The Star Wars movies are great however I have vowed never to actually purchase coipies of any of them, since Lucas is a greedy bastard who just re-releases the movies every year with some twist to them just to make more money - and the sad thing is that suckers actually continue to buy them. VHS, Special Edition VHS, no Episode I on DVD "ever", then yes Episode I on DVD (surprise surprise...), theatrical release, theatrical re-release, better special effects, director's cut, the new ones, the old ones, the new and old ones, remastered, Hayden edited into ROTJ, blah blah blah, it will never end...

I did design work on the 20th year release only to see it quickly replaced by the DVD box set. As long as people keep buying them they will keep making them.

But do you have the Japanese subtitled LaserDisc for Episode I since "no-DVD" was the line, it was the only way to get 5.1 surround sound... of course being an eBay purchase none of the money went to Mr. Lucas.

A former manager of mine had the original trilogy on Laserdisc, still unopened in its original shrink wrap. Probably worth a little something I'd expect...

That change sucked!

The original was much better. Sure glad that I have a copy.

I didn't like it either. Lucas seems to be a story structure purist. In the end he didn't wan't Han Solo to be viewed as any type of villian. However, in Episode 4: A New Hope, Han could be viewed as a shape-shifter, a non-hero who could get away with killing Greedo. In Episode 5 Lando takes Han's place as the shape-shifter. To me this just proves that Lucas' claim that he had written the entire story of Star Wars before the original was shot is bull****.

i have nothing useful to add other than on-topic cats from the caturday thread.

I'm watching all of them tonight...or atleast as many as I can before 8 tomorrow! Then I'll watch them on my iPod when I'm out

And don't forget the clone war shorts!

Episode III was good, and Episode VI would have been good had it not been for the stinkin' teddy bears (Ewoks)

three certainly was good. best out of the new series by far. and VI, the ewoks didn't bother me too much, it just kinda had too many 'feel good' because this is the third one so everything will be okay moments.

Oh boy... getting old. Saw this on first release in 1977 but enjoyed Close Encounters more at the time. ;)

Anyway, around the world, people are dusting off their stormtrooper outfits for marathon double-trilogy screeenings and post offices are releasing commemorative stamps. Lego are releasing special-edition sets and the 'last guy in the world to see Star Wars' is getting flamed. :D

I should tape a danish to both sides of my head tomorrow... :D

Anyway: great soundtrack, questionable sequels, groundbreaking effects for the time, truly iconic despite its cheesiness. May the force be with you.

I can't believe it was 30 years ago, when me and a friend headed into downtown Boston, to see this movie we had seen advertised. So, into the old Charles street cinema we went. Yow! Who would have known? Anyway, upon exiting the theater, everyone was was in a great mood, it was just that kind of movie. There, in the lobby beside the exit doors, was a table full of blue Star Wars buttons, along with a sign that read "take one". We did. I still have my button. One of the originals kiddies, eat your hearts out. :D

The movie opened at the Charles on a wednesday. We saw it on a thursday. By the weekend, well, you know the rest.

On a sad note, the Charles Cinema closed some years ago, and was replaced by yuppie condos.

Sometimes, normally when driving (which is a little worrying), I swear I can hear Sir Alec's voice: "Use the force Luke, use the force."

Which is odd 'cause my name's not Luke??

Haha, When I used to drive back and fourth to school, once and a while when I was feeling low I'd pop in a Star Wars CD. I remember once I forgot I had the windows down, I was playing the Imperial March from the Empire Strikes Back. The guy on the car to the right of me was smiling and nodding his head, we looked at each other and I just smiled. At least he wasn't laughing, haha :D :p

What is it about these films? I saw the first one when it came out and I can't remember it at all. I remember Jaws a lot more. The whole thing is dull. Lucas is a one trick puppy too. The quality of his work beggers belief and yet he's idolised by tens of millions. I just don't get it.
