Three times, maybe I'll make it 4. Getting the bluray boxset of the whole saga (and started watching rebels) and will get the bluray of TFA as soon as this it comes out. Between this and the ongoing MCU films and series (Agents of Shield, Agent Carter) and others like Deadpool and the new NuTrek film etc. should take the sting out of no Doctor Who series save the Xmas special until 2017.

It's still showing at our local cinema
Box office was down to just $11 million this weekend, so you'd better hurry.

Avatar made $31 million and Titanic made $25 million on this same weekend in their runs, which demonstrates the importance of word of mouth in their success. The Force Awakens' box office record was purely driven by marketing hype.

There's the appeal of it all as well. Seems like even with Avatar being sci-fi it was genreric enough and new/different enough to appeal to likely more of the populace compared to Star Wars, which also had preceding movies set the tone and make it a known quantity in a sense.

Thank you!
Now back to the main topic.
How many times did you go and see it? I've still not got round to my second time yet as life has been getting in the way.
It's still showing at our local cinema though so maybe this week sometime.
Twice. Opening day and then again when I took my extended family over the holidays. I'll add it to my home collection when it comes out. I really don't have much interest in seeing it at the theater for a third time and probably would not have seen it twice if it weren't for taking the family. It was fun but nothing so spectacular as to see it repeatedly.

I know I'm probably late to this... but I'll post my thoughts on the new Star Wars film

As a life long Star Wars fan... I was disappointed.

Don't get me wrong. I thought the acting was great, special effects great, soundtrack was great.
Story seemed rushed though. And plot was mainly just for convenience.

I liked Kylo Ren... interesting villain. Where Luke couldn't succumb to the dark side and kill his father, Kylo Ren could. Though the death of Han Solo did piss me off admittedly. (I did spend the rest of the time grumbling in the theater).
Finn was my favorite character from the new movie. I don't know, he was hilarious but awesome at the same time. I liked Rei, she did good, but I feel they made her a Mary Sue.
Snoke, while acted good... just felt like generic movie bad guy. Don't know. I didn't feel like he was all that foreboding like Palpatine in the original trilogy.
The whole new order. From what I was reading before the film came out... the remnants of the Empire (the New Order) were pretty much on the defensive, and it was pretty much the Galactic Republic was back. Granted there was a huge war still going on, but the Galactic Republic was winning.
Another thing... they made the New Order pretty much copy and paste the Third Reich. Granted Lucas designed the Empire off of Nazi Germany, but they also had their own identity. This felt pretty much that they went back in time, took Nazi Germany off the map, put it in space on a big metal planet with armor, blasters, and star destroyers.

So here is where I'm confused.
End of Return of the Jedi. New Galactic Republic is formed.
According to articles being circulated, NGR is winning war. New Order is on defensive.

Here is where I have problems in this movie.
Why is there still a resistance when the resistance became the NGR after Return of the Jedi?
Why are there only mentionings of the "new bigger player" in this film?
Why is the NGR completely wiped out in the first 30 minutes?
Why the hell does the resistance, if they are still resisting, not have it's own fleet and only like... 18 X-Wings? (Going by how they said they were throwing everything at the New Order.)
Why is Admiral Ackbar dressed like a janitor?
Why did Leia become a general when (I might be wrong and might have to rewatch Return of the Jedi) she was going help lead the NGR?
How was Kylo Ren able to do so much damage against the New Jedi Order... (at least from what I remember reading in the past, unless this is also no longer canon) Luke Skywalker is the most powerful jedi... ever?
How can you kill Han Solo?

It felt rushed and like they were just trying to do a "remake" of Star Wars just for nostalgia.

For anyone still reading my comment and not angrily cussing me out already... yeah, I was disappointed. It felt like they were building up something cool, and nope. Just nuke it, and it's going to be exactly like the original trilogy.
I don't mind if they did some the original trilogy did, but at least be different with it.

I don't know, maybe I missed something since I only saw it once.

I think the movie had it's issues, but here me out.

Apparently, from what I understand, there were scenes cut out of the movie that explain that Lea formed the resistance to combat the first order after the New Republic and her had conflict and couldn't agree on a course of action. She left the NR and operates with limited resources. Also an explanation that C3PO runs a network of droid spies within the first order and sacrificed his arm for another droid.

Hopefully the deleted scenes will be on the Bluray.

You can kill Han because Ford never wanted Han to live past A New Hope. God knows how much money they had to throw at him to get him to come back. How did anyone not see his demise coming?

Plus it's act one of a three part story. You never get all the answers until all the acts have played out. I'm reserving judgement until part 3 is complete. It was fun, it got SW back on track. Let's see how everything plays out.

See, cutting those scenes out of the movie hurt it then in my opinion. This wasn't explained in the movie that is why Leia left.

Heck, it's even said in one part that the Resistance fought along side and even used the NGR's fleets. I know the NGR got wiped out in the first 30 minutes for plot convenience, but before that, they had resources.

Now... deleted scenes aside, if this was never brought to face, then the movie has major holes in it. Hopefully they are answered better than this in the second movie (which I have no doubt they will be) other than, "just for convenience."

As for Han Solo dying, I saw it coming. Doesn't mean I'm still any less unhappy about it.

Don't really see where the problem is with Han dying. He would one way or the other - within an action flic I rather have it in a more memorable way than him dying off of cancer. I also think that all of the older ones should die within the next two movies (probably Leia next one but I doubt it). Think about it: Ben Kenobi died IV, Yoda V and Vader / Emperor VI. I think I'd prefer closure on the whole storyline about Luke and Leia so that the new generation has to stand on their own feet.

That being said, I agree that the storytelling was seriously lacking. If you think about it it isn't even really that complex so there is no excuse whatsoever. They just decided to invest way too many minutes on nostalgia and romancing.

Oops, my mistake - - I meant to say Force Awakens almost made as much as Furious 7 in overseas box office.

Thank-you for the correction, C DM.
Overseas, for the moment that seems to be the case, but with Star Wars still being out in theaters that will likely change.

The question I ask myself: "Why the heck do so many people watch stuff like FF7?!"
Basically just fast pasted action entertainment?

BTW, congrats to Force Awakens on it's overseas box office results - - it almost made as much as Furious 7!!!
The Force Awakens continues to inch towards catching up to Furious 7's overseas box office - it's now only $40 million behind Vin & the boys.

Worldwide it's already the #3 movie ahead of Furious 7, and domestically it's been #1 for some time not only ahead of Furious 7 but even juggernauts like Titanic and Avatar.
