graphite. I’d rather pay $99 for another color of Milanese Loop than for the Braided Solo Loop.

It kinda just hit me that may they stuck with Space Black for the Hermes bands simply because they had leftover straps with space black ends to sell through. Who knows???
I had ordered a Graphite SS and since it’d be a while before receiving it, I thought I’d go see it in person. I was disappointed. It’s definitely not black and with the oils that it collects, it almost looked green. It’s a serious print magnet. I asked to compare with the silver stainless steel. I immediately loved that one and purchased it on the spot.

Rocking a Tim Cook original look stainless steel with white sport band.

Don’t take my word for it — some people like the graphite — but maybe heed my caution to go see it in person and decide then.

Super versatile for me but that said I’m still stalking for an Hermès ss black double tour (I can see the difference between the graphite and black and it’s not subtle for me but I’m really into details).

but I’m also really interested in the thinner attelage... if they made that in space black ss I would be 🙏🏻.

No snark here, but this is a really bad anecdote/comparison on your part. And I’ll tell you why, an Apple Watch has a return policy/procedure no matter what for 14 days, auto manufacturers don’t guarantee you to return a car because it has a ‘scratch on it’, which you sign acknowledging the paperwork when you purchase a vehicle factory new, plus they offer extendedEd post warranties. Apple allows a return for an Apple Watch without questions asked, versus a vehicle that you buy, you’re prohibited from returning it regardless if it has a rock chip or not on it. Basically, what you’re comparing is not mutually exclusive, that are two different types of entities with an Apple Watch being a consumer product and a vehicle being a purchase that’s expected to accrue minor cosmetic damage.
