that's nice!! scary.

I don't have a Library/Compositions folder... Do I create it or what?

Edit: I found it, nvermind

Well, I haven't found it. I have looked in all three libraries, and I have searched for it, all in vain.

Any clues where to find it? In the folder Library, or the Library in the System, or in the personal Library?

Or shall it be inside another folder in one of the above Libraries?

I used the personal library.

Hey guys, thanks for this. However, I can't get the effect to show up. I have done the things mentioned. I put HoloGit-qtz inside PhotoBooth's Resources folder... Entered "/HoloGit" (no quotes) where I was told. Saved everything. Nothing. Rebooted, still nothing. PhotoBooth claims to have a new backdrop applied on the 4th page of Effects and does tell me to step out of the frame, but upon return I get a weird looking grey background and me breaking into pieces in PhotoBooth. I just tried Yosemite and that one works OK but I must have a weird livingroom because I'm not a whole person in it. Holes here and there.

What on Earth am I supposed to do to get this Holo effect? I have the first batch of 20" Intel iMac 2.0Ghz from 2006, if that matters.

wow great effect...thanks for sharing...
I really have to switch to leopard...

On the Effects 4th page, can't you see the "Hologit" option on the lower right corner?

Thanks for all the positive feedback :)

Im just working on a variety of other effects which I will make available here in the next hour or so :)

So I did as suggested with Photobooth and its a go go. But since I dont have core animation, I only have two panes. So I replaced "popart" with "Hologit".

This does not seem to work on my older PPC machine. I think I need to get a core animation enabler or something of the sort since Time Machine also lacks animation.

No I think it will only work on Leopard, and even then probably only Intel machines.

If memory serves me correctly there were 3rd party apps that could allow other effects in iChat on Tiger but Im not absolutely sure.

Wow elbows VERY impressive. By far the best effect in iChat yet. The other affects show off the inability for the background to be separated from the subject, but this affect uses it to an advantage. Awesome!

You might look at the code from the Retro screensaver in Developer/Examples/Quartz Composer/Compositions/Screen Savers. It currently takes a still of the desktop, sepia tones it brown, adds in scan lines, and causes jittering along the y axis.

I'm working right now on portin the effect as a straight iChat effect with your guide, but it might work well to combine the difference map technique with this? I have a feeling this code came from the Star Wars effect, as if you look at the style of it it looks very much like the video on the announcement of Leopard.

Nonetheless, fantastic work. Thanks for uploading.

This is all good and well but it does not work on my computer
I don't get an option to select any of the backdrops
I tried dragging the hologit.gtz file into photobooth and it just shows me with a grey background :(

Have the exact same problem =/

you have to set photobooth to use english as default language!

(right click - "get info" , deselect all languages but english )

I too was having the problem. But I had not copied the HoloGit.qtz file to /Library/Compositions Once I duplicated and copied the file to that location, the effect showed up in both PhotoBooth, and in iChat.

Worth a try if you have only copied the file into Resources in PhotoBooth.

this effect was one of the first things i looked for after installing leopard. its great that someone made it. REALLY great work!

For those not getting it to work in Photo Booth, it worked for me by doing the following:

  • Per elbow's instruction, copy the HoloGit.qtz file to /Library/Compositions
  • Copy the file to the Photo Booth .app by "Show Package Contents" and modifying the plist file to add it to the last page.

Doing just the second one won't get it to work, you need to copy the file to Library/Compositions as well.

Hope it works for you guys :)

I got it to work using the Compositions method. It appears in the last box though, but better than nothing.

I also have the problems with photobooth not looking like it should. Anyone know how to get the defaults backdrops to work/look properly?

TXB: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

I had been trying to get this to work with no luck. Having a second copy in the resources folder did the trick.

May the force be with you

OK Ive added a zip to the early post in this thread, with the effect in various different colours, and a few experimental effects that arent really ready yet. Test1.qtz should support user backgrounds, but as you will see the colour mix is really not right yet, but Ive run out of time for today so releasing it anyway.

Cheers :)
