Wife and I saw Star Trek this evening. Good movie! :)

Enjoyed seeing Kirk get podded off the Enterprise.

Liked the transporter scene with Kirk, Spock and Uhura.

Didn't like what happened to Spock's mom. Definitely would affect the future interactions that we've seen in the movies and TNG.

Many good references to the original series.

Looking forward to the next one. :)

We saw it a little earlier this evening, and we both thought it was very good – even Miss Jaffa Cake, who doesn't normally go in for Star Trek.

I'm not sure that I approve of Spock kissing girls, mind.

Also the shuttle craft used to transport Kirk and McCoy to the enterprise was called the "Gillian". :)
I thought it was 'Gilliam' myself, possibly a sly tribute to Terry.

Just got back from seeing it with my wife and we really enjoyed it. Fun, entertaining, and done with respect for the originals. It's really interesting how they through the time travel/alternate reality thing in there to provide the ability to continue the story in whatever way they choose and preserve the original at the same time.

i just did a youtube search for "Die Another Day surf scene", and realise we werent even talking about the same scene :p

you were talking about the opening scene, which i agree, is awesome. i was talking about the scene where 007 is hanging off the side of the ice cliff in the rocket car, and uses a part of the car's body and it's parachute to kite surf ahead of a wave that was caused by the ice cliff collapsing. know the scene im talking about?

This one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6w6FV8P7HXg :p

Haha, yeah, I guess I blocked that avalanche bit out. Plus, I've seen people call the opening scene "obviously faked/CGI" before. The kite surfing and the snow reference should have given me a clue that we weren't talking about the same thing. :p

"I'm a trekkie Jim, not a doctor!"

The DVD came out this week so I got to watch the movie again last night. My TV may be slightly smaller than a movie theater's but it was still a great movie to watch. I might watch it again tonite, this time with the J.J. Abrams commentary.

One of the "special features" on the DVD shows how they filmed Chris Pine falling to the drill platform (remember that scene?) by having him stand on a mirror. That way he could stand up instead of hang upside-down as they filmed him from above with sky showing behind him. Very clever!

I thought the movie was awesome. Really liked who they chose for the cast, and how they went through their lives. I already ordered it for BR, after watching it twice on BR. Very entertaining movie!

i was a bit skeptical about this at first, another hollywood turd recycling old stuff and ruining it in the process, but i was pleasantly surprised, it's a great film, the story could have been deeper in places but the cast was brilliant, you could really feel who these people were without names being mentioned, i think they pulled it off brilliantly, i just hope that they dont plan to do the " sequel to death " stunt that everything seems to come with now,

It was a really great movie! I'm not a Star Trek fan but I was able to understand most of what was going on so it was good for me. I ordered the Bluray Special Edition (not the one with the ship), on Amazon with 2 day shipping. It should be here today but with my luck will come right after I leave for work this afternoon. Can't wait to watch it again!

I liked it more than I thought I would. Only really "off putting" thing for me was how Kirk went from cadet to Captain overnite. But the rest of the movie was so good it barely registers.

I saw that too. Its amazing what you can come up with when you're born into the industry being the son of two Hollywood producers and having practically unlimited budget and some of the best crew in the world working on one of the most lucrative franchises of all time. Yeah, the guy's a genius!

The glass is always half-empty, isn't it?

Might I remind you that no amount of money in the world can substitute for talent, which Abrams has plenty of. This could and probably should have been a huge mess. Instead, we got a damn good movie. That has more to do with ability than money.

Sure I agree. My point was that its almost impossible for him to fail. Also you'd be amazed at all the tidbits/tricks you retain practically growing up on a film set.

Also, I've watched the movie about 4 times since getting my netflix copy. :D

Lots of kids who grew up like that have failed. I'd say they're more likely to fail.

But yeah- the movie rocks.

i never got star trek...........or any of the series...:D:eek:

and when i mean "got", i mean didn't understand the plot? or the meaning? unlike Star Wars.:D

Me too!;) Really......i mean.... they're like 7 generations of star trek

like the next generation, and deep space 9....and others.....

gets confusing?!!!!!

and the captains change!!!!

:D:eek:

It's 6 series (if you count the animated series). And it's not confusing. Stargate has the same thing, with Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, etc. They just all revolve around the same premise. And the captains would change as the series and cast changes as well.

stargate?!:confused::eek:
wow i had no idea it was like that! can i just watch the last movie and catch up to it all haha?

oh yeah it is Dofot9.....it is...:D;) you need to watch over 200 hours of Star Trek to understand....
