In iChat's video preferences, open the Special Effects palette from the Video menu. Select your Ghost effect, but when it says 'Step out of the frame', don't. Then the effect kicks in, you're ghostly but you are also part of the background. Arrange your ghost self, then do a screen capture.

ok i tried that.. but when my ghost comes out.. lol my other self is blue.. wut is the best way to do Lighting wise and background color... thanks.

OK here it is. Like I said its not quite right yet, probably need some effects to make the image look grainy etc. And the preview is messed up and it doesnt seem to work in PhotoBooth, just iChat, but give it a try anyway.

Unzip the attached file and put HoloGit.qtz in /Library/Compositions/

Then launch iChat and it should be there somewhere in the grid of effects.

This version uses your existing background but will see about doing one with custom backgrounds.

Not sure if I got the blue or the glow right. The mixing Ive used to make you transparent isnt quite perfect yet either.

Feedback needed.

Edited Sunday to add new HoloGPack1 file which has versions of the effect in various different colours, plus a couple of other experimental effects. The Test1.qtz should work with user backdrops but its not really right yet, an early work in progress.

Very Cool! Thank you so much for this!

Bob

Wow, that invisible one is fantastic too!

I have to mess around with Quartz Composer more to see what I can make myself. Very impressive.

New UPGRADED Hologram effect!

I spent quite some time Joining together and heavily modifying the hologram effects that have already been made in quartz composer. All I did was bring the two great looks together, the real geniuses are "elbow" and whoever else involved. I am just a messenger! :)

Note: Since this file is based on "HoloGhostblue" it will actually still be called that in the iChat effects pane. I tried to change it, but didn't know how. Any ideas?

Edit: Ok here are my newest effects! Just download the HoloTruePack2! the one called HoloExperiment is the Upgraded version of my last one. The one called HoloTrue is a very early attempt at appeasing many of the macrumors members who have pointed out that a SW hologram needs the little bars of lighter color moving up and down on the image. see what you think, I think we're getting closer and closer!

UPDATE!
HEY I JUST CREATED THE UPSIDE DOWN EFFECT! HERE IT IS! UpsideDown4! Screenshot on the next page! HERE IS THE ULTIMATE EFFECTS PACK INCLUDING THE BEST HOLOGRAM EFFECT, THE OLD ONES, AND UPSIDE DOWN!

Can you please post a screen shot along with your file?

Sorry, it's really hard to get a good screenshot of an effect that's in motion, but this one's decent

UPDATE! Here's the UpsideDown screenshot!

I would love to try this but I've been searching and I don't seem to have a compositions directory. Is it only viewable in Lepoard?

iChat effects only for leopard (SORT OF).

I would love to try this but I've been searching and I don't seem to have a compositions directory. Is it only viewable in Lepoard?

Yes all of these effects are only possible using the leopard iChat. However, tiger users can download and install a program called "ChatFX" http://www.scriptsoftware.com/chatfx that's what I did, it's pretty cool.

And for all of you leopard users who don't see the Compositions folder in /Library, just make it, that's what I did

to change the name of the effect, with quartz composer open, go to the editor menu, and then edit information, option+command+I.

Find the property called name and edit to suit your needs.

anyone know where any shares of the original quartz composer effects from the beta are posted. I found the hologram effect, but thats about it.

Anyone know how to....

in ichat when you add a user backdrop, how do i then delete it?
I cannot seem to find that awnser, i have a bad backdrop i made that I want to delete.

I can't get this to work at all on my G5. I've followed the instructions exactly but I never get any more than 2 pages of effects in photobooth. Additionally, in I chat, the hologram effect shows up and it tells me to step out of the frame but when I do it tells me there's too much motion in the background which is odd cuz it's pointing at a blank wall.

more horizontal lines, less grain!

which language do you use? in german the folder is called 'Kompositionen', in other languages you have to look for the right name

Even better Hologram effect COMING SOON!

Hi it's me again, I made some small but I think impotant tweaks to my upgraded hologram effect, and I think you guys will like it. I also gave it a real name so it'll no longer be hologhostblue in the iChat effects pane!

I would upload it right now, but I'm at work and can't use my laptop. :( I get home in 4 hours, so stay tuned.

could you adjust the grain to make it look more like the movie?

this is a link to the scene in question

it needs to shift horizontally, adding bars of lighter image

I will keep working on it over the next week, I also noticed the bars of lighter image and am trying to think of a way to do it. I am relatively new to quartz composer, so if any wizards want to take what I've done (or elbows and I rather) and improve it, PLEASE DO! Just make sure to post it so we can all try it. Thanks for the suggestions, and stay tuned, cause my new version is coming in 2-3 hours!
