Nope.
I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan nor am I a huge fan of paying more just to have something in HD. I've got the Star Wars original trilogy DVD collection that contains the last update and originals. That'll do me until I have my own R2 droid and holographic projector.

I'll still get it regardless of all those silly "continuity cops" out there.

Here's the question though: will the audio be Dolby TrueHD or DTS Master Audio HD encoded? Mind you, this is a moot point with modern A/V receivers since they can decode both formats into 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 surround sound.

That's the beauty of subjective opinions : everyone is entitled to theirs. Because some of us enjoy a series less when its continuity is compromised and it hurts the suspension of disbelief doesn't mean you can't still ike it.

No need to roll your eyes, everyone has a right to their opinion and no need to cry or feel hurt because some people don't like the stuff you like.

Apparently this version tweaks the scene with Han and Greedo there is even less time between shots. As if this is ever going to appease the fans. (just have Han shoot first!)

Film purists are, after all, a rare breed.

I'm not a film purest by any stretch of the meaning. If Lucas updated the file and only improved the special effects then I'd be content with that, but he continually monkeys with the story. Regardless, I enjoy the series and so I'm looking forward to it. So I guess that will make me one of the unwashed masses :p

DTS-HD MA 6.1; and yes, it's very much a moot point :p

Nope. I dont think the films are that good. They are ok in parts i was always left wanting more from them. I said in another thread that i think the universe is great. It has all the ingredients to make a really great film. I just dont think one has been made yet. The newer prequels were awful. The KOTOR game was better than the films IMO

The DVD of the original trilogy has an untouched version of the films on disc 2. It's a special feature. I hope that the blu-ray version will as well.

Of course, for me, part of the magic of the original series is that it was produced with 70’s techniques and has that feel. The embarrassment is how awful the re-edits and added effects look by comparison. Go watch the Jabba's Palace scene in the 'improved' version.
I agree. I was unimpressed with the remasters and would prefer to keep a VHS player handy.

I'd actually love to watch the original trilogy without the effects. I've only ever seen the remastered version.
Shows how young you are. ;) Go watched the originals.
Despite the negative poll results, I'm confident that it will fly off the shelves. Lucas knows this as well.
Yeah he does. Much like James Cameron and his ****ing half dozen releases of Avatar. You want it now, buy it, but you want extended cuts, wait 5 months and then re-buy ... 3D? Ok we'll get that to you in 6 more months and you will buy it. These chaps aren't stupid ..
Film purists are, after all, a rare breed.
They only exist in text. They're the same ones who pre-ordered.
Also, film purists do not support the movie industry. The great unwashed consumers of the worst Hollywood trash have that honor. And they get what they want.
Hey now, I would probably buy the Blurays but that is the consumer in me.

Since Star Wars is due out shortly and its now evident the Lucas couldn't help but monkey with the series yet again. Will you still buy it.?

If you look at the reviews over at Amazon they're pretty much universal in their negative reaction to Lucas' latest changes.

Nope not gonna buy it. For two reasons:
  1. I already own all of them on DVD.
  2. I agree that Lucas' latest changes kind of stink.

I'm actually kind of surprised that Lucasfilm chose DTS-HD Master Audio encoding, since they have a pretty cozy relationship with Dolby Laboratories. Remember, the DVD widescreen releases of the Star Wars movies used Dolby Digital encoding, not DTS encoding many DVD's started to use before the arrival of the Blu-ray format.

Nah. I probably would if they decided to include the original theatrical versions, but they aren't. I don't want the special, super-duper versions.

Hell, it's ridiculous. What if Nickelodeon came out with the complete Season 1 of Spongebob but added random crap, or maybe some CG?

Milk that cow, George!

Then you can turn it into a horse and then beat it!

someone bought this for me! haha!

Another change Lucas made to Star Wars: A NEW HOPE is that Alderaan shot first!

Behold....

I have it. I watched "A New Hope" last night, and the quality is most certainly hi-def. You can see a lot more tiny details everywhere plus the film grain is a little more pronounced.

Although I was a little surprised when during the duel between Obi-Wan and Vader there are yellow flashes that last for about a frame each time their light sabers touch. Kind of distracting. But oh well.

Agreed. In general I'm pretty open minded, but I struggle very hard listening to people glorify overpriced tripe. I cannot fathom anyone calling the prequels "high quality", or even "good", I can barely imagine "tolerable". Why purchase this rubbish?

Each time I watch the modified originals, I find myself losing the original wonder I had for the films as that wonder is drown out by inane additions (random floating robots and Jawas falling off desert dinosaurs) at the best and outright violations (Han / Greedo) at the worst.

I have no desire to purchase this. If they release the originals UNTOUCHED, then I will, but that's it. Otherwise...
