Well my 14 days is up and after wearing both the Space Grey and the SS for a couple of days at a time each, I've finally decided to keep the SG Sport and return the SS. There's no doubt the SS is nice watch - premium in several ways - but for me I prefer the more casual look/feel of the SGS and feel more comfortable wearing the SGS, so for me the extra £180 is not worth it, but for others it absolutely would be.

The extra weight of the SS was noticeable when running/exercising, which meant it had a tendency to slip down my wrist more than the SS, the sapphire screen is not easy to read in daylight and I miss lots more taptic notifications on the SS than I do with the Sport. And despite the SS being more robust its looks so precious I was more conscious of not knocking it as I would probably cry if I did! Also, I think the current rumours of version 2 of the watch also reminded me that this is a generation one model and I'm happier spending less now and maybe upgrading next time round.

That's my two'pennth - everyone is different, the SS is definitely a beautiful device so whichever you choose, just enjoy!

The day after I posted on this forum stating how I was satisfied with the Sport, I took the plunge and upgraded to the stainless steel. I couldn't be happier!

I chose the sport thinking it was a compromise worth making for a gen 1 product but I quickly realised that I actually like the sport more. There's no doubt the stainless steel watch looks great but it's just too polished and corporate looking for me. I live in jeans and really don't do smart, accordingly I really don't want a watch that would look better with a business suit.

When I want my sport to look smarter I put on the Milanese loop band. I'll probably also get a black sport band at some point.

There's no one right answer here. It's not just about the relative expense, or the relative weight, or shiny versus matt or whatever; it's about what feels right for you. My sport feels right for me.

After wearing the sports band for a few days this started to happen. I'm allergic to the damn band. I'm going to return the watch at some point this week. I don't want to invest in a $150 band on something I'm not all in on yet. I wish the watch itself were a bit thinner. Maybe gen 2 will be better for me in the long run

You're wearing it too tight.
I'm actually not. I thought that may have been the case so I loosened it up, one notch Saturday and another Sunday. It was too loose yesterday so I went up a notch again today. same result each time.

Quite honestly the only thing that's hindering me from going all in on the sport is the scratch thing vs sapphire glass.

Do NOT underestimate the importance of this!!! You are wearing exposed glass on your wrist. In spite of what -some- say here, it's not at all hard to scratch the Sport's crystal. Take it from me, a scratch appeared out of nowhere on mine, and I have no recollection of banging or scratching it.

As to the screen protectors, as evidenced by the images in this thread and others, you CAN see them. You WILL know they are there, both visually and every time you swipe on the watch. They are NOT very easy to apply cleanly as evidenced by many posts here. However, if you don't mind any of this, then a protector will work great for you. But for myself, no...

This basically sums up people who buy the Sports model

I live in a suit and I got the sport model. If I'm truly trying to dress nicely, it's a Swiss auto every time. A ss Apple watch wouldn't change that for me.

So you do like to wear a better quality watch when you're "truly trying to dress nicely"
The SS is a better quality watch then the Sport and since the only person who cares what watch I'm wearing is me, I rather wear the "better" watch when I'm in a suit

Stainless steel all the way.. Pairs nicely with all types of bands especially the stainless steels ones (Link + 3rd party like Hoco)

Sport is great for me. The only time I'm in a suit is when someone died or someone is getting married and I could not get out of attending.

I don't know if I'd call it better quality as they're 99% the same, but that's not really important.

All I'm really saying is that I haven't come fully around to the idea of an apple watch as a fashion accessory, so I didn't feel the need to get the dressier model. The space gray sport just kind of fades into the background, and I like that. I also really liked the space black. I was just too cheap.

I understand why many think the ss model looks better. I am just of the opinion they all look very smart watchy regardless of the model.

I agree that the apple watch isn't the best looking watch and can look more like a smart watch
Most people I know have bought the Sport model due to it being a 1st generation product
