Yeah, kind of sucks when an American site is reporting on an American coffee company releasing an app for an American made phone then says "nationwide". As much of a global citizen that I am, I am sick of you whining Brits always complaining about this. Get over it already! Maybe if your country actually contributed anything worthwhile globally, then they can state "nationwide" too and the rest of the world could be just as jealous...

American made phone? Mine says "Assembled in China" on the back.

Really, so now you are going to play ignorant? Apple is an American company. They design their phones in California. That was my point and you know it. Why don't you grow up and take the truth (you are the one who started this with the whining of "nationwide".)

Why exactly is this useful?

I think this would be extremely useful for me, I would like the ability to manage my starbucks account remotely and be able to scan at the counter reward coupons that I do not have the time to print nor the memory to do so.
Panty hose are useful to me, put i am not gonna question why they are useful to others. Point is, speak for yourself.

I tried to use this today, but it's only available at certain locations.

The lowest increment I could put on my card was $25.

I think I'll spend the next year getting my coffee from the FairTrade Cafe.

Not cool, Starbucks, not cool.

I have these pictures in my head of already-snooty-enough-as-it-is Starbucks patrons feeling even more elite because they are paying via iPhone. It makes me want to make a mock-commercial where some fool performs payment via iPhone, and suddenly the environment turns pink, the patron turns black silhouette, and the iPhone, headphones and coffee cup all remain white. He jumps around dancing to the cacophony of a new hipster tune with both hands full of coffee and iPhone goodness.
Cut to :apple:.
Overplay on all networks.
????
Profit

Kind of cool, but i would be really worried if my phone got stolen especially if this form of payment catches on.

You could chase down the thief from Starbucks to shining Starbucks, using both GPS and eReceipts, until you finally catch them, knock their scalding-hot coffee into their own face, and retrieve your iPhone unharmed!

Suddenly, a shiny knight gallops in upon a white cheval, and scoops up our maiden in a single, smooth, Starbucks-sipping swipe!

Lock Boxx

There has to be security issues with NFC et al. I see hackers can now open your car door - and with cars that have push buttons instead of keys they can steal the entire car. Why can't that Starbux$ hipster hack a smart credit card or, soon enough your phone?

I think someone had too much coffee. That's a coffee cup!

Haha, thanks. Yeah, that was my first impression of that screenshot for the app though. I have no idea what the app does. I thought they should make it with a big button that says "Pay" or "order a coffee" or something.

I don't want to scan anything - I just want to get a coffee and have my phone pay for it.

Actually that Starbucks is pretty good stuff - very "Robusto" like a good coffee should be.

I tried out this morning and worked out flawlessly. Meanwhile, you can put US$10 on the card as minimum.

I used it last night and it was kind of neat. The cashier said I was her first customer to use it.
With the iPhone:
1. Take iPhone out of case (belt holster)
2. Press home key to turn on.
3. Slide to unlock.
4. Scroll to screen that has the app.
5. Press the app.
6. Press touch to pay.
7. Hand iPhone to cashier to scan.
8. Place iPhone back into holster.

With Starbucks card
1. Take out card case.
2. Take out card.
3. Hand card to cashier.
4. Put card back into card case.
5. Put card case back into pocket.
Hmmmmm. It's easier and faster to use the card but it's a cool feature that I'll continue to use, at least for a while.:)

^^^^Meh, with the lineups that are typical at Starbucks, I'll have the Touch-To-Pay screen ready to go when I get to the front of the line.:p

Exactly! and by the time I get to the line to pay the barista will already have my drink ready!:D I should be embarrased to admit that they know me and start making my drink as soon as I walk in
