I wasn't impressed with The Force Awakens, it was very slow and schmaltzy with a story that seemed like someone had just pressed shuffle on a scene list of the other movies in the series - - very unoriginal, imho. The girl and the guy were good actors, but that new robot is a straight rip-off of R2D2. The one poor performance was Kylo Ren... yikes. The movie was Star-Wars-y looking I guess, but altogether hollow. Maybe the next one will be better.

The closing comments in Salon's review of the movie are very astute:

"Whether Abrams’ obsessive-compulsive relationship to George Lucas’ 1977 original works for you is a subjective question, of course. You can choose to understand “The Force Awakens” as an embrace of the mythological tradition, in which the same stories recur over and over with minor variations. Or you can see it as the ultimate retreat into formula: “Let’s just make the same damn movie they loved so much the first time!” There are moments when it feels like both of those things, profound and cynical, deeply satisfying and oddly empty. This is the work of a talented mimic or ventriloquist who can just about cover for the fact that he has nothing much to say. He has made an adoring copy of “Star Wars,” seeking to correct its perceived flaws, without understanding that nothing about that movie’s context or meaning or enormous cultural impact can be duplicated."

I was generally spot on where I would rank The Force Awakens. I believe TFA is the 3rd best SW film behind only Empire and Hope. It had several funny moments and played out alot like ANH with sprinkles of TESB and ROTJ. The death scene which is probably an instant classic for one of my favorite and most beloved characters was heartbreaking. I could see it coming a mile away but it still hurt to see it happen. That scene will be the most talked about moment in the film.

My favorite moments is actually the scenes between Han and Leia. They hadn't seen each other in years just like the audience hadn't seen them together on-screen in over 32.5 years. It was one of the most tender SW moments since the beloved "I love you"/"I know" scene in Empire. The look Leia gives to Han with the music in the background was another instant classic moment for me. Just seeing their faces brought back the nostalgia. Who knew the first line of Han would be the same one in the trailer?

The Force Awakens did live up to my expectations that Avengers: Age of Ultron and The Dark Knight Rises couldn't do although I wouldn't say it is my favorite SW film. I wasn't sure of Finn but he surpassed my expectations. I also liked Ren and Rey. Adam Driver is a way better and less whinier actor than Hayden Christensen.I saw it in IMAX 3D for a 9:30pm showing last night and it was in full capacity. I never saw any SW in 3D. Probably the best movie experience I had last night.

+ Best movie experience for me since it was done in IMAX 3D.

+ My favorite film of 2015 and maybe of the decade!

+ Arguably 3rd best SW film ever. C'mon, it was superior to Return of the Jedi or any of the prequels!

+ Most humorous since A New Hope.

+ Good performances by the new cast.

+ Most realistic looking Star Wars since Jedi with beautiful locales especially the final scene.

+ Has one of the most emotional death scenes ever for a super popular character.

+ No annoying characters or acting moments.

- Played out a little too much like ANH with the Poe Dameron trying to blow up the Starkiller Base but with less impact like Luke did in ANH.

- Kylo Ren realistically could not LOSE to Rey but he did and it felt forced to see the good side win.

- Some moments of humorous lines were out of place.

While I echo much of your sentiment, you're including far too many spoilers in this thread. There's another thread for open discussion of the movie...I'd suggest clipping this post out and moving it over there. At a minimum, start your post off with a clear indication that it includes spoilers.

Spotify is even in on the Star Wars action today. I saw they had the soundtracks to the films as a playlist and after I clicked on it and started a track playing, I noticed that they turned the track time progress bar into a light saber!

Chewbacca and Finn probably make up #11 or #12. Finn is quite humorous and noble. BB-8 was great too.

I was not sure if I would like any of the new characters but Ren, Rey, Finn, Poe, and Snoke were cool enough for me. Seeing Snoke as this giant hologram look so menacing. The movie moved fast enough early. Alot of action right away. It probably started feeling a little too much like ANH once they were ready to destroy Starkiller.

The dream sequence stood out to me. I believe they won't explain it yet but Rey is the younger sister to Ren but left as an orphan in Jakku. I was waiting for the plot twist if Luke was going to turn dark. Never happened but it is better that way as he is glimmer of last hope for the rest of the triligy now that Ren's daddy was killed. I just couldn't buy Rey becoming so powerful with a lightsaber after Ren is capable of paralyzing her and a laser early in the film.

TFA pretty much played out like what I expected to be with the leaked spoilers being mostly true except Luke being dark, Luke being Kylo Ren, and Chewbacca dying. A major character did die and Kylo Ren is the son of Han/Leia and is a Grandpa-loving fanboy. The surprises just weren't there thanks to all the spoilers but how it played out was still mostly awesome. I doubt Captain America: Civil War and Batman v Superman will surpass The Force Awakens even if they kill off a major character.

My only qualms with The Force Awakens is really it plays out too much like A New Hope and we had to see the good guys. I like Sith and Empire the best because I like seeing the Sith win too. The dark and the light is what balances us as human beings and a great story.

FYI, I'm 100% serious. Don't Google search anything Star Wars related.

The auto suggestions are all spoilers depending on what you search.

Seriously, you cannot go an minute on facebook without the movie being spoiled. Oh well.

Thank you Disney for saving my favorite franchise.

Or twitter for that matter. Holy smokes. There was a twitter post from a website that specifically said, do not mention spoilers, the first three posts. All spoilers. Freaking people.

I pretty much avoided all my favorite websites that deal with this type of stuff and all of social media until after I saw the movie. Heck even my buddies were trolling me via text messages! HA!:mad::mad::eek::D

Where's Boba Fett?

Wow .... I was very excited for it but nothing could live up to the hype this movie was getting. I loved Rei she was awesome. Fin and Poes bromance was awesome. Just don't give a crap about the older characters especially when you meet them and its like yea we just been chilling being EMO because Luke peace out because he kiss Leia and no other chicks in the galaxy. No seriously how many human women showed up in this movie 3? They should have fixed that

Good movie but Disney is all about the toys so they will make their 4 billion investment back quickly but Guardians of the Galaxy was more fun and a better movie

I saw it today. And what I must confess impressed me the most is how many people were in line! No seriously, I went to work and the local cinemaplex had blocks of people today morning at around 8. Also the night before, and Friday night as well. They are printing money.

I think for those curious who are still on the fence to watch it, I think it is a good movie. Enjoyable and fun. You'll pass the time.

I think it is an improvement over the last 3, and I would say, probably as good as Episode VI but not as good as the very first one or Empire Strikes Back.

I would watch the next ones.

I enjoyed the film immensely. There was so much hype that it would be hard for the film to live up to such heightened expectations.

The film wasn't as good as I had hoped, but it was very entertaining. I plan on rewatching several times and buying the blu ray.

One disappointment was that it wasn't filmed in 48 fps/3D. That would've been hype right there.

Same here, the spoilers thread seems to have people really digging down on the minutia and complaining. I walked away from the movie smiling. In fact, I didn't even want the movie to end, something I consider a mark of a good movie.

My kids loved it as well, we talked over lunch about what we liked, what was confusing, or who our favorite characters are. I think we all came to the conclusion that we all like Ray the best.

A guy on my Facebook who I last saw when I was in school posted a picture yesterday morning which turned out to be quite an important part of the film and most probably spoiled it for some. What an idiot! I really don't know why people do stuff like that?
