I may not be remembering this in the right, but while Obiwan did give Han Solo some money up front, I thought or it could have been not enough, or he may have needed it for operating expenses, with the intent of paying Jabba after the big day when they arrived in Alderan. In the updated Episode 4 where Han meets Jabba in the hanger before they leave for Alderan, they discuss his debt, but honestly I don't remember what is said.
Well to totally nerd out here: The scene you are talking about is only in the new version of the film. Anyway, Jabba says he wants his money and Han says he will get it. Jabba gives him more time and then Han steps on his tail. Hysterical (not). Its in Episode V in which Han is telling Leah he has to pay his debt and she says he should stay with them. The rebels gave him his reward. I remember thinking, what's the big deal, let him go pay and then he can come back. Or send someone else to give it to Jabba or paypal it for crying out loud!

Here's where he says he is going to pay off his debt, kind of..... He doesn't actually say he has the money right there and then.....

I realize the scene was added and mentioned it as the updated version of Episode 4. In the original film, I think the idea was, his standing with Jabba was so bad there was a kill bounty on him and the money he'd get would be for transporting Obiwan and Luke. Just don't think the upfront money was enough to settle the debt or he could have paid it in the hanger to Jabba (in the updated scene). I just don't think that's too big of a plot whole in the big scheme of things. :D

Oh, I agree with you. Not a plot hole and not enough money upfront either. But its fun to pick apart star wars movies. Beats actually paying attention to my job.

Wow, I thought Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford were close in age since they APPEAR to be similar in age in TFA.

Not even close. Fisher is only in her 50's, shockingly, while Ford is in his 70's. That's pretty sobering.

Carrie has had a hard life. Harrison on the other hand has had a pretty good life.

I'm a fan of Carrie Fisher (and Harrison Ford as well).

I just read a FEW rumblings on the interwebz re: Fisher's appearance. Apparently, she had some cosmetic work done (botox and perhaps other procedures).

I really thought Fisher looked good "for her age." Until I realized she was only 57 or 58 at time of filming.

I'm not trying to add to the chorus of Fisher's critics, but I was a little taken aback when I learned of her age.

Alcoholism will do that to you.

I don't know about your neighborhood, but if I look at the typical 58 year old woman in mine, I'd say Carrie Fisher looks comparable.

I don't "mind" her age at all - that wasn't distracting when watching the movies (IV-VII).

What was extremely distracting though is the obvious cosmetic works done. I don't jugde Carrie Fisher one bit for that but regarding the character Leia that inevitable adds a layer to the character that seems unfitting.

TL/DR: Leia does age like everybody else but would have never done a cosmetic job to appear "pretty"! :D

She's a General in a decades long war - - it's not cosmetic surgery, it's reconstructive surgery from battle wounds.

Well, then the make up artist should have made a better job.

Now it just looks like your typical botox-job on women around that age. :D

Oh, or was it sarcasm? I never can really tell.

General's in the Resistance do not have makeup artists.

We're still talking about the character, not the actress right?

Sarcasm, alright. :D

But I meant the make-up artist on the movie set whose task "General Leia with reconstructive battle wounds" appeared as "General Leia wants to stay forever young".

Strictly character speaking of course (although I do have the opinion that naturally aged beautiful faces are still that: beautiful while those trying to preserve what isn't preservable lose the natural beauty and gain an uncanny trait). But still personal decisions so nothing against Carrie of course.

I believe Skyler White had a change up in BB after season 1 or 2. Which really was uncanny since there wasn't even a narrative break and they were supposed to be financially on the edge, so paying for a surgery looked out of place.

I think we're just so used to seeing actresses who look so much younger than their age, that if an actress does look her age, or a bit older, it comes as a bit of a surprise.

It's de rigeur for actresses to have botox work, fillers, heavy makeup, strong white light, postproduction touch ups, etc. When all of that doesn't work, when all of the tricks of illusion still can't mask the damage, it's really sobering.

It makes it that much more difficult to suspend disbelief.

Carrie Fisher does a terrific job as Leia (once again). But esthetic considerations do play a role. After all, we are watching a motion picture. In color. On a screen 100 feet wide.
[doublepost=1453748548][/doublepost]Well, that's what I mean. Actresses benefit from photography tricks such as the one below, where the photo is washed out, and heavily white. Brightness has been maxed out and a lot of her facial features are obscured.

Anyway, I thought Fisher and Ford were both terrific: fun, campy reprisals of their roles.

Only Chewy went over the top with the anthropomorphisms. At least one reviewer pokes fun at his new blonde highlights as well. :)

Funnily enough, I tried to pick a picture that made her look ordinary. If I wanted one that used some photography tricks, I might have selected this one:
