Ah, but we don't know what the distribution is. Maybe 90% are in the first 5 minutes?

(yes, pulling that number out of my ass) - but, until Apple actually releases real sales numbers, we have no idea. :)

I got a rough idea last night, at least of our orders. About 70% of the 42mm SSSB from macrumors users were between 01-06

Many problems with that. If we could have gotten everyone here to use it and update it as their status changed...

Even then, the group here isn't indicative of the general population.

Right, but you're missing the general idea. Status doesn't matter, it's just order time. Even if the sample is extremely small, you can get a good general idea of when most people that were waiting up were actually able to log on and put in an order. According to that, most of the people that are going to stay up are going to be big fans such as macrumors users and will report as they have done. We can tell that most people that stayed up were generally able to successfully log on around 03-05

In countries that they're willing to only comment on an english-speaking discussion board. (ruling out much of AsiaPac).

Sorry, not trying to negate your argument, but I really don't think we have sufficient data to do any reliable forecasting.

UPS Flight #77 landed in Anchorage 2 hours ago and hasn't moved yet and is not scheduled to move anytime soon. Maybe any other flight that leaves Anchorage to Louisville starting 2 hours ago will maybe carrying watches :)

Update: I just checked, most of the UPS flights left to Louisville prior to the landing of UPS Flight #77 :(

Thanks so far I'm loving it.[/QUOTE]

I'm sure you are !!, i have to look at my wife's every night and it's driving me mad :(.....the watch that is :p

Nice, though the white balance is terrible on the first photo. You are going to spark another debate about what shade of black the watch is.
Another data point about the shade. I did my first try-on of the Watch a couple of days ago at the Third Street Promenade Apple Store in Santa Monica. I've seen the same gunmetal gray display model under the glass for weeks, but when an employee asked me if I wanted to try one on, I said yes, and they pulled a more recent arrival out of the drawer. It was the Vader Black I've been lusting after.

There was definitely a difference in the coating between the two Space Blacks. I think the early arrivals in the Apple Store got minimal DLC treatment just to ship them in time for 4/10. The "rough drafts" had enough contrast from the regular SS to work for display purposes.

Agreed. I've never seen DLC done in anything other than as a glossy, jet black coating.

Heck, they may have even painted the display models just to get them ready for viewing. A lot of my job consists of solving unexpected problems that inevitably pop up. If the DLC coating factory couldn't get their process to work prior to launch, the first thing I would have done is ask if they could apply *any* black coating they thought would work. If they answered with the suggestion of a black sharpie applied by hand to each one? I would have agreed.

Who cares if it lasts, or exactly matches the production product? This is for demo models that won't even be sold.
