I'm happy that you found The Force Awakens to be a satisfactory film.

But why do you feel the need to belittle those that don't agree with your opinion?

I found it to be a very good film. I haven't belittled anyone who disliked the film my self but tell me the quote below isn't insulting to those who liked the film? Too bad as I like Huntn's posts most of the time but if we had a downvote button I would have used it just for that remark.

Shame! Do you SWs fans who love this movie have any self respect, at all? Lol. :D

Lol, I had to read that twice because it does look a bit out of character. I'd say Huntn is poking at best - no need for a downvote button because of that. I have hardly seen a poster that is more open to other tastes and opinions than huntn :D

Does anyone here really believe that wasn't a planned marketing maneuver? Purposely leave the Rey character out of toy lines, and then let J.J. get to make a big deal about how important her character actually is to the entire series. Sell exponentially more Rey toys, all while reinforcing the nu-StarWars® brand. Profit. Seems like the obvious smart promotional play to me.

I do not believe it was a planned marketing maneuver.

Don't be thin skinned about being kidded. You see that :D ? That means I'm teasing those people who liked the film unconditionally. Everyone has their own opinion plus or minus. No opinion is correct although some opinions come with sound reasoning and others not. :D:D Please don't take the statement seriously enough to be offended by it.

There's a correlation between those who are easily offended, and those who gravitate toward slacktivism (downvoting, sharing, etc).

Personally, I love it when someone passionately loves this film, even more so without justification. It makes the argument that much more fun.

I agree. It's overly cynical to believe it's an intentional and concerted plot. The most likely answer is that people made mistakes ... as people often do.
Even I, someone who didn't enjoy The Force Awakens, thought Daisy Ridley did an awesome job portraying Rey. I can unequivocally say that she is the central character in this new trilogy. All of the promotional material and most of the reviews rightly celebrate the fact that a woman finally has the lead role in the franchise.

This was no mistake.

There's talk it will surpass Avatar's global box office take, and I thought so too before seeing tfa. However, after seeing tfa, it won't beat Avatar.
Good call.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens set to fall short of Avatar after stumbling in China

My apologies Huntn. Yea I am a bit defensive about my fave franchises: Star Trek (Prime - esp. TOS and TNG), Doctor Who (11 and now 12 are my doctors) and Star Wars (to a cerain extent ALL of it even the prequels). Bad enough explaining to non-fans but even arguments WITHIN the fanbase can be rather off-putting. I tend to get tired of justifying my liking of whatever (hell even Apple products) and annoyed when people get angry about liking something in popular culture.

Truthfully I tend not to be good at telling teasing IRL as well. I do see that now, and respect that you have a different opinion from mine.

I frankly can't understand why this conversation has gone on so long. Big corporations and product owners are rarely concerned with the most fanatic followers of their products. They are most concerned with how can I make the most money today.

Sure there are things I dislike in books, films, games, Mac, iPhone, etc but if my more purist sensitivities are offended I may hop on a forum and agree with some of the disappointed elite but invariably it is unlikely my voice will make much difference if the product continues to sell well and make the owner lots of MONEY.

TFA is full of issues, many of which have been catalogued here but the fact remains the movie is making a ton of money and the average person coming out of cineplex is thrilled with what they saw. Most don't know or care about the universe or the past stuff. I personally didn't really like EP 1-3 but do occasionally watch them with friends and grandkids et when they want to see the whole thing in order. I just try not to dwell on the things that could have been done so much better.

When seeing films like this I just go to be entertained. That way I can be just like the masses who leave their minds at the door and can say "oh, look at the pretty explosions". You can tear down most simple films for lack of continuity, actual military strategy or common sense but then you will just leave feeling like you wasted $10+ instead of feeling like -- for just a little while you escaped the mind-numbing reality just outside the theater doors.

TFA was fun and I personally like Jurassic World better and found the expanded personality of dinos to be enjoyable. The movie made a lot of money because people had a good time, saw the good dinos win and the humans we cared about got to live another day.

Lots of excitement, thrills, a few scares and a happy ending usually equals a lot of money in a lot of pockets... and sometimes more than few annoyed fans. :)

It took me quite some time to realize this, but the entire arc of SW storytelling is essentially anti-german propaganda. To see this very crude WW2 anti German rhetoric being rehashed in 2015/2016 is pretty pathetic.

It seems obvious to me that the US media will never give up on propagandizing the same themes over and over again.

Perhaps because that's a fairly generic type of theme when it comes to power and corruption and expansion and basically good and evil that was around well before Nazis or anything else? And whether or not it builds on it, what's pathetic about it?

Your assumptions are not correct at all. See:

http://scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/105998/was-the-empire-in-star-wars-inspired-by-nazi-germany

Star Wars is really a rehash of the World Wars, esp. WW2.
Hmmmm exept the rebels (and now resistance) are not only the underdogs but outnumbered and outgunned. Was hardly the case in WWII as the Allies assembled much larger forces than the Axis. Anyway "inspired by" is hardly a rehash-plus I never heard of Churchill, Roosevelt or especially Stalin taking about the Force.

Fairly generic? The bad guy troops in Star Wars are literally called stormtroopers...

LOL. George Lucas is Jewish - of course he has an axe to grind with Nazis. It's not the media as a whole, it's a personal thing. I TOTALLY understand.

Nazis and Zombies are the two bad guys you can put in any entertainment that no one gets offended about.

Make a western - Indians better be hunter/gatherers and not war like.
Make a modern movie about terrorist- they better be generic with no nationality or someone will complain.

It goes on and on.

Via StarWars.com:

"The fact that fascism inspired the look and feel of the Empire is no secret. In fact, Star Wars creator George Lucas even refers to the Imperial officers in The Empire Strikes Back as 'Nazis' while giving his commentary of the film. He specifically mentions their militaristic dress, noting, 'The Nazis are basically the same costume as we used in the first film and they are designed to be very authoritarian, very empire-like.'"

Also this scene played heavily on that theme.

In general SW was always an amalgamation of popular mainstream themes (e.g. swords n' pistols), death star = nuclear bomb etc.

Feel free to clarify yourself.
That WWII had many undertones of many other conquests/conflicts throughout history. And while Star Wars borrowed pieces of it the main undertones and themes weren't unique to it. More importantly was the part of why that would even really matter and more specifically what is so pathetic about it, as that seemed to be the bigger point that the poster I was replying to was trying to get across.

Thank you!
Now back to the main topic.
How many times did you go and see it? I've still not got round to my second time yet as life has been getting in the way.
It's still showing at our local cinema though so maybe this week sometime.
